Well I got impatient for my new fittings to arrive so I stripped the GTX 690 and applied the waterblock (3.5 hours) then used temporary fittings, so don't laugh - it will get better. It has reduced the GPU temperature under max load from 80 degrees C to 47 degrees :tee:

Wife got me a GTX 770 SC for my birthday, which is now installed and running like HOT FIRE! (Chappelle's Show reference, iydk).

As promised, benchmark scores from 3DMark.

I haven't had a chance to get pictures of the GPU yet. I've been super busy and way too lazy to disconnect the rig and move it to better lighting lol.

Not exactly a "custom rig" I picked up this Dell Studio 1558 laptop on ebay "for parts or not working" and I got it for

Aye. I was thinking about selling off my 570HD and upgrading to turn this into the ultimate graphics machine.

I feel like now is the best time to do so with all these GPU sales going on.

So many sales, only a finite amount of money to go around. I also need to pick up a new pistol, another HDD, and a few other toys for around the house.

Just picked up this Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 on ebay for use while my desktop is out of service.

What happened to the desktop?

The Corsair AX860i PSU which caused problems a few months ago appears to have developed the same problem only worse. I will consider it my duty henceforth to slag Corsair off at ever available opportunity.

:( But I really liked Corsair

Hows the laptop/Win 8 going for you?

(I found a trick to bypass the Win8 screen so you boot straight into the log in screen. Might be handy for you)

The laptop is a beast and since it has space for a 2nd HDD I plan to use one of the SSD's from my desktop as c drive and the existing 1TB drive as storage.i planned to ditch W8 but I have downloaded Classic Shell which makes it look like W7 so I may keep it.
BTW in 3 years of building and modifying PC's I have never had to RMA anything before.

In the spirit of this thread on Sunday I decided to install the SSD, an OCZ Vertex 3 240GB. I wrestled fruitlessly (with much swearing :o ) to follow Dells instructions and after about 2 hours it failed to boot so I threw a tantrum, erased the SSD and installed my own Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. After wading through the 150 odd Windows updates and locating various Drivers (I had to go to the Lenovo website for the SM Bus Controller!) it runs like a dream - bootup time is about 20 seconds from pressing the button, and it runs video games nearly as well as my desktop.
