Yes, root your phone and then get Titanium back up and uninstall the stock app.
I rooted my phone, and, since I use GO SMS pro, thought I could delete the native messaging.
Then I couldn't get MMS anymore, and even basic SMS seemed a little buggy. Had to manually replace the files to get functionality back.
Use HandCent. No problems removing stock Messaging App.
SMS and MMS both work.
Was wondering if that worked because I use HandCent but didn't know if it relied on anything from the stock app.
I have the Captivate, but I think for the most part, this could work with other Droids too. After rooting my phone, I downloaded GO SMS too to use as my default message app. I deleted my stock messaging. Didn't realize that I wasn't receiving mms messages until my husband tried to send one from his new phone. Turns out that since I removed the stock messaging, *nothing* was handling my mms messages. I had to go into GO SMS >Menu > Settings >Advanced > Important Tips and check the box that states "Stock SMS uninstalled." This tells GO SMS to handle the mms messages.
