Help Post FROYO update problems

I updated my Ally via the LG mobile support tool last night, and two things i noticed was the physical home doesn't work at all, and when i press the Hang Up/OFF key it doesn't lock my phone any longer. I've powered it off, hard reset it, and looked around for some solutions but haven't found much. Has anyone else encountered this?

I'm new here so thanks in advance for any help.

I still can not get the update from either the mobile updater or OTA. I had the phone rooted and installed velocity on it to try to fix the constant reboot issue that I was having with it. The phone is not activated on any Verizon line right now (reboot issue forced my wife to continue using her Eris). I took the phone back to stock v6, and waited and accepted two updates yesterday, one was to v8 and the other was to vc (both these updates were ota). Now both the mobile updater and the ota updater on the phone both say I am up to date. Whats funny is the mobile updater lists vd has the current S/W version for my phone, reads that I have vc installed, and still tells me it is up to date!! I really want to get this update on the phone so my wife can use this, her Eris is dying a slow painful death.

One thing I noticed is the news and weather widget doesn't work. screen shot. Factory reset fixed this.

i don't know about anyone else, but after the update through LGMU, i can't use the gmail app at all. i'm also getting random reboots for seemingly no reason.

i'm hesitant to do a factory reset, because i have all kinds of data that i'm terrified of losing completely. can someone please hold my hand(figuratively speaking) through the process so that i don't feel like so much of an idiot?

Not sure if it's a problem or an intended feature but when opening a text message via the included messages app, the message thread briefly shows full screen before the touchscreen keyboard opens to reply. For me, I do not like it.

LG Mobile Updater = Trouble and Hassle

some people may have no interest in root and just want to update their phone to Froyo so we owe it to them to at least give them the info if they ask. If it messes up you can just take the phone back to Verizon. I don't think this official update would void your warranty. See LG Official Service

Verizon doesn't support the LG Mobile Updater. So if you mess up your phone you will have hope Verizon will help. #ally chat in IRC won't be helping those who updated this ways

Even if you don't plan on rooting your still risking your phone. The LG Mobile Updater even says.
As the usual end users expect only
one time installation, they can suspect
installation might go wrong.
Thus, a notice shall be helpful to prevent
the end users from being mislead.

I also called verizon cause i was having usb port trouble and i told them about the 2.2 update via LGMU and i was spefically told "Since verizon didn't push that peice of software to your phone we do not have support for it".

We aren't trying to force people to not use it but we'd rather they wait for an OTA as it's the more safer way. Just trying to prevent future bricks :p.

If I messes up my phone that way I'd just take it into Verizon and say "I got a message to update OTA and now my phone is broke". If they ask anything just look at them with a blank stupid "I don't understand what your talking about" stare. BTW, Whats aosp30 dots?

LG would still have to honer the warranty regardless, and its Verizon's and LG's modified software which they had to give LG permission to release so they would have to honer the warranty in most states also.
As far as people refusing to help others in #ally chat in IRC, that's their call, but it would be BS refusing to offer people help on this board, that's why it exist.

Verizon will try to say since it wasn't pushed by them yet that they wont have to support it. Whatever says the business money. Plus we would be willing to help in #ally but we don't support that method. You should at least warn people of the dangers before promoting the method.

I'm sorry Rage if it seemed to you or anyone else that I support that method, I don't support one over the other but was simply answering a question posted by a fellow forum member so they could make their own decision. As far as dangers go it's more dangerous than OTA but certainly less dangerous than flashing to a third party ROM, especially if you only want Froyo and have no interest in rooting. At any rate, this is just beating a dead horse at this point so I'm not going to post anything else about it.

The only thing I've had go wrong so far is my phone will not charge with the wall chargers I ve but will in the car and from pc

Are you using a wall charger that came with your phone or a LG replacement? Some of the cheap aftermarket ones won't work or will shorten the life of your battery because they don't put out the proper voltage, right at 5VDC I think.

i have the same problem, and it's not just ally's, it's a lot of phones with Froyo.

2.2 update - LG Forum

I no longer have led notifications. I've gone through all of the settings.
I don't see led notification in the email settings.
Gmail would trigger it.
A received text would trigger it.. using handcent
The led works. When I charge it is lit.
This might be by design.
All notifications work in the status bar and on the icon with some launchers.
Does anybody else notice this?

My stock charger was bad out of the box and verizon wouldn't replace it so I got an aftermarket one and it has worked fine for 7 months just after the update is when it started and it has the same output of the stock charger, also tested on roommate 2.1 ally charger is working fine.

does your roommate's charger work on your phone? call Verizon tech support or take it into a Verizon store if not.
