i moved you to the rooting section.

what PC36IMG file do you need? that file is a generic file name as your phone is programmed to search for that file name when in the bootloader. the file can be used for all sorts of things like changing the splashscreen, changing recoveries, radios, and even flashing a rom (only sprint lover's), as well as turning the phone's security back on (s-on) and flashing a stock recovery and stock rom.

so we need a little more info on what you are looking for.

That is good information. I had just a quick question though for a friend of mine who was thinking about rooting and setting his Sprint HTC EVO 4G to S-OFF.

He was under the impression that once you were S-OFF, you could flash a PC36IMG file and it would never set you back to S-ON, even if it updated you to the latest HBOOT version that is available today. He thought it required a tool like UnrEVOked to be flashed in HBOOT to truly set the handset back to S-ON. I pretty much thought that too and have never been set back to S-ON by flashing a PC36IMG file. I guess he saw this post and it worried him and now he is hesitating.

well with unrevoked they created an unrevoked s-on tool that you flash first t get s-on and use the PC36IMG file to get you back to stock with rom and recovery.

with revolutionary there is no s-on tool unfortunately. you need to use the ruu to get s-on and also to return the phone back to stock. it is a pretty easy process.

Thank you for your insight. I think my friend can proceed with no worries now.

I used Revolutionary on my Sprint HTC EVO 3D and I believe it is permanently NAND unlocked, or S-OFF, by that method even if I flash an RUU and HBOOT gets updated. It looks like S-OFF is reversible with that method for the Sprint HTC EVO 4G though, as you mentioned.
