Root Please help - cannot boot into recovery

Josh k

Lurker
I think I screwed up. I was rooted with unrevoked3 and tried to flash a ROM using ROM manager. I backed up before I did so. Something went wrong and somehow my phone went back to stock HTC without root. Now I can't root (at least using unrevoked) and I think its because the recovery got messed up. When I try to boot into recovery I get an error.

Is there a way I can restore my backup without rooting? Or a way to root that would work?

I am far from an expert at these matters, so please give me some slack.

Thanks!

Hmm... that's kinda interesting.

I would try the rooting for dummies thread, and go through the steps to unroot (involves a RUU ) and they try to re root (back up your backup from the sd card to your comp), then after you are rooted (assuming it works) restore that backup.

I too, am no expert on such matters, but that's what I would try.

So what you are saying is that you are "S-on"??? ANd that when you hold the volume down button and the power button you get an error message or are you still able to get into the bootloader(white screen with colored writing) and then get the message when you select recovery???

It sounds like you accidentally flash a PC36IMG.zip files with the contents of a RUU. Do you have a PC36IMG.zip file on the root of your sdcard? If so, delete it. Now, turn the phone on while pressing and holding volume down to get to hboot. Unless you have an older phone, and rooted via the eng bootloader, the only way to get S-OFF is with unrevoked forever, and the only way to lose that is to purposefully flash the S-ON tool. I know you didn't do that. So, verify you have S-OFF. If you can verify that, we can easily get things up and running again.

Ivansandroid, it sounds like you have a different, slightly stranger issue going on. Don't worry, we'll get it figured out one way or another.

im surprised EVOM hasnt popped in here yet, but akazabam will teach you the ways of zen-rooting young grasshoppah :)

Lol, I encourage you to add anything you feel is necessary. There are so many different ways of doing different things, that no one person will ever think of them all.

Lol agreed. When I see my opening I take it :). You are usually thorough and right on though.

I see youre using GB 2point3 now, anything spectacular about it? And yeah, akaza usually has everything you need to know(and some stuff you didnt even know that you wanted/needed to know) in his replys. A great big Steven Colbert tip of the hat to y'all :D

Yeah its been running for a few days now just had not updated. Its pretty nice, i seem to have stuck with it for some reason. When i first flashed it it was a tad laggy but it seemed to have worked itself out after a day. Runs super smooth and quick now. I like 180 degree rotation because unusually at work i have the shortest usb ever and it actually it suspended upside down lol so it works out that it flips right side up for me :).

Got GPS working on aosp finally on this rom and my vvm works. Also upgraded to pro plus so i have scroll widgets similar to sense. All in all its become a daily driver for me. LP plus made me not miss sense anymore and all the fixes worked. You might check it out and get it running it uses your beloved cm7 as a base. Also I used the red them so my glow and everything is red now not cyan :). (but you can use whatever color you like :) )

We managed to convert him to the DARKSIDE!:D

Oh its tragic. i just flashed a z rom...does sense feel clunky to anyone else after you get an aosp rom fully functioning? Even sense 2.0, just has a clunky overdone feel...

Uh, yep! I can't run a sense rom for more than a day after being on AOSP for a bit........kinda like driving an Escort for a day after Driving a Vette for a month. :)

LOL i dont know about an escort, it has too many bells and whistles, kind of like an old 70s cadillac at least, slow and clunky but with all the options available at the time, compared to a 70's corvette, you had to roll up the damn window yourself but damn that bitch moved.

I definitely agree with you there, sense *feels* sluggish overall compared to aosp. I can't explain it.
