We bought our first washer and dryer shortly after learning I was pregnant. If memory serves, that was our very first purchase on a credit card. Much like you, we had to pass up the fancy-schmancy models; we settled on the least expensive, but large capacity, set they had. Those suckers lasted well over 15 years! Ditto for our bottom-of-the-line first refrigerator--it finally conked out after 17 years. By then, we could afford top-of-the-line stuff, but I'll always remember fondly those first appliances, and how long they held up.
