Pop-Ups on Android Forums Lately

Download NoScript (firefox add-on) along with ad-blocker like nmayer said.

It owns. I only allow 1 script on AF - androidforums.com
- and I don't receive any ads.

scripts blocked: google-analytics.com, cdnlayer.com, netshelter.net, doubleclick.net

It's good at blocking tracking cookies too.
 
Begining about 15 minutes ago (11:20 or so Central U.S. time), each and every click of any link on AF brings a large, screen obscuring Sprint Samsung Epic pop up.

:( It's defeating my no-pop up and ad blocker settings.
 
Anyone else getting this pop-up ad for the Epic from some third party seller on almost every page?

Seriously? Once is too much. But every page is enough to make me pull my hair out. Yes, I could (should) install Ad-Block. But I really haven't felt that I needed it until the ads got so intrusive here recently.

It's almost as if it does not want us to navigate the forums; every click causes it to come up.

[EDIT] I wonder if it's cookie generated.. I'm going to clear all cookies and log out and see if that changes this...

Stopped for me but I just cleared cache and history. But either way I'm glad it gone. Sheesh...for a second I thought Phil was trying to hypnotize us into getting an epic. Maybe Samsung slipped him some cash to do some extra advertising. lol.
 
What's up with all the pop-ups lately? It seems like every other page I go to an ad for a Samsung Galaxy pops up. I even use pop up blockers and run Firefox.

It's EXTREMELY annoying. Stop the Pop Ups!!!!!!!!
 
It was happening in every browser I tried yesterday, with no pop ups and adblock set to disable them.. so it defeats those settings.

The site administrator does not like them either, and is working to get it changed.

For what it's worth, they stopped after about one hour even of popping up with every page change here (every link clicked).. it was either timed or perhaps a certain number of clicks, not sure which, but it did stop suddenly.
 
Yeah, yesterday it was horrible. Literally EVERY page it would pop up. Today it's much better. Maybe 1 in every 5 pages. Still pretty annoying, but getting better for sure.
 
I cleared cookies and restarted my browser a few times (even went to other browsers :rolleyes:).. it was the worst I've seen with the notable exception of a full page pop up that used to cover the whole screen a while back.. they were able to get rid of that one.
 
That's weird! I was on most of the day yesterday and didn't see one popup. I never even see ads at the top of the pages that people talk about. I use Chrome with Adblocker turned on, so maybe that's why?
 
i was going to make same thread yesterday! (or did i?)

im all about advertisements but it shouldnt alter the user-experience of the members
 
As mentioned before, the site admins and owner do not like the members to experience intrusive ads, so they contact the originators of those ads as soon as they can to have them stopped.

It's a free site for members, unless the member opts to go "premium" and pay an annual fee, so the ads are needed.. costs of running huge servers for a site this large are constantly going up and are now so high that many forum operators run at a loss or just break even.

It's an ongoing process. This is the best device oriented forum cluster I've ever seen, so a bit of annoyance now and then is a small price to pay for what we get be coming here on a regular basis.
 
Epic 4G ad still pops up, I was registering this morning (lurker who has never posted till today) and it came up. I attached a screen shot. I own the Epic and I hate this ad!

And just now, every single time my screen refreshes the Radio Shack ad pops up at the bottom of the screen. It isn't malware, trojans, etc. And it only happens on this site. It must have just started a little while ago.

If it is still happening when I log off tonight I won't be logging back on. There are other Android sites without ads blocking what's on the screen.
 
I have the same complaint... I've been trying to get the ip to add to the hosts file but I haven't been successful yet. It's amazing to me they think they'll get sales from people by badgering them with ads like this. I don't mind banners and ads on the site, but this one is really annoying.

I searched for radio shack looking for a thread with someone complining about it to add my comments to. I knew there would be at least one.
