Root Please Be Kind and Help Me

I've spent the last hour or so scouring the internet to find out how to root my phone and everything seems outdated. I click on a link to start and that link is invalid. Click on something to download and it's no longer available. I've even tried to idiot's guide to rooting on here and I've ran into the same issues.
I am not smart when it comes to this stuff. I want simple. Easy. Something a 4 year old could do.
I'm REALLY hoping someone out there says "I'll help you!"
I backedup my apps and sms stuff and transferred stuff from my sd card to my external hard drive but now I'm lost at where to go.
ISn't there a one click root for idiots like me?????

Are you using an EVO 4G?

If you are using gingerbread follow the rooting for dummies gingerbread guide at the top of this page. If your using froyo follow the rooting for dummies guide.

If you dont know, post your H-Boot.

If your not sure how, pull the battery, reinsert it, hold power & volume down and post your results here.

This is one of the friendliest and most helpful forums there are for the Evo, we WILL get you rooted.
 
yep like rxperts says. power off your phone then press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the hboot(bootloader). at the top of the screen will be your hboot.

if your hboot is 2.10 or less then use this guide:

The gingerbread root was written by a guy who really made it simple. However we know not everyone is savvy at these things so what ever questions you have we will help. Start of with telling us your device and we will go from there

I tried following the link at the top but when I clicked things to download it took me to a page that was no longer available
 
I have an Evo 4g by the way and am a 30 yr old mother of a toddler and pregnant....just so you know who you are working with! LOL! I mean, I know technology pretty well for a, ahem, female but I'm not too proud ot admit when something is over my head! :)
 
what are you trying to download? all you need to do is go to the revolutionary.io or whatever it is website. then download that and put the file on to your desktop. make sure ur evo is plugged in and has usb debugging on. The double click the revolutionary icon. it will recgonize your device and give you the serial #. copy and paste that # onto the website and then get your beta serial key. copy the key, and then press enter. when it asks to install clockworkmod recovery, press yes. Then you are all rooted
