Root Partitioning Questions

I have a lot of questions tonight, lol.

I want to partition my SD card so I can try new ROMs that need them (primarily the Express 3.0 ROM that was just ported). I use my phone as my music player (since I sold my iPod almost a year ago) and I have about 2.5 gigs of music on my phone.

I want to partition the SD card so I can have room for my music and whatever apps that need to be on the card.

Another question I have is if I have my SD card partitioned, what happens when I go back to another nand that wasn't partitioned?

Well the music doesnt need to go on the internal petition, so make sure your card Is big enough to allow for that.

As far as restoring a prior nand, it may recognize it and put everything on the SD card, or you may have to run an a2sd reinstall. Really shouldn't be a big deal getting it to recognize it

it will depend on what size card you have and what class card you have. the higher the class the better.

if your have a sd ext setup for 1-2gigs, you should have plenty of room for your music as long as your card is big enough. personally i use google music and do not have the need to put my music on my card.

it will depend on the rom that you nandroid back to. if the rom has a2sd built in they should move automatically. if not like rxpert says you can always command the apps to the card.

A couple of things to remember

1. This is the most important. Backup your Card Before doing anything. Partitioning the card will wipe everything off of it.

2. You will want your partition big enough to hold the apps, and dalvic cache. You also may wish to port over your data/data folder.

I'm with ocean on the google music. I can access my music on my devices. I don't have to sync things and end up with ten copies of the same thing.

Last thing to note. Your SDEXT partition will not be accessible to you on Windows. Not that you need access. I just find it easier to backup the card on the computer that way if I have any card issues I should be able to put the new card in partition it and then copy all my stuff back over to it. boot up rom and it should be as nothing ever happend.

Thanks! I'll most likely partition only when I get a 16 gig or 32 gig higher class card. Google Music is okay but I don't want streaming data (uses too much battery when I don't need it too) when I can be on the road on airplane mode and listen to music. And there is is no hiccup if the data connection became poor

To piggy back on this topic, do you need to partition before you flash every new rom or just the initial?
