Root Phone stucko on "4G" white screen

By always running, do you mean it was holding wake locks or was it just running in the background? If it's just running the background, that's what it's supposed to do. That's how Android works. Between your successful nandroid restore and the last time you got stuck at the splash screen, what did you change? It could easily be something you're doing. It's time consuming, but a common thing to do is start at a point where you know the phone works, then apply one mod at a time, and reboot. It takes a long time, but when you have constant issues, you it might be your only option. It could easily be something you're freezing, though. The rooting for dummies thread has a list of services that are safe to freeze/remove. Make sure everything you freeze in Titanium is on that list.

yea it's just running in the background.

I'm back to my first nandroid i've had it all day yesterday. I restored apps using titanium. Here's one problem I still encounter though. I use zeam launcher. When i turn phone off and turn it back on I lose my zeam launcher. I have to hit the home button and set it as default everytime I turn phone off. Do you know what might be causing that? I'm thinking about deleting my back up on titanium pro and just install everything from the market from scratch. I've also deleted cache. When deleting Davlik, is this something done from titanium back up ?

Do you have any other home replacement apps installed? Do you have an app installed to switch home apps (home switcher for example)? I assume you're selecting the option to make zeam your default instead of just selecting it, right?

If you suspect an issue with an app restored via titanium, there is not really a need to reinstall it from the market. You can restore it from titanium, but don't restore app data with it. Just restore the app itself. That should be good enough.

I don't understand your last question about dalvik cache. Dalvik cache is wiped from recovery just like normal cache.

yes i select make default and then i select zeam. I don't have a home switcher.

This dalvik cache, is this the same as "wipe cache" from recovery?

I don't see anything with the name dalvik in my recovery menu.

In Clockwork, it's under the advanced menu option. In RA it's under the wipe menu option. It is not the same as normal cache. You should wipe both before flashing roms/kernels, and some mods.

They should add this to the rooting for dummies. It says to wipe davlik but it doesn't tell you exactly how to do it.

I'm going to go back to my original nandroid back up, then wipe cache/davlik, flash new kernal, then back up apps from titanium.

is that a correct process?

There are a number of things you could do, but that should work fine. What is your original nandroid backup? Stock? I forget if you said whether or not you're using a custom rom. If you are, a cleaner way to do things is to make sure all your apps/data is backed up, wipe data/cache/dalvik, flash your rom, make sure it works, wipe cache/dalvik, flash whatever kernel you want, then restore your apps. It can be a pain to get all your settings the way you want, but it usually helps when you're having issues. Otherwise, doing a nandroid restore and wiping dalvik from now on should be fine.

My original nandroid back up is just the stock rom and kernal.

That's fine then. You'd probably be fine by just wiping cache/dalvik from this point on, but restoring that nandroid will definitely work fine.

when i wipe davlik am i supposed to get some kind of confirmation?

when i hit wipe dalvik cache it asks me to confirm, i hit yes, and then takes me back to where i can reboot and i have this on the bottom but i think its from wiping cache

--wiping cache...
Formatting CACHE:...
Cache wipe Complete.

is this message for my davlik cache or just the regular cache?

This is basically one of the reasons why a lot of people prefer to use RA recovery instead of Clockwork. There are conflicting reports that Clockwork doesn't wipe dalvik cache correctly. It always did the same thing to me where it didn't exactly give a confirmation. I don't really have an answer for you, but I would recommend using RA instead. You can't restore nandroid backups made in clockwork, but you can always switch back if you need to.

thats would be a whole new learning process  I'm just now getting comfortable with clockwork  grrrrrrr..... what to do......what to do......

in titanium back up pro there's a wipe dalvik option.....Does this do the same thing?

1) If you can use clockwork, you can figure out RA. It's not too difficult. For the most part, you just need to find the same options in a slightly different menu structure.

2) I would assume it does the same thing in titanium, but you should always clean cache/dalvik in recovery to be safe.

Ok can you point me to a thread that instructs how to get RA and how to use it?

I'm going to stick with clockwork for now because i'm at work and cant do much learning here.

Thanks buddy!

NP. The easiest way to get it is to install ROM manager, then choose the option to flash an alternate recovery (which will be Amon RA). It's as easy as that. If you already use ROM manager, keep in mind that you won't be able to use it with RA. If Clockwork is working for you, you can keep using it. Some people never have issues with it.

I just completed restoring to my original nandroid. I'm going to go to market and install ROM manager first.

downloaded but 'flash alternate recovery" is greyed out and I can't select it

also can i wipe cache/dalvik and flash new kernal while phone is charging on usb connected to pc?

When you opened ROM manager, were you prompted to grant it su permissions?

You shouldn't be doing anything in recovery if your battery is under 30%. If you don't have enough battery power to unplug the phone for the amount of time it takes to do whatever you need to (flashing a kernel takes very little time, as you know), then you should wait until it's charged enough, and just take it off the charger. Specifically, I'm not sure it matters if it's actually on the charger.

No it didn't ask me for SU permissions. i uninstalled and reinstalled just to make sure and nope it didn't ask for them.

Are you having trouble with any other root only apps at the moment? Nandroid backups can't be made until after you have root, so despite you having gone to a stock rom via nandroid, I don't see how you could be on an unrooted rom. Verify that you have the super user app, and also open the terminal emulator and typ su, then enter like you did earlier. Verify that you get the # prompt. Assuming you verify you have root, if you have the super user app, open it and see if ROM manager is on the white list. If you don't have the super user app for some reason, install it from the market.

I got the # sign with the emulator. I go into the super user app (black ninja) and i get nothign but a black screen.

A black screen? Do you see any tabs at the top? You're able to use titanium backup, correct? You should see apps you've used (at least since you restored) in the list of allowed apps.

Yea i have nothing but a black screen.

I haven't downloaded any apps remember i'm completely stock right now. I wanted to flash kernal then start installing apps. Could this be the reason i have black screen

Oh, well, if you haven't installed any root only apps, then sure, but if I remember correctly, when you get su permissions in the terminal, it should prompt you for super user permissions, then show up on that list. If nothing else, you have an old version of superuser. You can get the latest from the market. Not sure if that'll help, but give it a shot. You should be getting a prompt for things like ROM manager.
