Root [OUTDATED] Root 2.2.1 and get Data WORKING!!!

Ok so I did that completely uninstalled and deleted everything Java. Downloaded everything fresh ran Ccleaner let it do its thing. reinstalled Java, and Java jdk, added it to the "Path" and ran SDK as Administrator and I am still getting the error that Java isnt in my "Path" and to "please add Java to Path" this is the fourth time I've done this four times now. I have no clue why I cant get it to run properly....

Are you using a colon or semi-colon in your path? Sometimes it's something simple like that.

Yeah I have triple checked the spelling of what I needed to add. Still hasnt worked....

Got Java to run did a last ditch install in which I didnt let the jre part of Java install now it runs right.

Will this also work on a phone that has been upgraded to 2.2.1 by LG update?
At what point in the procedure do you get signal back and can dial?
Per the previous question, is loading the custom recovery absolutely necessary or can that step be skipped and still have a working, rooted phone?
What, if any, are the differences between the OS loaded in this procedure, and the stock 2.2.1 besides root access?
I think I know one feature enabled in 2.2.1 is the ability of the phone to be recognized as USB storage on a computer without the LG drivers loaded. Another update to 2.2.1 is to fix the security hole used by z4root to root the phone, which could be used by other applications maliciously. What other improvements are in 2.2.1?

ok so the part for android sdk is this right?? ive checked off all these. BTW This looks NOTHING like the video so idk..

it's ok disregard basically im rooted n rocking after a reboot and install of the final custom recovery.

OK so I was able to get these steps done no problem

it's rooted n tooting. now to delete bloatware, and change the startup logo and stupid hello hello jingle

I would just like to say thanks for this tutorial. I had some problems gaining root access, but that was mostly do to user error. worked great for me and will recommend this to all my friends. THANKS A BUNCH!!!

does a person need to copy the contact list. Will this info be lost in the root process?
I would say yes, but its simple to make a backup of your contact list and put on the sd card.
On the contact page press menu then More, it will say Import/Export. Just Export to your sd card.

If you're syncing your contacts with gmail then you don't need to do anything. They will show up after gmail syncs the first time.

One thing you should know:
This is not necessary to know if you already activated your phone and you never change your service. But just in case you need to activate (or re-activate) your phone at some time in the future...

Normally when they activate the phone, they dial ##626* and then punch in some passcode so they can program the phone. But in this rom, the passcode has been set to 000000.

I almost got in trouble. I rooted my phone before it was activated, and it took like an hour in the store, with the guy punching in the passcode over and over, calling the manager, calling tech support. Tech support saying "the phone's been flashed." And I'm saying, "No, I bought it directly from metropcs.com, delivered directly to me." And it was going nowhere, and I was peeing my pants. But then the guy just randomly tried punching in all 0's for the passcode, and it worked.

Ok, im new at this but i got everything to work, my phone is rooted and i installed the rom.
however i still dont have service can someone please help me?

I did the all instructions but it still 0% for more than 1 hour and 40 minutes, finally i did tried to do restart then it show now UNKNOWN model name, what to do now please?

CRAP! I'm stuck here:

""Run LGNTPS from your desktop shortcut. Make sure the program is set to Provision option and under Provision should be Upgrade. Where it says bin File click on the folder and look for MS690ZV4.bin that should be on your C:\ drive and select it.""

When I run LGNTPS I can't click on the "Folder". Almost nothing is clickable. What have I done wrong?

Pete

SDK Manager.exe won't run anymore.
I've already rooted my phone and was going to do another but I cannot get this to run again.

I even deleted all the files located in C:\android-sdk-windows, downloaded a fresh copy and tried that, but nothing doing.

I can see SDK Manager.exe, the associated command prompt and java.exe loading in Process Explorer but they don't stay loaded long.

I just download the installer from Android SDK, installed it in the same folder but it still fails to stay running.

What am I missing here?
It's not AV related as I had that running the first time I installed it. Just to be sure, I disabled AV but still no SDK love.

Thank you

Uhh hemm. I uh, forgot one small detail.
I FREAKING FORGOT to REMOVE the ;c:\android-sdk-windows\tools;c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools from my System Variables after rooting the FIRST PHONE!

All is fine now, nothing to see here, move along. :D

CDMA workshop should not be needed.
download the app from the market place called MEID Converter. You enter the phones MEID/IMEID and it will calculate the SPC for MetroPCS.

Ok so I am having an issue that I haven't seen anyone else have through the forum posts, hoping someone can help. Everything goes smoothly up until the point of upgrading through lgnpst, when I click start and enter in my 6 digit code that I get from cdma workshop, is starts the process after about 30-45 seconds I get this message:

The phone was unplugged or has lost the connection with PC.
Please follow the steps below to prevent any loss of information on the phone.
1. Unplug the phone if still connected.
2. Power cycle the phone and wait until the phone wakes up.
3. Plug the phone back into PC.
4. Press OK to continue the upgrade.................................

I have rebooted and and restarted the programs many times issue still occurs after about 30-45 sec it keeps saying this no matter what I do. I thought it may be an issue with the display energy saving timeout so I set that to 30 minutes, usb debugging is on correctly, I also enabled the stay awake when plugged in feature to make sure phone wasn't going to sleep. I then thought that maybe the usb port on my pc was bad so I have tried 5 different usb ports, same issue, I also thought that since my phone was 99% charged that maybe once it was hitting 100% charge it was disabling the usb for a quick second so I drained the battery to about 80% same issue. I have followed the root instructions to a T, any ideas???? Thanks in advance.

I have tried clicking ok many times and 30-45 secs it does the same message until I close the program. I have tried a couple different usb cables and different usb ports on my pc, same issue, and the phone is on a hard flat surface (top of my desktop, not moving at all). I checked usb drivers they look fine. Any ideas? Also to note while it's plugged in it charges consistently without any issues so I dont think its a bad or sensitive usb port on the phone itself but who knows?

Any time anyone wants to respond is fine... :)

Make sure you have installed the correct USB drivers for YOUR phone, even if you think you've installed the correct drivers, it wouldn't hurt to install them again.
Make sure your AV is off during the operation. I can see where an AV scanning of Removable Media could stop the upgrade process.

Nevermind...this method completely screwed my phone, now its locked in the hard reset and can't do anything :\

Okay I followed this method and rooted the phone, loaded the rom and everything fine.. but somehow the ESN/MEID is set to all zeros now.

The phone has signal bars, but says no network connection, can't get data to work, can't make calls. Have tried repeating the entire process multiple times. I don't know what to do. Is there a way to reset this or manually set it up?? I would even be fine with giving up root and going back to an out of the box state just to get my damn phone to work. Seriously need some help as what to try next.

Can I use QPST to fix this problem??

when I do ##626* it reads:

MEID:
a000000000000000

(p)ESN:
0000000
