Anyone know what this notification is for? It's a small green circle with a white check mark in it, and it appears of and on throughout the day in the message bar. And what setting is this related to?

Anytime you change from 3g/4g to wifi or vice versa it will tell you thatvso you lnow. Also if you male a call it will also tell you that if it disconnects from data.

the phone is set to automatically search for the best network to connect to. if you happen to not like it, you can change it in settings -> under data there is more settings -> mobile networks -> data optimizer. there's a button you can check/uncheck.

I think in order to get rid of that message you have to go to network mode and change it to CDMA only instead of CDMA/LTE. Turning off connections optimizer still shows that preparing network status.

hmm, makes sense. i have mine set to CDMA only anyhow.

That has to do with searching for the LTE frequency.

When LTE is switched on, it auto updates your profile, if you manually update your profile, you'll see it does this too ;)

Do you know if it happens more often in a fringe or non-LTE area? I see this message quite a bit at home, not so often in other locations. According to Sensorly, LTE has been detected literally all around me, but I don't pick it up in my house.

Also, would this cause the battery to drain more quickly, since it is searching more often?

You'll see it anytime your phone loses and gains service or anytime you change between 3g and 4g.

If your in a bad area and you lose signal a lot or in bad 4g area and you switch back and forth between 3g and 4g alot you'll see it quite a bit.

If you delete sprintdm.apk out of /system/app it will stop doing it. You'll just have to update your prl and profile manually. I deleted it with no ill effects. You'll need root to delete it and if you do keep a backup copy of it or create a backup in recovery

You can disable this message/feature by rooting your phone, downloading App Freeze from the Play Store and disabling Samsung DM service. after disabling it (as oppose to deleting the app as stated in the post above), your phone will still be able to connect to LTE and vice versa but you won't be able to update PRL or Profile, which is all I think this feature is.

FYI- So long as Sprint/VirginMobile are continuing the 4gLTE rollout, your PRL will probably need to be updated periodically. If you do disable SprintDM, you should re-enable it every month or so and update your PRL and Profile manually in Settings, then you can disable it again (I prefer TitaniumBackup to freeze it).
