Please post here when you receive ics ota

No, because the root exploit in that tool is for the gb rom. The exploit for the ICS rom is different.

I'm sure the tool can be updated, but I didn't write it, so I won't make that promise.

Ah ok. I guess the ADB way to root does work. I guess it would come in handy to have CWM just to do a backup I guess.
 
For root you should try the method i used on my lucid after i upgraded to ics. Its a universal root for ics phones i can post a link if you want to try
 
Hey what do you know? It wasent the ICS update just some enhancement to zv6 now I'm the trying it through then computer

I'm on HoLoS right now, but have a rooted v6 nandroid in standby incase I decided to take the ota when it showed up.

I'm game if it what you need won't lock the boot loader...
 
Hey all..I've been following this thread as all of us have regarding the Spectrum OTA ICS update. It has been a long time coming!!! Anyhow, I'm now running the official released ICS version 4.0.4 on my Spec as of around noon today. I used to Verizon Upgrade Assistant...it said there was an upgrade available, started downloading it (it was over 500MB), installed in about 7-8 minutes and all is fine! In settings/about phone it shows software V7 and android ver 4.0.4.

I also Got my Spec rooted as well. I used part of the "jcase" instructions for the Spec and just ran the following:

adb shell

$ rm /data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
$ ln -s /data/local.prop /data/vpnch/vpnc_starter_lock
$ exit

adb reboot

adb wait-for-device shell

$ echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop
$ exit

Then I used the AllInOnePackageSpectrum Root@Recovery AIO tool and chose selection 1 for root. It did it's thing and now my phone is rooted as well! Checked and verified with Root Checker Basic app.

Just be sure that phone is is debugging mode each time its rebooted (I had to change mine manually each time).

Where is this all in one tool? Also did you install cwm?
 
So far so good i like the update. Runs smooth and dont notice any lag. I even unistalled Go laucher since i dont see no reason to use it. There is still some bloatware that you cant disable like some said. Other than that i am extremly happy with my phone.... Was gonna pay cash for a GS3 or a Phablet , but now that i got ICS i can wait for my upgrade date.... Peace

So I guess that means the bootloader is locked lol.
 
If u install cwm u will get this, a bricked spectrum. Happened to me on the leak.

Can anybody confirm this? I'm sitting at full stock but can't update until I get to a pc and would like to know if I can root before i update.
