Root Power button stopped working

The power button on my Optimus V has completely stopped working. I ordered a new phone to replace it.

But how can I wipe my Optimus V?

I can't boot into recovery to wipe data/factory reset because the power button no longer works. I can't even reboot or power on/off the phone.

I can't pull the battery because I'll have no way to turn the phone back on.:(

I've installed the ADB shell on my PC. My phone is rooted (running CM7 BACKside ROM). Can I connect the phone to my PC with the USB cable and issue commands?

When you say you installed the ADB shell, do you mean the Android SDK?
With the LG Optimus V USB drivers installed, and you phone plugged in to the computer, open a termial and type in: adb devices.
If you get an output with what looks like a serial number then it is set up properly. If not let me know.

I'm going to have a moderator move this thread to the All Things Root sub-forum, as it is now a discussion on Root Things.

Sorry, what I mean is I installed just the ADB program, not the full SDK, by following the instructions here:
http://androidforums.com/micromax-a56/603700-tutorial-how-set-up-adb.html

It seems to be working properly. I am able to retrieve the serial number off the phone from the command prompt on the PC by typing "adb devices".

I haven't tried rebooting the phone using the ADB program yet, but that will be my next experiment.

I have another question though. I got my new phone in from FedEx and I'm planning to go to the Virgin Mobile site and use the "Swap Phones" function to activate the new phone. After I do that, what state will my old phone be in? Will it be just as it is now, but without any cell signal? (I want to make sure I can still wipe it after I do the "swap phones" on the Virgin Mobile site.)

You're fine with the minimal ADB setup you've installed on your PC now. SDK is the Software Development Kit; an environment/emulator for developing your own ROMs, apps, and/or Android software. Just reboot into recovery via the command as riggerman has indicated earlier. After swapping phone, your OV should no longer have VM phone and data services but it should still be functional via WiFi. You could wipe the OV after the swap. You might want to wait until you're satisfied that the new phone is fully working before wiping--just in case you need to swap back to the OV for whatever reason.

Well I rebooted from ADB, but it went directly into charge mode. So now the ADB program doesn't see the phone (because it isn't really on - it's in charge mode). I guess I'm not going to get a chance to wipe the phone now. :-(

I just figured out that if the phone is in charge mode, and I unplug the cable and then plug it in momentarily and unplug it again quickly, the phone will reboot! :-)

So next I'll try the reboot with recovery from ADB.

Thanks. Now that I know this trick for powering on the phone without the power button, I'm thinking I was a bit hasty in ordering a replacement phone. :o

Hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

Wanna know a few power tricks with the usb cord,
Recovery: Hold volume down and home, plug in usb cord.
Android: plug it in, unplug it, plug it in, repeat till untill it starts to boot.
