Root Partitions : A2SD and Rom Use

marsui

Newbie
I recently rooted with CM7 and had partitioned my SDcard prior to install and I believe Apps2SD (CM) is already part of this ROM.

Here is how I partitioned:
swap: 32
ext3: 2048

If I set apps to default install to SD card in CM7, does it know to use the ext3 partition?

What about if I move the app to SD card in CM7 (by using Manage Applications) does it also know to use the ext3 partition?

I don't know what the ext3 partition gets mounted as so I'm having a hard time finding it using file manager - how can I verify what is in that ext3 partition?

Thanks

You will need terminial emulator from the market. I havent used the Cm7 a2sd but have used dt's a2sd. As far as I know you need to run the install command to install your apps over to the sd partition and yes it will pic up the partition automatically. You also may find every now and then you need to run the reinstall to move other apps you downloaded and that did not get moved automatically. The swap is really not needed as the kernels do not support it as of yet.

don't use to manage applications apps2sd function that is not the same thing.

which file manager are you using? In Windows you will not be able to access the ext3 drive as windows does not support Linux File Systems. My advice here is to not bother this drive as it is meant really only for the apps and thier data. Put dalvic cache over is the only thing I would recommend. If your not sure about these file systems you can do damage and have to reflash / repartition. Let the ROM worry about that and you concentrate on having fun with your phone.

FYI - CM a2sd isn't supported by terminal commands like the DarkTremors version - it's all automatic (i.e. no user intervention).

I was trying ES file explorer but the one that comes with CM7 is able to view the internal memory as well.

If I go to about in that file manager it says

File Manager 1.1.4. I think its made by OpenIntents (OI).

@Cap - so does it know to use the ext3 partition or is it using the rest of my SD card?

If you have an EXT partition, it should be putting the apps there by default.

It doesn't look like it is. I opened terminal, granted SU and navigated to /sd-ext.

I did an LS and there was only one folder called lost+found

Then again, I'm not even sure that /sd-ext is the ext partition

I'm not sure how CM mounts it, but the EXT partition is usually mounted at /system/sd. You should be able to use any file explorer that has root access to navigate there and see if there are any apps.
