Root Phone stucko on "4G" white screen

The more advanced way of interacting with a unix/linux based system :p. Just install this:

Android Terminal Emulator - Android app on AppBrain

It's just the command line. By typing "su", you are giving yourself superuser permissions. As is the standard, when you have root from a command line, you get the # prompt. It's a very quick way of determining if you have root or not. Once you've done that, close it right away if you don't know what you're doing ;).

You can google all kinds of guides on how to use the command line in linux if you're not familiar.

hmm so what is one thing someone can do with this terminal emulator besides finding out if you have root?

ok same thing is happening to me. I had my phone plugged into my laptop like I always do charging, and i heard it vibrate and cut off and then again then i hopped up to look at it and it was stuck on that white screen, i did a batt pull and unplugged it. now i trying plugging it up again it makes a sound like its plugged in to the computer but no light comes on, i tried the wall and same thing,...NOTHING. I have not done anything to my phone in a long while , like a month or so, so what in the hell is going on .. going to cry shortly

Is your phone rooted as well? Sounds like a different problem/cause. Maybe it overheated. Leave it off for a bit, then try again. If you have root, can you get to hboot?

EDIT: Yeah, pending your answers, just go through the same steps.

Just about anything. There's far more to linux than a gui ;). Go ahead and look up some guides and tutorials on the linux command line. With busybox (which I assume you have), you get all kinds of command line utilities common to a desktop/server installation. As I may or may not have mentioned before, be careful playing around in the terminal with su. It's pretty easy to break things.

so i downloaded, typed in "su" and nothing happened. I got brave and hit enter and i got the superuser access warning, i hit allow, and got a pound sign.

rooted correct? :D

Lol, sorry, I failed to mention you have to hit enter after typing each command. My bad :p. Yes, you're rooted. Based on everything you've said so far, I didn't doubt you would be.

im not doing nothing until, yall say what i should do...

So, you took out the sdcard, and it booted up? How long was it off before you booted it back up? I'm not yet sure the sd card was necessarily your problem. It *could* have been an overheating issue. You say it's booting up now? Shut it down normally, put the sd card back in, then see what it does when you turn it back on. A fried sd card can cause a lot a problems, but I'm not so sure keeping the phone from turning on at all is one of them. I could be wrong, though.

Haha, no need for anything like that :). Feel free to donate to the developers who provide all these amazing mods for these phones, though. They're the ones who do all this work with their own time. I just provide advice that I've learned over time :P.

:p question every time i plug in my evo it says something about found new hardware..should i continue to ignore or download?

What are you plugging it in for? Just charging or data? You can ignore it if so. If you want to install the sdk and use adb, you'll need to provide the driver.

only to charge, the cable is short and when I am on my bed it is easier to access, then if it were in the wall plugged.

From what I've read you get a better charge coming from the wall, so in the long run you might wanna make that happen. Plus you won't have to deal with your computer doing/saying things etc.

Hmm, yes it could definitely be caused by something like that. Since you got things set up the way you like, have you ever successfully rebooted the phone. Example - one time I flashed a kernel that seemed to work fine, but I didn't realize anything was wrong for almost 24 hours when I tried to open the camera, and it forced closed. When I did a reboot (the first since I'd flashed the kernel), it got stuck at the splash screen. While not exactly your problem, my point is that sometimes you don't know something is wrong until you have to reboot the phone, and it won't boot up.

Something you're doing could easily cause this. I would definitely not freeze core services like gtalk. Android relies on that service for more than just chat. Also, if you want to keep the search button from doing anything (which is what I assume you're trying to do), do it correctly by disabling the button entirely with the mod found here:

Be careful with removing bloatware and things you think are bloatware, but aren't. They are sometimes vital, and could easily cause your system to become unstable/not boot. I forgot to ask you yesterday if you'd rebooted the phone recently since making any changes. That could easily explain the problem.

yes i had rebootd it fine before even after i flashed a new kernal. My main thing to freezing search was because it's always running! I will have to find what is causing this. I think it might be one of the apps im freezing.
