Pop-Ups on Android Forums Lately

Site is totally useless on my android phone and very annoying on my computer due to the big Radio Shack ad blocking everything. Let me know when it is fixed and if I havent stumbled onto a better site by then I shall return.

I will not be switching to FF to ad some script to keep this crap from happening. For as long as I've run Opera I've never had to deal with this. I'm on another site and the ads from Google generate money for the company owning the web site. So I can see where those serving the ads think it is necessary. I'm just not going to deal with it.

Oh, and there is NO ad at the bottom of the page for this to generate from. I think it's coded into the forums.

I see no ads, saw none before I went premium, Firefox and AdBlock Plus take care of them.

As I said, I've used Opera for years and it's less complicated to find another Android site than to have to reinstall a new browser.

OK bye!

Seriously though, I use Chrome and have never had an ad problem. Maybe try that?

I disabled adblock to see what you guys are talking about and wooooooow that radio shack ad at the bottom is heeeeelllllllaaa annoying. ADBLOCK enabled.. bye bye radioshack ad

I typically do not have much of a problem with the ads. From time to time I get a pop up and just close it.

With that said, I have been online for about an hour and a half tonight and EVERY page I have opened across the phandroid site (androidforums.com, phandroid.com, androidapplications.com) has displayed the radioshack add at the bottom of the page.

Now, I am not going to freak out and leave because of this. I'm a staff member and a premium member. Of course, that doesn't really matter because I love this place too much. However, it is quite annoying.

I have tried this with FF, Chrome, and IE. I have also been on the full site on my phone and my phone doesn't display this ad at all. Now, that may be because I am running UD 2.0.0 and have the ads blocked, but I doubt that that is the case. This is because the banner ad at the top of the page is still displayed.

To everyone who is taking about leaving because of this, please reconsider. This place is wonderful and I can assure you that the Admins will do everything in their power to get rid of this ad.

If you read through the rest of this thread, you will see complaints and comments about other pop up ads. I have experienced these ads and can say that within a week of the complaints and comments on them, they never showed up again.

Anyways, that is my two cents.

As I said, I never had this problem with another web site. After looking at options, I found Opera has the option to disable Javascript for individual websites. So I did it for this one and the ad went away. No additional software was required. So unless for some reason it comes back I'm good. But it isn't Google serving the ads for sure.

Bummer, the menu bar must be Javascript.

Owner said he will be taking care of/looking into this tomorrow morning. I would bet these kinds of adds are annoying to him as well.

RS ad campain was given the emergency brake by the Rob-man himself. Just wanted to make sure it was good to go.

The full page ad is annoying for me, Rob doesn't seem to like them either.

Glad rob did, people were getting rather perturbed with the RS. After that was handled i decided to turn off ad block plus and that's when the full page one started hitting, the option to skip is nice as i haven't even let it load all the way before i hit the 'go to phandroid' link.

That being said it's only been 3 days or so and i usually leave AF page open in my browser for days at a time and it only seems to hit when i first open the forums. Therefore i don't see it very often.
Still test driving this add thing as i have been running ad block on EVERY site religiously for years now.

It's how sites make money. People can claim ignorance but it isn't that. I'll be finding another site to play in, tired of the ads covering my screen.

I don't have a problem with ads as they need them to keep the lights on. With that said I can't imagine the radio shack ad being approved by the site owners as it makes the site unusable. I will be back once I can read the content.
