Picture Quality

I'm in love with the camera, I have no complaints with it so far. I went outside and took this one yesterday.

Thanks for my motivation to work harder in life..and I am not talking about your pic quality...lol.....

I Love the EVO camera! I am a photographer by trade and this is becoming a nice tool for me for test shots and so forth. And the 360 camera app is phenomonal!!!! All these photos are stock camera phots tho

I don't understand how you all are getting such great results with this camera. Granted I'm using all the stock settings, pointing and shooting it. But my 2 mp LG Xenon took better pics than my Evo does. Looks like I need some practice with it ;)

This is a cell phone. Not a dSLR.
My Canon 30D is 8 MP and took MUCH better pictures, but keep in mind, that was a thousand dollar camera, not a cell phone.

I ran out back and took this the other day when a storm was creeping over. I think its a great camera for a phone

I use Vignette for my camera and I am very happy with it. It takes beautiful pics and has great features. What more can you expect from a camera phone. I'm just blessed that we have a phone with an 8 mp cam in it. My first phone was in a bag and weighed 25 pounds. We have come a long way since then. LOL

It's definitely capable of taking great pictures....but it takes patience just pulling it out and snapping a picture will usually lead to less than satisfactory results. For every good pic I get there are at least 30 blurry or grainy ones, mostly being due to low light. I'm confident enough in it's abilities that I rarely cary the sony 10 mp with me anymore.

do those of you that are experiencing issues use the tap focus feature at all? i.e. tap on the area that you wish the camera to focus on...that alone made my pictures much much better.

First day with the phone:

it will take a decent picture, but nothing that great. a real camera, even a cheap point and shoot, will blow the evo out of the water. it's nice for a quick spur of the moment shot, but nothing more.

Took this one of the Washington Monument last weekend. Thought it looked nice with the clouds and sunrays. The phone takes great pics with natural sunlight.

Ive had my EVO for just over a week now and Im very disappointed with the cameras quality of pictures and Video recording. It is very grainy when I take pictures and record video. I can take 2 pictures back to back with out any change in lighting with the same subject and one will come out dark and the next will come out ok. On the video playback the videos are grainy and focuses in and out while I'm stationary and freezes and distorts. Ive adjusted all the settings and tried to get it all figured out. And just when I get it to take decent pictures or record ok it just seems to still have moments that are dark and blurry. Does anyone else have these problems or maybe I got a defective unit.

If anyone else is having problems with there camera or video, please let us know. My brother has a GalaxyS and my other brother has a Captivate and there cameras seems to take better pictures and video better than mine.

First, for a cell phone, those aren't that bad of quality.

Next, what you're really running into is the automatic adjustment of the ISO for darker images. If you take a picture in full light, you'll see an amazingly clear image. If you want to get a less grainy picture in darker settings, go into your settings in your camera and change the ISO setting from Auto to a low number ISO. Keep in mind, the lower the ISO, the less light you're going to see in the image. If you're in a dark area and use ISO 100, you'll get a pitch black picture.

It's mostly here about the lens and your sensor size (and some internal workings). Forget about Megapixels.

If you want a high quality image in darker light (and keep in mind, just because you see huge lights in a stadium doesn't mean it's well lit for a picture in the area you're taking!), you end up in the realm of digital photography. I have equipment that will take amazing pictures in the same setting you have there, but it cost over $2000 and on the fastest lens has a lens opening bigger than the Evo :).

All in all, I'd be happy with what you're seeing, but feel free to tweak the settings if you want some better performance.

Adding in after the fact: I don't know if the Evo has a fixed Shutter Speed or not, but the other important thing to consider is that as the phone needs to gather more light, you're going to have a slower shutter speed, normally (for auto adjustments). Slower shutter speeds mean blurry images. Really low shutter speeds will give you a blurry image if you even breathe. This is the normal working of a camera.

OK I just read through this thread and now at least Iam not that concerned but still need to get some answers about whats going on with the picutre sizes when uploaded to photobucket and what is going on when I resize them. At least now I know about why they have been so grainy thanks to your knowledge on the ISO.

Heres is the link to all the pics I posted yesturday and new ones I took.
http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/72153-you-kidding-me-camera-quality-15.html#post1999669

Ok so I uploaded a couple of pics I had taken with my Evo on here and when I did I notice everyones pics in the thread were allot bigger than my pics I started to ask them what was going on. I had the 5.3 widescreen turned on and they told me to take it off. I did and tried taking new pics and seeing the results. The pictures did come out a a bit bigger. Before they were like most of the sizes that people took in this thread.

But when I tried resizing them in photobucket the quality would be effected which makes no sense since 8m enough to make a huge poster whith amazing quality.
There was also people with much bigger pics like the one of the Glof R32 which is here and these are people with HTC Incredible which of course have all the same camera componets.
imag0248x.jpg

This is the size I want to be able to enlarge my pics without having quality being effected.

The ones I had resized and made as big as photobucket let me and they were perfect high quality while mine which were smaller were loosing quality.
I want to know what the hell is going cuz this is making really angry and tried to find a solution all day yesturday whith absolutley nothing.
Here is the link to the page with the pics my post are all the way at the bottum with Mustang Cobra pictures. And for some reason this picture on that thread is huge I copy it and uploaded to photobucket and its very small compared to the one he originally posted so now I really dont understand what is going on Iam guessing they arent using photo bucket to enlarge the pictures right.

idk man. Me and my gf went out to take her fall pictures, and the camera on my phone was better then the camera on her...well, her camera.

Now that i think about it, i didnt use the app. I uploaded them using normal photobucket from the browser. Not the app, or the computer.

It's all in the lighting. I've noticed that the Evo tend to be more exposed hence all the white colors glow in very bright light. But in slightly darker instances like sunsets, sunrise or indoors, they take very nice pictures.

Here are some of the pics I've taken:

A trip to New York: Notice how too bright the whites are on the first picture, but the second one looks much better which was taken at sunset.
