I have no luck with CM6 ROMS nor the Mau5 I get constant reboots, tried many different Kernels no luck

Apps to SD to Help your Storage Problem?
I also have lots of apps and Plenty of Space...around 70mb.

ANYWAY -
I also didn't realize this was multiple choice.....I have a new TOY Rom MAU5.....
See ya cm6 (yes i know its the same base)

No....I wouldn't either..... You have some serious apps my brotha!....

I don't really think I do.... There are more that I would have, were it not for the stupid tiny memory of this thing. Sorry guys, I'm on a rant here. Just kinda pissed I can't even try a new ROM successfully, and I have been looking at getting a new phone, but I can't until February.

Sounds like you have the same issue Lisa had, you may want to check her thread out and see if there is anything there that pertains to your issue, I would also post over @ XDA there are many more Devs there that may be able to pinpoint your memory issue

I don't have a leak Don. It is stable, and I reboot every other day and run cachemate often to make sure all is well. It just doesn't have enough memory for what I want to do. Like I posted above, the devs keep building bigger and bigger apps, and keep trying to trump the iPhone's app quality, and it is too much for our little Hero. I like the big apps, and have a few of them. I think that is probably the problem at its core.

You guys are great, though and I appreciate the response I always get when I post up my questions:)

I'm not going to speak for 330D but this is NOT an internal memory issue with the aosp rom. In comparison of the CM6 and aosp roms, after initial setup and TB restoring applications, I have at least a 30 mb difference between the 2 roms, period. Around 100 for CM6, around 70 for aosp and this is with only 23 apps downloaded from the android market. So, technically speaking I don't know exactly why there's such a huge difference, but there is;)

So what are the major feature adds that came in 2.2? I am coming from a Sense 2.1 rom to a stock 2.2 rom. There are obvious differences, but if I was moving from stock 2.1 to stock 2.2, what features would I gain?

Essentially all the goods of 2.2. Voice Search, Chrome to Phone, native apps 2 sd without having to set up apps 2 sd, Google instant on the web browser.... more than likely a faster phone with froyo. But remember, the Hero only has stable AOSP roms right now, the sense/froyo rom is still in development;)

Thanks! The apps2sd is a great pickup, though I am a bit disappointed in how many it really let's you move. TODO: explore using Titanium for this

I don't use Chrome, but I think Firefox has some add-ins to try. Also haven't explored the Voice Search features. I guess before I only had Voice Dial in 2.1? Not sure what I was missing here, but I'll play around with it.

The speed pickup has been great! And the memory pickup coming from Fresh. May have to try CM6 as well to see if I can get some more memory. Seems counter-intuitive that the faster ROM (ASOPmod) has a larger memory footprint. Normally bigger is also slower.

The other areas I have noticed in my previous attempts to change ROMs is Exchange support. It's always a box of chocolates. Sense v.s. non-sense and 1.6, 2.1, 2.2 all handle Exchange integration and security policies different. I finally drank the koolaide and bought Touchdown. As frustrating as it is to buy a $20 app on Android, they have filled a huge gap that exists in Android. Unfortunately they take up 17Mb of my app space too! But it's a show stopper for me. Without Exchange, the phone is nothing but a toy for me. With, it's an invaluable tool.;)

I tried CM6 for a week. I really liked the customizations but it was laggy as hell. I tried overclocking n stuff. It didn't matter. Once I got AOSP running, I didn't look back. The cool fancy settings are gone, but the phone is smooth, and everything works perfectly. I dig that. I will say tho, CM6 is what made me like NonSense...and from this point on I will never go back to Sense - especially when I buy a new device in Q1 next year.

Exchange works perfectly for me on AOSP 0.9.9.2. No Touchdown needed.

Told you we would convert you, LOL ;)

Do you have a corporate exchange security policy? One that forces a PIN number to access your account? That is my issue with Exchange. Not that it doesn't work, but it is clunky at best. You have to enter a PIN everytime the screen times out. So if I am talking on the phone for more than my 2min screen time out, I have to enter the PIN again to make another call.

The exchange server only requires PIN authorization every hour, but Android asks for it every time you come back from screen off. Froyo is better because it atleast gives me a number pad and not a keyboard to enter a number (2.1), but lock picker doesn't work on Froyo.

With Touchdown, I can keep my pattern to get into the phone I can do that in my sleep. And Touchdown only asks me to refresh my PIN every hour.

Yep check is in the mail, and I have no luck with CM6 as I mentioned to you, so if you can't beat them then you join them, LOL ;)

I'm beginning to think your on the payroll of aosp:p:p:rolleyes::rolleyes:

FYI I had done this last week in this same process and still had the same issue, I will try it again tonight for the heck of it, but let me tell you this, my phone must be different than most, as you know how I have to get into recovery, I have to hit the Volume, End, then Home, as many simply Hold the End and Home button, my issues usually come from, whenever I flash a ROM and do a full Wipe before, meaning, FR & Data, Wipe Cache, Davlik Cache and wipe all Partions Menu >>System-Boot-Cache- Data. no matter what Rom I flash 9 out of 10 times I get stuck on the Boot Splash Screen, I usually have to take the battery out, then reboot into recovery, Nandroid back, then if I want to upgrade, simply Wipe cache and Davlik, and then I can upgrade with no issues.

First, in clockworkmod, you do not need to go to partitions menu and wipe there. Wiping Davlik cache, data and cache partition is all you need to wipe.
Second, why nandroid restore so quick, wipe again and reflash.
Third, that's the same way I can boot to recovery so I doubt your phone is different than others

If you can't flash CM6, oh well, not the end of the world

Like mentioned I will try it again, and yes I agree you can also boot into recovery that way, but many cannot, which is weird, and the Partion Menu was advised by AOSP to do a wipe that way to make sure there was nothing causing issues, and I have also done it your way many times, which is the way I use to always do it and was taught to do it, I love AOSP as you know, but it is nice to play with other Roms when bored. I was able to get CM6 to work on my phone a month ago, but lately I dunno what the dealio is but constant reboots. but I will play again tonight for the heck of it, thanks for the advice again appreciate it ;)

If you use clockworkmod, it will automatically erase boot when going to a different rom;) Just like when you do a nandroid restore it erases everything for you when needed

OK Andy you were correct, this one worked, so far no reboots, I know I did use the same Kernel the last time and the same process, the only thing that looked different was the file, the one I tried was 6.1.0-Heroc - Final 12/07/2010 The only thing I can think of. I really wanted to try the Mau5 again to see but it seems it is not stable at the moment from what I was reading
