Possible Fixes For Freezing/Rebooting Issue.

Luckily the guy at the place I go is very understanding a kind, he said he would waive the $10 everytime until I get a working one. He also says he knows about the freezing/rebooting problem, and has suggested an Advanced Task Killer, but he saw I already had it installed, and it wasn't doing the trick.

I'll tell him my idea about the battery, and see if I can get another one.
my opinion, get rid of the task killer. android 2.2 and up have a very good built in task killer, not one like an app, the os will take care of it on its own.

you sure the task killer isnt causing the problem?

I install task killer every time I get a replacement, so it's not out of the question, but then again I still freeze/reboot after a hard reset. But I haven't tested that with the most recent replacement.

RE: ATK (Advanced Task Killer) and the LG Optimus M freezing issues.

From my own experience, and what I've read several other places. The ATK neither causes, nor fixes the freezing/rebooting issue.

I had an LG Optimus M that came factory loaded with 2.2.1. It froze up out of the box. Did a factory reset, did not help. I rooted the phone, removed all unnecessary garbage. Made no difference.

Also , as another poster mentioned, the ATK is simply unnecessary. Android does its own task management.

Yeah, google even confirmed this (in an article somewhere I believe). That the ATK is unneeded.

But, like you said, it's not the source of the problem either. I as well did a factory reset, as well as a 2.2.2 upgrade, and still have the freezing with no apps installed.

It could just be a hardware malfunction shipped with many 2.2.1 models.
But many have stated they resolved the issue with various fixes.
So far i have found nothing that really works.
Though, I had reason to believe that LG Home was causing my fc and such that came while browsing (it didn't matter the browser), it would crash in a matter of minutes upon opening. I then found out that it would crash while LG Home was running in the background (i had only used pro launcher at the time). And I guess it worked kinda. I had a task killer that would close specific apps everytime the screen went off. But that became redundant and less convenient I'd have to hit the sleep button like every 3 mins just to make sure. That was while I had 2.2.2 installed.
Yesterday I downgraded back to 2.2.1 and today I re-rommed to the Sense rom. Though this didn't even install LG Home. So I guess my "trials" were inconclusive.
So far nothing has worked with my branch of the issue (I did notice that the phone does reboot at least 10x more when wifi is on, though). I haven't tried the Team Chicken Eater rom extensively enough to notice anything. I read on a different thread that it helped someone. So I guess its worth a go. I'll post on that too when i get some working data.
In the meantime, Have a nice day. :D

After 4 replacements within the same few weeks, I finally got one without the freezing/rebooting issue! Was worth it, I love this phone to death.

The guy at the store was understanding, and didn't charge me for the shipping on the replacements (usually $10 per replacement)

So to anyone having this issue, and trying all the fixes with no luck, just try to get it replaced at the metro store if you can. And keep getting it exchanged until you get a good one. Only way that works sadly.

my phone would reboot a lot too (2.2.1), I rooted and put the sense rom on it, still had issues, but after a couple of days it didnt reboot anymore :) I now have team chicken eaters rom and still no reboot issues :) my mom and dad has the same phone with stock 2.2.1 and they dont have reboot issues but my moms speaker one time stopped working and didnt work until after shutting it off and turning it back on manually and then also her microphone stops working in a call and she hanged up and reconnected and it worked just fine after that. These phones have a lot of glitches in 2.2.1 stock roms. I'm gonna upgrade my moms phone to 2.2.2 and see how it goes.

EDIT: My phone just rebooted... I must have spoken too soon.... It froze while I was looking at settings.

I had tried my trials in my last post, and it worked for like 5 hours.
Was gonna post a follow up from the phone and while typing it reboot on me.
That was the first time it really pissed me off, so I put it aside and didn't use it the rest of the day. The next day, i flashed sense back.
Currently its on the sense rom, and OC'd. Which I also read helps.
The first day it didn't reboot, but since then it has reboot like 5 times. All at various speeds, so I believe its still the phone, and not the speeds being unstable. So I'll keep trying different things. eh.
Have a nice day.

haha. just accidentally found out it is unstable at 825mhz...crashed instantly.

I had this problem when I first got the phone. I took it back within the first month, so they replaced it over the counter for free. I had to do this 3 times until I finally got a good one. The one I have now (my fourth) has never had any problems. I think it is maybe on a different update than the first three, because I have noticed subtle differences. I'm happy to report that it has not rebooted once since I got it, and I have had it for over a month now. It is apparently a known issue with the phone.

Im glad you have found a working one, and i think you're right about the update thing, or at least I hope the problem is just a software issue and not necessarily a hardware issue. So far I have reason to believe that over half of the 2.2.1 models were shipped in a bad batch with this issue.
Also, by searching other LG threads, I've noticed that the close related Optimus C and other phones on the Optimus line feature this known issue, making me doubt that its an exclusive, overlooked issue.
I'm sure Lg could fix it all with specific updates. though, im not sure why they haven't even made an attempt, or even addressed this issue.
I hope they do.

People on the LG forum posted a thread about a class action suit, but i doubt it will become anything serious, If I notice anything about that, I'll post about it.
anyways, i hope you can find something to help fix your issue.
Have a good day.

Running for an hour now... no freezing, no reboots !

Hey, if its the 2.2.2 update, that's been out for a while now.
And that hasn't really helped my phone. But if it's something other than that (you can tell in the phone info part of the settings), could you please post more information about it and how it runs or looks. Many people are waiting to see another update from LG and some are becoming skeptical of one ever being released. Anyways, thanks and have a nice day.

By the way, I was looking on the LG forum and noticed a user with the same name posted a similar reply, so I'm just questioning the validness of this post.

Yes, it's still 2.2.2 but it's Software version MS690ZV7. My phone was manufactured 09/2011 and was SW ver. ZV6 and was not eligible for update until yesterday. On your phone, you can go to "Settings" > "About Phone" > "SW Version" and check. The latest update will end with ZV7.

I've rebooted it because I tried Gingerbreak ver. 1.20 which did not work, but my phone which would reboot or freeze every 10 - 15 minutes now has an uptime of over 18 hours.

Load up the update utility and see for yourself. The little tray icon will check your software version. If your's ends in ZV6, do the update.

And yes, I am the same poster from LG Forums as I was skeptical and anxious for the forthcoming update as well. It's valid. If in doubt, check for yourself.

I'm not so sure about what your saying, but if it is really significant, I'd suggest creating a thread for that sole purpose. If you choose to go that route, please include as much information as you can. Thanks.

Oh also, have the update help prevent the reboots on your phone?

Ben,
Yes, its stopped freezing and rebooting, that's why I posted my uptime (Now over 19 hours). If it reboots, your uptime is reset to zero. I posted a new thread on LG Forums, stating that the new SW Version is MS690ZV7, if your's is ZV6 do the update. It's still Android Version 2.2.2, but the "Software Version" has changed. It's definitely helped my phone. I was following this thread and read of your issues and was checking the LG Forums too.

There was a lot of negative stuff and mention of an up coming maintenance update, but nothing of any certainty until now.

Give it a go, hope it works for you as it has for me.

Just to clarify, on your phone, press the menu button, select "Settings", go to "About Phone"(very bottom of page), once you select "About Phone", scroll and look for "SW Version", if yours ends with ZV6, you need the update.

You'll need the LG Mobile Update Utility which can be found here:
http://www.lg.com/us/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp
Follow the instructions and load all the drivers. There are 3 drivers that load on your computer. After you have them loaded, you connect the phone via USB and it updates. Mine took about an hour. The software download is just over 125mb.

well sadly it looks like I got stuck with one of the bad ones!

I had one that had zero issues of any kind, then one of little sd card metal prongs broke so the sd card couldn't be read. So my friend had an optimus she let me take. I had already rooted it a while ago.

I bring it home, did a factory reset and noticed superuser was left behind after the factory reset. Didn't think much about it, and installed gingerbreak and titanium backup and got it to how my original one was. Started to notice the reboots and have been reading (and was greatful I had one that had no issues) the posts about the issues.

My problem now is, I can't seem to get custom recovery to install. ADB on my computer wont work (says its an unrecognized command or batch something), when I used it to install joneidy's recovery a few months back. Even when I try the steps and commands with terminal emulator it gives error or says file or path doesn't exist.

So I'm stuck. Should I use LGNPST and try to put the stock 2.2.1 rom from downgrading thread? Just worried its gonna zero out my numbers n stuff. After I did the factory reset, why would superuser icon still be in the apply drawer?

So what do you guys think? Should I try n flash the stock bin and re-root with gingerbreak and restore from my titanium backup? Or keep trying (with no success) to install custom recovery and keep.it how it is?

Wow. Okay well to start things off. A factory reset deletes all the user data. Though, it doesn't erase the system/apps. Superuser installs in the system/apps folder so it would stay there after a factory reset. I would advise doing the downgrading thread and flashing the stock.bin file if you want to start over new...and it seems like you would want to. Also there is a thread (though I'm not sure exactly which one) that discusses an app the flashes recoveries and maybe that could help you, I've used it twice, so I know it does what it is supposed to.
Hope it works. :D

thanks fir the reply. this sucks cause I had one that was perfect...LOL

I seen that app flashgui or something but the link to the "free" one wasn't free. I just want my overclocked kernel back lol.

So using lgnpst with the stock 2.2.1 bin will erase everything? even the system apps and stuff? I should just be able to open it and choose the bin file and ill have service like I should. cause I've been reading (even when I had my working perfect optimus) a lot of people getting zeroed out after. I have no internet on my home computer right now, so all this is being done from my phone. So your saying that that app will flash the recovery without the need for adb or btep?

what sucks is that all that is wrong with my non rebooting one is on of the sd card metal prongs is broke off. but more then half my alps were stored on it, so it was pretty much unusable...to me atleast. I might try the 2.2.1 bin and re-root and restore and see what happens. I save everything and still have the rooted bin and files that came with it, but can't find the thread I got it from. sounds easier to just select the bin and cross my fingers!

ok, so I found 2 archives on my computer.

One is labeled: MS690ZV4-root and has an older prl (3017nam1), busybox file, su file, and a superuser.apk.

The other is OPTIMUS M STOCK ROM.

I want to know which one is best to use and if there is a difference. I remember using the root one when I bricked my first one, but can't find the guide thread that it came from to follow.

Should I just do the stock one, or is the rooted one any different and how would I install the busybox and superuser since they are included in that zip?
