Newbie
I've been to every single forum and nobody will give me a straight up answer . So please help me out. My evo 4g usb port broke , so I am no longer able to use it directly connected to the computer . I have no idea what I need in order to unroot it that way . Can someone please help me out by giving me a step by step explanation on how to do this? please , this is my last hope

ok so if you have a card reader then you can get unrooted. you just need the unrevoked s-on tool and a PC36IMG file on your card. basically all you have to do is flash the s-on tool then install the stoxk rom and stock recovery via the PC36IMG file. you can get these files on the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide. it has an unrooting section. if you need further help, you know where to ask.

Is it possible to use apps like swiFTP to get the job done? Also, how do I flash the S-on tool? Thanks in advance. You're much help already

basically all you need is to get the two files on to your card. if that app can do it, then go for it. i think it is faster with a card reader though.

so the unrooting process is two steps:
1.flash s-on tool first through recovery
2.install stock recovery and rom via PC36IMG.

what hboot do you have?

no worries. power off then press and hold power+vol down. that should take you to the hboot screen. report back with the hboot version you have.

H-boot- 0.76.2000 (pc3610000)

ok so once you have the Unrevoked S-On Tool and this file: PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radi..zip on the root (no folder) of your sd card then this is what you do:

1.rename to this file PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radi..zip to just PC36IMG. do not add a .zip as windows hides extensions. when you go to recovery it might ask you to update, do not do it yet. select no.
2.next go to recovery
3.select install .zip from sdcard
4.select the s-on tool
5.power off
6.then again press and hold power+vol down
7.this will take you do the hboot screen
8.if the file is name correctly and on the root, it will ask you to update select yes.

after it is done you should be unrooted with froyo on your phone

okay a couple last questions before i try this. What does on the root of my sd card mean? And also how do I go to recovery. I think I know this but I just wanna be sure

put the files on the root means not in any folder. just the top level of the card.

you can go to recovery by powering off then press and hold power+vol down. make sure that when the screen asks you to update to select no.there should be an option for recovery. select that.

THANK YOU so much ! You have been such a big help ! Everybody I asked were being so rude . i wish I can thank you a million times. I'll try this out and see how it goes. Thank you so much ocnbrze. It's people like you that make my days!

Also it randomly pops up saying
"Loading... [PC36DIAG.Zip]
No Image!"

It says more but I don't have time to read it

It sounds like you are in hboot not recovery. It will scan for a PC36IMG file whenever you enter hboot. It will say no image if it can not find one. Use the volume buttons to go down to recovery on the menu and hit power to get to recovery. Do you have the s-on tool on your sdcard?

Yes , I did that also . I put the S-On on my SD And went to recovery
The only choices are
Bootloader
Reboot
Reboot Bootloader
Power down
Thats it in recovery mode

That is fastboot. Select bootloader, then if it asks you to update say no, then select recovery from the menu on the bootloader screen.

For some reason it is taking you to fastboot instead of recovery. You said it scans for a PC36IMG file when you go to bootloader?

Yeah I stilll have S-OFF , yeah it scans for it while I'm in bootloader

Go here and download the zip file for Amon RA 2.3. Remove the "_RA_2.3" from the file name and put it on the root of your sdcard(remove the other PC36IMG file for the time being). Reboot to hboot and see if it flashes Amon Recovery, then when it is done, tell it not to reboot. Select recovery and see if it takes you there or to fastboot still.
