Please post here when you receive ics ota

Freaking Enyo. Hope killer. But hey, the fassy is doing pretty well right now. Man, it had the best specs at its time, 1GHz single core processor. That was actually pretty smooth I'd admit 2 years ago. Good times.

Yep and loving project butter integration. Its been a quite long year for us, and it will be for a while. Pretty sad? Not really. I predict 2013 to be a year filled with dev support. Quote me if you want. This keeps the forum interesting.

Has anyone actually gotten the ics update for the spectrum yet??

I just checked my phone and that is a big NO. I think I might have to go back and root my phone again, ICS is taking to long. But we will see I have been to busy lately to mees with the phone so maybe a few more days unrooted

I really wanna UN root my spectrum but it doesn't matter now I'm skipping over the I c s going straight to the jelly bean update awaiting now android 4.2 key lime pie hahaha goodbye LG spectrum and hello Samsung galaxy nexus

Unless this phone is an anomaly, you don't need to remove root to take the ota. You DO, however, have to make sure you have the stock recovery (no cwm) and have all stock apps still installed. The ota will remove the root, but you don't need an uprooted phone to taken it.

Based on my experience with otas and romming, the only thing that will prevent you from taking the ota is if you deleted bloat/stock apps.... That's why we all recommend freezing them (that just prevents them from starting).

Enyo, the man of a million promises. I seem to remember at one point he said he had IOS running on a Fascinate as well as WebOS.

He did give us one of the first jellybean roms to play with... I miss all those threads he started.. 99% was just attacking him

Just got off from phone with VZW tech support. I told them that I am a frequent out of country traveler and need my phone unlocked, so that I can use GSM SIM card. He said that the phone is listed to get the OTA update to version 4 which will make this phone global ready. He said that it is being tested, but he doesn't know the date. He said that LG would know about the date and transferred me to LG rep. The LG rep in short told me that Spectrum is not listed to get ICS. Don't know whom to believe.

Neither. Customer service reps rarely know the real info on things.... They know what management lets them know. I speak from experience being that management (not for vz).

Same way in retail. (Unless you know the easy to guess management passwords for the 'action plans' and such). xD

Exactly and since many reps can't hold their composure, while others aren't the best at keeping information confidential, they only get told what they need to be told. Some of the crap my reps used to say to people blew my mind and made me confident they couldn't have some of the confidential info I had about business operations/changes. I'd be willing to bet that's the same here.

I think the LG rep is a total dipshit cause the phone would not have released with the indication of getting the update if it were not actually getting the update even if it waits for the release of the Spectrum 2 which is now what I read rumored for the Fall 2012 months I'm assuming probably October release

Indication does not mean verification or validation. GM could indicate a new corvette does 250mph,but that doesn't mean it can or will, it means there's POTENTIAL.

Lmao, the attacking part was so true. Barking at him for empty commitments. Still, he seemed like a chill person in the beginning until the members created the rep for him.

And again, I see two delays for the spectrum,

1. Verizon HAS to get the nexus update out, I am certain they have a contract stipulating it, and most likely have nearly everyone working on it that they can get.

2. The longer they wait, the closer the spectrum two is to launch. They don't want to jeopardize sales of the spectrum two by releasing ICS for the first spectrum a week or two before the second spectrum launches. Since the spectrum two cannot have jelly bean before the nexus, they are either launching the spectrum two with ICS or will delay the spectrum two until after the nexus and the spectrum one get their updates and they have JB ready to push for the Spectrum two within two weeks of launch.

Remember it is all about the Benjamins. Someone, somewhere, who does not make a lot of money, was told to figure out the best way to get it done with the highest profit, and that is what they will do (minus some tweaks from an executive that make no sense)

I've received 2 software updates with the last one just this morning. I don't understand why the version didn't change.

The only fault I see in this theory is the OTA can and most likely WILL be used as the launch OS for the Spec 2. When we consider how many Spec users are unhappy with their devices and the service of the manufacturer and VZ relative to other brands/models, giving up on the device and leaving us with the buggy 2.3.6 will doom the Spec 2. I don't have stats, but people generally upgrade their phone to a newer model and rarely jump to different brands; many of us made this jump to the Spec from other brands (I was a Moto user since the OG Droid pre-release) because of the promise of this phone, so if they don't fix the known problems with the ota, they can kiss that percentage of customers with Spec 1s good bye.

So what they *could*, and may very well do, is release the Spec 2, then push the OTA to us. Either way, LG is going to feel the hit from mishandling this phone and those of us that own them; I know I'm not going to get an LG again and will likely go back to Moto... I know there are others that share my sentiment here for going back to what we know.

I have had quite a bit of bad luck with Motorola, but I'm also thinking about going back to them for my next phone since they will probably have the best Android support and development now that Google bought them.
