PewPew beta

Jyaif

Newbie
Hi there,
I am in the process of finishing a game called PewPew. It's similar to Geometry Wars. The game was pretty successful on the App Store, I hope it will do well on the Android Market.

Here's a screenshot to get an idea of how it looks like:

The graphics may be simple, but the animations are extremely fluid.

And here's a video of the iphone version of the game:

Since I only tested on my Nexus One, I need feedback! Here's the APK: https://sites.google.com/site/jfgeyelin/box/PewPew.apk?attredirects=0&d=1

Thanks everyone!

Ooh exclusive stuff. I approve.

EDIT: Played it and LOVED it. Great smooth animations, good gameplay and you can even replay highscores? Niceee

Exclusive stuff indeed ;-)
First good news: since you can run it, I apparently did not mess up the certification of the apk :)

game played great on my phone, but its busy here at work so I didnt give it a lot of time. but from what i played really smooth, no lag and great idea. controls are a little tricky to adjust too but its nice. (is there an accelerometer option)

installed on my droid x, was able to play the tutorial, but now whenever i open the game, all i get is a black screen

edit: the only issue i am having is that if i run the game and quit, i have to go into applications and force stop the game in order to play it again. but when i was playing it, it was very smooth, no lag, and pretty cool. hopefully, you can fix some of these issues because i really like this game.

Hey one suggestion:
Could you have an option to switch the control sticks to down left and top right? Thanks!

Edit: there seems to be a pewpew 2 for iPhone, are we getting that?

Great, apparently it's working on all devices.

This on the other hand is terrible news! PewPew is supposed to correctly handle task switching. What Android version are you using?

so far it played really smooth on my Incredible it feels just like it played on my i*od touch
Exactly what I wanted to hear :)

Duly noted, and I am implementing that option right now. It is going to have to be in a preference menu though.
Yes PewPew 2 is coming, but for now I am focusing on PewPew 1. And PewPew 1 will be free, unlike PewPew 2.

Thank you all for testing PewPew.

i am running the newest 2.2.1 OTA version (2.3.340 system version). the game plays perfectly. its just when i close out of it, i cant get back into it with out going into settings and force stopping it manually.

I understand, and it's a pretty big annoyance. Does anybody else has this problem?

I can confirm that this happens on my Dinc. If I exit out using the Back button, then re-start it, I just get a blank screen. I have to manually kill the process before it'll startup again properly.

Other than that, it seems to work flawlessly for me.

Oh, if you press the back button! Ok, great I can reproduce the problem on my Nexus One.

Does anyone have a problem when pressing the home button ?

Works as it should using the Home button. It returns to where you left off when you re-open it.

I tend to use the Back button more often though, as I expect it to close entirely. Rarely do I wish my games to stay in the background when I'm not playing it.

sorry, i forgot to clarify that this happens when i press the BACK button. i can confirm that pressing home does work and brings me back to the game, but i too wish that the back button would close out the game and not stay in the background

I loved playing this game on my iPod Touch, so I'll give this a whirl on my Samsung Fascinate. Thanks for letting us in the beta, and I'll report back about how I feel about this game. :)

EDIT: It runs fantastic and looks even better than it did on my 3rd Gen Touch. The absence of sound I assume is because its a beta? Also, like No_u mentioned, I'd like both of the virtual sticks to be at the bottom, I'm used to playing that way on most games with dual virtual sticks.

And I do indeed have the back button problem too, but something else that I noticed that I don't see mentioned is that the back button automatically takes you out of the game, no matter where you are. I'm used to the back button only taking you out of the game if you're at the main menu, otherwise it just takes you back a menu.

One last thing, there seems to be a random lag every once in awhile in the menus between the button press and the switch to the next screen. Dunno if there's anything you can do about it or if it's just my device.

Other than these gripes, great port!

Nevermind. Wrong app.
Got the pew pew button from the market. That is pretty lame ;)

Got the real .apk. Get the same Droid X problem. Plays once. If you get out and try to go back in...black screen. But it did work well that one time :)

Ok, understood. I am actually an android newbie, so I never use the back button (I always "quit" apps with the home button...).
Apparently the performances are good, so I am going to improve the graphics a bit, add music, add online scores/replays, and then I am going to try to add sound effects.

even an exit button would be nice...

as far as performance goes, i can say that on a droid x, it runs very fast...i too would also like both joysticks on the bottom. i have big hands so i need to see all the screen i can get!!!!

by the way, i love geometry wars for the xbox360, so this game just fits right in!

I forgot to explain that the reason joysticks are on opposite corners is because of an hardware limitation on several Android phones (such as the Nexus One) where multitouch is not completely supported.
I am working on detecting if there's true multitouch, to put the joysticks on the bottom.

My Desire has the same problem, but I would like to have the sticks on the bottom left and top right if possible.
Not two sticks down

Maybe make the joystick placements user definable?
