not sure if this will work, since you have updated your evo to the latest ota. in the future never accept an ota if you plan on rooting. most of the time the ota will close the previous exploit used to gain root. so i'm not sure if this will work, but please read this before trying: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html.

I'm new to root. Got a quick ?. I recently rooted my evo 4g a week ago and the Software version was 2.3., however towards the end of final steps of rooting where you boot into recovery I got the "death triangle with the !" I re-downloaded this file PC36IMG, and let it update thru Hboot like the tutorials said. It finally let me boot into recovery but my software version changed to
Firmware version
2.1-update1
Baseband version
1.39.00.04.26
Kernel Version
2.6.29-a244342
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build number
1.32.651.1 CL171253 test-keys
Software number
1.32.65.1
Browser version
Webkit 3.1
PRI Version
2.15_003
PRL version
01115

Is this normal? Do I flash a rom and it updates. My phone now works the way it did when I got it a year ago before the ota's.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so you have recovery? if so, what recovery do you have? what was the PC36IMG file you used? what is your hboot?

if you have s-off and if you have a recovery then yes you can just flash a rom and the software and android version will be updated.

i would read this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html as well.

Thx! Glad to be here! , I believe I'm using amon ra 2.3, the PC3IMG file i used originally had RA .zip at the end of it's name when I was instructed to download it in a post I read. The post told me to save it without the RA and the .zip at the end so my Hboot would recognize it I do have S-off. It reads
Supersonic EVT2-3 Ship S-off
HBOOT-6.16.1002
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac

Well by the looks of it you should be able to start flashing :D Just remember to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do a nandroid backup before flashing or changing your phone in any way. And Have A Good Nandroid on your computer. Also You will want to invest in Titanium backup if you have not already.

and to add to what argedion said, make sure that you have at least one nandroid backup that has wimax backed up. just select wimax when making a nandroid backup. you only need one nandroid backup with it and save that one to your computer. after that you only need to backup the first three that are marked off already. there is a very small possibility that you could loose your wimax keys when flashing. if you have onenandroid backup withit saved then you are good to go.
