Prez Candidates

EDITOR’s NOTE: This post has been updated. An earlier version stated that the Cruz campaign was set to unveil four or more endorsements from Cruz’s fellow senators. The number of senators who will endorse Cruz is not known.

Ted Cruz’s colleagues may loathe him, but at least some seem to have found somebody they dislike even more. With the prospect of Donald Trump’s nomination looming over the GOP, Cruz is set to unveil a slew of endorsements — at least one from a Senate colleague – as early as this week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Cruz has until now failed to earn the endorsement of any of his fellow senators, a fact that Donald Trump has beaten him over the head with. But as many see Marco Rubio’s prospects dimming, some members of the upper chamber are beginning to make peace with Cruz, convinced that he’s the only candidate who can stop Trump. If Rubio can’t clinch his home state of Florida on March 15, yet more may come forward to back the devil they know.

Nebraska’s Ben Sasse has been one of the only Republican senators to publicly take a stand against Trump thus far. In an interview last week, Sasse recounted the moment South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham conceded that Republicans may have to “rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump.”

He said his wife turned to him and said, “Well, there’s a man.”

Sasse, it appears, can now count on at least one more of his Senate colleagues to take a stand against Trump.

I'm hearing that the number may even be greater than 4.

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant endorses Ted Cruz
By ELIZA COLLINS

03/07/16 06:58 PM EST

Ted Cruz has snagged a big endorsement the day before the Mississippi primary: Gov. Phil Bryant.

“It’s time for Republicans to join together and unite the party for the good of our state and our nation,” Bryant said in a statement. “I urge my fellow Mississippians to join me in standing behind Ted Cruz tomorrow.”

"I'm not going to get out and make a big show about it, but Sen. Cruz was in town today, and I met with him and gave him my endorsement," Bryant said, according to The Clarion-Ledger. "It was a hard choice -- I know so many of them, Chris Christie, I know Jeb Bush, I know the ones still running now. They are good people ... But I am also looking toward November and I think if Ted Cruz is nominated, he has a good opportunity to defeat the Democratic nominee."

Bryant also commented on Rubio’s campaign, which has been struggling to gain traction after a string of disappointing primary and caucus performances. The Florida senator has won Minnesota and Puerto Rico, and he trails Cruz and Donald Trump in the delegate count.

"I like Marco Rubio," Bryant said. "I think he's true at heart. I just had to make the decision on who I think has the best chance to win in November and who I liked best as a candidate and as a person. Ted Cruz has gone to Washington and showed courage and grit to stand up to things he disagrees with."

“I am honored to have the support of Governor Bryant, who is committed to uniting conservatives across his state and the nation behind my campaign," Cruz said in the same statement provided to POLITICO. "The people of Mississippi are fed up with the dysfunction in Washington and know this is the time for courageous conservatives to unite.”

Trump is widely expected to win Mississippi, which awards its 40 Republican delegates on a proportional basis.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on how Trump deals with protesters at his rallies. Advocating physical violence?!! Is this not making news headlines in the U.S? Isn't this at least incitement of violence? People have been investigated by police for less.
Got to say I'm really surprised that this kind of behaviour is being accepted.

It's disgusting. And now anybody that speaks out about it is labelled a left-wing nutjob.

I don't side with the protestors...but I don't side with the Trumpetts either. Two groups of irredeemable idiots collide.

Now Trump is threatening riots if he doesn't come out of Cleveland as the nominee.

Well I guess strange things happen in politics. I was always amazed at how Berlusconi stayed in power. He was a complete joke, but I think Trump trumps him.

Why.. Cuz he feels he's already won?

Nothing to gain, everything to lose in a debate.

He was able to pull crowd-pleasing performances when it was a crowded stage. If it's just him and Cruz, he'll be required to show more substance...which he absolutely can not do. So now he's refusing to debate.

At this point though, he has to win every delegate through California to secure the nomination outright. We're probably heading into a brokered convention, unless Kasich succeeds in siphoning enough votes from Cruz to make sure Trump wins every state.

Makes sense.. Ty- [emoji41]

I'm not posting this because it makes me happy but because I believe it to be true...

Rubio’s Exit Leaves Trump With an Open Path to 1,237 Delegates

Donald J. Trump’s series of victories on Tuesday extended his delegate lead and forced Senator Marco Rubio of Florida out of the presidential race. Mr. Trump’s path to winning enough delegates to secure the Republican nomination is not assured, but he is in a strong position.

If Mr. Trump maintains his current level of support in the remaining races, he would almost certainly secure the nomination.

Oh well, the world has had its share of crackpot leaders. Hopefully we'll survive this one.

You know, I've never been so interested in a political election campaign, and I don't even get to vote! o_O

I don't think Cruz or Kasich have a chance of pulling off a Hail Mary this late, so there's no point in wasting a vote on either of them. Therefore, in an effort to help the delegate leader get his 1237 and avoid a brokered convention, I'm going to vote Trump this Tuesday at the Arizona primary.

Whether he can win the general is another topic, but his odds are better than someone the RNC pulls out of its brokered hat, like Ryan or Bush.

Voting for Trump will help put him in, voting for anyone else would be a childish waste of time...

I never thought Trump would do this well and looked forward to Cruz or Rubio being on top of the heap by now. Now I'm voting for Trump just to do what I can to get him delegates. The winner can't just have the most votes; he needs that 1237. Not reaching that number leads to the RNC taking over, the RNC taking over leads to President Hillary.
