The North East of England were asked if they wanted an 'assembly' and they said 'no'.

I used the term 'state' as in something that's made up of counties but not the entire nation - not as a nation state like Luxembourg, or Monaco etc. I don't really see England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as separate 'countries' though that is how they are referred to. I'm British - I never refer to myself as English though that is what I am.

Us Northern Irish aren't British though

If I'm in a foreign country, I find people like me a lot more if I say I'm from Ireland as opposed to the UK ^_^

Alex Salmond (Until I saw it written down I thought he was Alex Hammond! ) has himself pointed out that the only UK state without its own legislature is England. I'm not sure that we need one.

I disagree. I also switched to Android from Symbian and found Android much easier to use than Symbian for many things.
