Performance Help!

im running cm6.1 nightly build #159, w/ uncapped kernel #43, & my max cpu feq is 750mhz w/ OC widget.

My highest MFLOP score ive ever gotten was 5.28 (was w/ a dif kernel, #14 i think), & it always takes 15+ seconds to get my MFLOP score, when ive seen others get their scores in very few seconds.

My highest Quadrant score ive ever gotten was 478, now im getting scores inbetween 420-450.

Now i know some other ppls hero can go to 768mhz, but it seems like my scores are very low compared to other w/ similar setup,,, so my ? is,

Is there anything i can do to improve my phones speed & performance, would using setcpu vs oc widget help?

Oh, i also use autokiller set @ optimum, except visible app is set @ 24, to match my VM heap, which is set to 24. I also have JIT enabled. would enabling compcache help any?

please help me boost my phones speed & performance, battery life is not super important to me b/c i always have a way to charge

Your setup is similar to mine. I am using setcpu though. I oc at 768 on the stock cm6 kernal. Do you use cache cleaner? It seems to keep me pretty speedy. Maybe you could downgrade a bit. I've learned less is more...with my hero at least.

If all you want is speed and performance then I would go aospMod 0.9.9.2

All of these settings are common and for the most part, CM6 performance has gone down a little. Those quadrant and linpack scores are average now with how you have everything set up

If all you want is speed and performance then I would go aospMod 0.9.9.2
this rom is faster than cm6?? i've been late with the info on android lately :p

you're not using cm6 anymore andy? using aosp instead?

Aosp is faster.....Woot - If you want really fast & even better Quadrant scores you can enable JIT - If you need help let me know (not just a click like it is on Cm6

Yes, I would say aosp is faster

I flash too many lately to have a daily rom but I usually stay on aosp the longest;)

I just went back to the current stable after getting some lag from the nightlies, and flashed the latest stable kernel from deca. My phone flies at 768!

i tried aosp 0.9.9.7 w/ JIT enabled, uncapped #43, OC'd to 750mhz, w/ autokiller on optimum, (exact same setup as cm6.1), & aosp was WAY WAY slower for me, my mflop score was 2.98, & my quadrant score was 389.

with cm6.1, im getting mflop of 5.28, & quadrant scores around 450, think i got 478 1 time.

cm6.1 seems to run smoother/faster on my phone vs aosp, though aosp is much smaller than cm6.1, but after i flash firerats partition, i go from 160mb of memory to 300+mb of memory, so IMHO, cm6.1 stable is better, but i do think it can be phone dependent, b/c some of us can go to 768mhz, & some can only go to 710mhz.

cant wait for CM7

I doubt your mflop score was 2.98 if jit was enabled, imo. With jit enabled, most phones should be in the high 4's, low 5's.

Why wait for CM7, GB is already here;)

OK...few things - AOSP does't need autokiller. Runs WAY better without.
Stock AoSP Kernal works best -
Flash the most Recent AOSP rom and enable JIT yourself.
OC'd to 750....how? 710- 748 - 768

With a clean Cache I am Consistently above 500 in my quad scores.

Your mistake is trying to tweak aosp too much....doesn't need tweaking.:rolleyes:

I totally agree here. You will technically get worse Quadrant scores if you use an automatic task killer because it is constantly monitoring in the background and thus using up CPU cycles.

You CAN use a task killer to end all of the "currently running" apps before running Quadrant though and it may yield a better result. But having it on in the background will hinder your score, rather than help it.

im serious, i wouldnt lie, i went to the file "build.prop" & enabled JIT, & i couldnt get a mflop over 3.5, most were in the high 2's, very low 3's.

GB is here, but in an unstable form, the cm7 is almost stable (stable enough for shits & giggles) on some phone models vs the aosp GB rom, that has lots of stuff not working, like data, wifi, & other stuff.

IIRC, the only things not working on the cm7 is the camcorder, & a few other things that are not as important as data, wifi, etc.

UNLESS im missing something on GB

AOSP is almost stable on GB -
Not working Accelerometer (landscape)
Camera -
G-mail app -
Using it as my daily now.

What did you do when you enabled JIT.....(thought it was already enabled on .9.7......)

no, jit is not from what i was told/read. here http://androidforums.com/1979778-post1.html & here xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM][GPL][STABLE] aospMod v0.9.9.2 | AOSP 2.2.1 (Froyo) [12/10/2010]

i thought this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782320&page=231 was 2.2.1, thats what the thread title says, am i missing something, can i have links please, thanks.

Do you have a link for the Hero CM7? I tried to flash the GSM CM7 but it was a no go!

Yes that Rom -

JIT is not enabled in .9.9.2 - the one you linked - but it is in .9.7 the one you said you used in your first post.

3rd link...not sure what you are trying to say.

not looking to get into a pissing match over a piece of software with you pal.
Im sorry you aren't having the excellent results the rest of us are having on AOSP.
Just ran a quad....haven't done it in awhile...it does seem to have slipped 497....

my bad, i tried aosp .0.9.9.2, not.9.7, can you link me to .9.7, i cant find it, or are they on a newer version now, like .9.8, or .9.9?

oh, im not either, im just trying to figure out why im getting bad results w/ aosp, & now i know, b/c i was using .0.9.9.2, not .9.7

The difference between .9.7 and 0.9.9.2 is stability and .9.7 has jit enabled and .9.9.2 does not have jit enabled. I believe 0.9.9.2 could be the final release. aosp is now working on GB, so....

somebody on here said that .9.7 is the GB, I know he has that unstable GB release, now im getting confused, go read up some posts & youll see what im talking about

First of all 9.7 is not GB, and why should he go read up some post, he didn't tell you that, if you want Andy to read a post, then post the link as I am sure he will IMO

he said aosp gb is almost stable in .9.7., unless i missed something

anyway, can i get a link to the latest version of aosp (froyo) to try to flash again, i can only find .9.9.2.

and once i flash aosp, whats the best configuration i should use, ie: kernel, oc widget/setcpu, autokiller, no autokiller, etc...

im just like the rest of yall, i just want the best performance out of my hero, & im very sorry if i ever came accross as trying to start anything, im not, im using the thanks button

thanks again everybody, i appreciate the help!!!!:D

unless you are looking for GB which is [ROM][GPL][UNSTABLE] aospGBMod ALPHA | AOSP 2.3.1 (Gingerbread)

FYI I still do not see in the link you posted where Andy referenced 9.7 being GB ??? I stink you are miss ready, after the post all he said was that AOSP was working on GB and that 9.9.2 would be the final release IHO for Froyo

What did you do when you enabled JIT.....(thought it was already enabled on .9.7......),,

so i thought he meant that .9.7 was the almost stable version of GB, of the updated version of .9.9.2, but i realize now that some of this is a type-o, & miscommunication, sorry about that, thats my bad.

can you give me a correct setup for .9.9.2, as in kernel, setcpu, autokiller, what do i need or dont need.

also what i dont understand, is theres a post in the .9.9.2 thread that says to enable JIT in aosp is not like cm6, where its just a few clicks, if you need help, ill tell you how or something along those lines, but then he says JIT is already enabled in .9.7, which im guess hes referring to .9.9.2.

idk, i guess i got lost somewhere in this conversation, but thanks for clearing things up, & hope you can led me in the correct place to get the most out of aosp, & what i need or dont need to get the most out of it.
