Pandora on the EVO

I must say that this latest version of Pandora seems quite robust compared to the last one. I haven't experienced any skips intra-song since I've upgraded.

however, it's still a little buggy. I have had a couple of inter-song skips. What I mean by this is...after a song finishes, and I see what the next loaded song will be, it will sometimes skip that song, and moves on before even playing it.

That being said, it is MUCH faster in recovering from any issues. In the past, a song skip would sometimes take more than 90 seconds for the next song to play...sometimes, the next song wouldn't even play...I'd eventually get a notification stating that it cannot connect to Pandora...which would make me close the app, and relaunch. I can't recall any annoying delays since the update.

So far, I am pleased with this latest version. If they keep this up, I may end up buying a year's worth of commercial-free, unlimited skipping Pandora for just $36/year. I'm not buying anything yet, but I feel in 2011, their app will be very solid.
 
thanks Early. on a side note..if anyone experiences any issues after the fixes let me know. I am limited to testing on just my phone and configuration and I want to make sure and add any other possible errors that might arise.

still rocking the fixes ...days now with no skips...and Pandora sounds..well like music to my ears :P
 
I tried the fix and it didn't take for me. I'm rooted and running MikFroyo.

I really, really, really wish streaming audio could get fixed on Android.

get with me through pm...there is no reason why this shouldn't have worked on any phone...unless you have a bad internet connection...and even then it doesn't skip any more...but pauses for an extended amount of time.

I looked over the instructions again and I think I missed a step. Also, I'm using MikFroyo, which has the Hulu app, so I don't know if I should be looking at a different ROM...?

you need to either edit your build prop or wait for mikfroyo 4.6

I talked to mik about this and he said for 4.6 he isn't going to include mods and themes on the base rom. it will all be add on flashable zips.
 
no you are fine even if you have the hulu app.

you need to mount the system to write mode...you are in read only

drew you might mention to mik the multiple benefits of incorporating wipes in the flash script of the rom... for clean installs ...it happens with all of the roms but his seem to be the worst.... when you flash it there is a good chance of things not writing to the system like they should. I absolutely love his roms, but it's not uncommon for me to have to do a wipe and flash several times before everything "sticks"

virus runs a wipe script ...twice lol then it writes all of the system info ...one of the cleanest installs I have ever had was his current infection rc1 rom.

just if you happen to talk to him again :D

Pandora ver 1.5.4

I just used it on a 900 mile drive and I'm impressed with how well it works.
Only lost connection once, and skipped a song maybe 3 or 4 times. Darn good considering varying conditions over that distance.

Now my question.
Is there a way to edit or create new stations in Pandora from the phone?
I tried browsing to pandora.com but got a message saying that pandora is not compatible with mobile browsers, and to log in on a PC.

mentioned it, got no response...

I looked at what is in the virus rom and he is just auto flashing calkulin's format all zip. so I guess there is always the manual way :P

caulkin's doesn't always work for some reason

i now flash it twice, wipe all manually, then flash rom..

i got tired of finding bits and pieces of the previous rom
 
I just downloaded Pandora for the first time ever. Is there anything I should know? I read a couple of posts that say people have some issues with it. Should I be worried it will mess up my phone?
 
Okay so after using this pandora app for over 2 hours, I will say it is nice. I like that i get mostly good music. The bad thing is that i do not like the 6 skip limitation and this app drains my batter faster than anything i have seen before. I use Rhapsody and yes you have to pay but I think it lasts a lot longer with batter life and the quality is a lot better.

Does anyone else have problems with pandora running down the battery or is this just happening to me?

It's so you'll pay $36/yr for the premium service. From what I've heard, you get unlimited skipping, and no ads if you pay for the service.

If you run into a skip limit, change the station, and you'll get 6 more.
Rinse and repeat.
 
yup..overcoming the skip limit is super easy that way.

as for quality...make sure you have it set to high (menu.settings)

also see my pandora fix thread in my sig. there may be something in there you can benefit from though on a new phone all you should have to do is remove the proxy settings and you should see an improvement in sound quality.

^^ after you have used your station for a few weeks using the thumbs down and thumbs up you won't have to skip nearly as much. and yes pandora has always been known to be a battery killer. when your done don't just back out of the app. hit menu-quit. also the skip limit has nothing to do with the evo or even the app.



as for me, I have stagefright disabled and the sound is good. I did have a few skips today, yet they felt different. a couple of times a song stopped and then an ad came up, the song wasn't finished. and then a one or two more regular skips to the next song, tho it reloaded so fast I can't really complain. I would call these acceptable and not really the same as before. I didn't run any logs so I'm not sure if it was an error or not.

As for battery drain...poppycock. I listen to pandora 8+hours a day. Very minimal drain maybe 10% every 6-8 hours. Make sure you are turning the screen off.

Drew I am noticing that our phones like to jump from tower to tower frequently. The tower jumps line up with pauses and skips so far. From what I can tell there is no way to overcome this though pandora with the fixed settings handles it very well. I think the buffer on stagefright media is too low...and is why the issue is worse on stock phones.

As a general rule, the signature will only show in your first post on that page of the thread. I have seen it behave differently, however...:confused:

EDIT: After a quick search, it appears that if you are the thread starter, then your signature will appear in all posts in that thread.
