Well I can tell ya from my experience with the DroidX VZW is anal about approving their ROMs. It took at least six months worth of leaks before they finally released GB. Hell we had CM7 first with a locked bootloader even. lol
Seriously. The update for the D2 took a year and I thought it would never come. Came out in August 2010 and I got my OTA Sept 2011.

BUT... generally speaking, when that rom is pushed, the thing is bugless and runs smooth. I can't say the same with the Razr ICS release (my wife has issues), but generally they're 100%.

I don't mind a wait for people to get things right, but when there is no information and no activity...

I am not positive which phones were advertised in the past as getting a particular OS by within a specific timeframe.

I think the Spectrum (and Lucid) were advertised specifically to appeal to those that didn't go the GNex route.

I has a question for you. Did Motorola inform any time frame when the OTA was going to be pushed? Or were you in the dark as we all are now with the Spectrum?

Your response will be greatly appreciated.

At that time, I wasn't as concerned with the release date, so I wasn't reading blogs and the Moto Site for it, but vz never gave a firm date.... They've been pretty hush hush about ota dates until recently. My guess is they figure after a few years of releasing after a set time, and with so many customers hounding them for info, assuming another release date for another similar manufacturer phone isn't implausible. It seems a recent change that they're starting to give the public more info on ota dates.

Yea but that is just because Apple only updates the name of their os every year. I mean has IOS changed at all since the first release? I know they introduced folders on 4. And now they have an extra row of icons. Innovation is really taking off at Apple :-D
Majority of Apples innovation died with Jobs. ;)

FWIW - I was just on the phone with LG technical support (handed off by Verizon) because my Spectrum would not turn on and was getting a warranty replacement. I wanted to discuss getting a different device since the Spectrum clearly wasn't getting the ICS update. The LG rep absolutely insisted that the Spectrum ABSOLUTELY WAS going to get the ICS update. His exact words were "I 100% guarantee that the Spectrum will get Ice Cream Sandwich".

I realize it is not only possible, but entirely probable that he was just saying that to get me to shut up and go away, but I offer this miniscule ray of hope if it helps anyone feel less angry/frustrated even if only momentarily.

Tbh, we are gonna have cm9 soon and most likely cm10 not long after that so I don't really care about the update. If it's out before cm9 is I'll check it out but I think cm10 is gonna be awesome. I can't wait to have Google now and the super smooth operation which jelly bean provides.

Do you have a link to a forum or site that has details on CM builds for the Spectrum? I have never seen any on the CM site, so I would like to read up on their progress. I'm not a programmer, but I find the process programmers go through fascinating.

in the All Things Root section, the Breath of Fresh Air thread.

Ics from LG looks nice. But with the progress tdm and the rest of the devs have made. I'm not worried about the ota anymore. It may help development. But cm9 is amazing so far. And its only gonna get better

Ditto. Ima put cm9 on this bad boy and lg can go fly a kite as far as I'm concerned. Even the pre-alpha cm9 is brilliant on this phone. Can't wait for a daily driver.

Here is a reply from LG through the BBB for you guys to pick apart for what it's worth. Just another noncommittal commitment , stating that both companies are back to "working hard" at this again. So anyway, I'm putting this here for anyone here who is not completely jaded by the drama up to this point.... have fun.

"LG takes pride in the quality of our devices and products and in delivering the best possible user experience for our valued and loyal customers. Along with our carrier partners, we work diligently to provide the best possible Android operating system experience to ensure optimal compatibility with each device. We understand statements have circulated regarding a possible ICS upgrade for the LG Spectrum on the Verizon network. Our technical team is working in direct collaboration with Verizon to try to make the possibility of ICS on Spectrum a reality, and we appreciate your patience. We will provide further updates at the earliest possible time."

what a joke! Pride? I don't think I'd be proud if I walked up to my boss 3 months late with a report due...I'd be lucky to still have my job. I guess when you're at the top responsibility and accountability are thrown out the window.

well it's still a no go until data works though. I realyl hope they are able to figure it out soon. Seems to be a bugger to figure out though.

I did flash cm9 tonight and it looks good so far. cm10 is what I'm really waiting for though :p

I dunno I've tried cm9 and cm10 on my tablet and there's no real noticeable difference, other than how notifications work in apps like the Play store. We don't have nfc, so much of the awesome features are moot.... Though Google Now is pretty cool. It's confusing at first, but cool.

JB is ALOT smoother ;)

My S III has been on CM10 since 8/15/12 and JB is a lot smoother than ICS. I went back to a stock (ICS) Rom cause its getting some great reviews and was on it for about an hour before going back to JB CM10. BIG BIG difference.

Im DL'ng CM9 now for my Spectrum...

Same poster on the LG forum that indicated ICS was in the VZW testing lab and had been certified indicates it's out of the lab with a tentative release around the 18th (in one week). I hope that is true.

I can care less about the update anymore. With the devs doing their thing with CM9 and 10 the update seems less important or relevant.

The only I would be interest to see is whether or not having thing update would help the devs fine tune and get past the last issues they are seeing.

Also if lg can come up with any nifty apps that were meant to improve the experience with the phone instead of made for trying to pick up a few extra bucks.

I think I'm going to wait until the OTA to make a final decision on my rom. However if the OTA helps make an AOKP 4.1.2 rom. Welll...... I think I might switch.

The update itself really won't help make a rom. We already have all the files needed. LG putting up the ICS source code would make a hell of a difference thou.
