Root Phone randomly reboots with ROMS

Will try fix permissions and will see if that helps.

Yeah, I'm using Classic. But unfortunately I only have four governor options with this kernel and none of them you listed. Should I try Anthrax again instead? I think I recall that one having more governor options.

You can try anthrax again, or underworld.
With underworld there are a few versions you can try with and without SBC, and HAVs. They are all in the OP of the underworld thread over on xda forums

You might want to fix permission after clearing cache and dalvik too. That should be in the 'other' menu.

Hmm, it doesn't look like I have that option. But I did see it under the MikG system tweaks and have run it.

Try intellidemand, or ondemandx, if there. SmartassV2 is better than the original. Also what io scheduler you using? sio is usually reliable.

I don't have any of those as options, even under Anthrax. I did have some of those under Underworld, but the kernel ran really slow. It sounds like there are other versions too, so I'll try one of those if that kernel is more "customizable".

Just confirming this is the correct link:

I was thinking the uw-v08-nosbc.zip or uw-v08-sbc.zip versions as those are HAVS and it sounds like being able to control the voltage may help. The SBC one ran pretty choppy and slow when I tried it earlier, even on a performance governor. I can try it again though if maybe I was doing something wrong.

Thanks.

What ext you running, ext3?
What recovery you got as well? RA, SmelkusMOD, CWM?

I think more so with underworld, you gotta give it a bit of time at the start to 'settle'.
Switch to SmartassV2 and SIO scheduler to start with.
Increase the min and max voltages by 50
set your min cpu to min 245-max 768
And give it a few days running on the kernel.

Yeah, ext3 with partition. I'm on RA. I'll try those settings and see how they handle. Will report back in a couple days. :-)

The Underworld kernel is unfortunately still painfully slow and choppy. Almost everything has a delay. Is there another setting I should try? Otherwise I think I'm going to try another kernel. I'll just need to figure out which one.

You mean it's laggy even with those settings?

How about ondemand with bfq?
Min 245 max 998?

Yep, extremely laggy with both. I decided to try the ChopSuey kernel and it runs well, but again, has an overheating issue when I try playing any games. It did that earlier today when my daughter was playing and got stuck in a boot loop. So I pulled the battery and everything then booted up fine.

Someone had said that I can still change voltage with any kernel, but I haven't seen the option in SetCPU or IncrediControl for other kernels. Any other ideas before I just go out and buy a new phone? Hopefully it's my HTC EVO that has something wrong with it vs. having hacked it. I really like the flexibility that rooting allows.

yeah its not becuase you are rooting that is cuasing this. on my og evo, i had a very similar problem with random reboots. it would get very hot and then reboot. it usually occurred when i played games, use gps, or anything that would need a lot of juice to run. it tried other roms and kernels and i still had the issue. i even unrooted it and it still did the same thing. so i took it in to sprint and showed them my problem and they gave me a refurbished phone. now i do not have any issues with it what so ever.

so i'm pretty sure that it might be your phone.

Thanks, I appreciate hearing of your similar experience. The phone's not unusable, but just annoying that I can't play games well. I'll have to see where I want to go from here. I don't have insurance on the phone anymore as it was getting close to the contract renew date, but I'm past that point now. I wonder if Black Friday will have any phone deals.
