ATT in general is just so disconnected and confused (wireless, MIS for small business, etc). I plan to purchase through the website for $372. I'll call ATT to make sure that my BlackBerry unlimited data will work with an Android phone, but I don't expect to order through anyone on the phone...I've never had a good phone call with ATT in like 7 years, hahaha

Youll have to switch your BB plan to the Smartphone unlimited plan, but thats it. As long as your upgrading they shouldnt give you any issues with grandfathering your plan into a new one.

Also, Id like ot add for those fo you looking to go the letstalk\Walmart route there is a $25 off coupon code this month when you get a phone with a plan (this includes upgrades). Total came to $83.xx for me with a car charger with an upgrade of my current account. I have to say that this was the best deal that I could find and since when I called ATT decided not to pricematch I went with Lets Talk. ATT has very good coverage where I live so I dont plan on leaving them anytime soon, the 21% service discount (via my FAN) doesnt hurt either ;)......

W00t W00t it finally shipped and is on its way cant say Im upset paying $83.xx for this phone AND a car charger. I had to use my upgrade, but it was better than paying 199 directly from ATT. I did take a look at the "if you do this we will so a charge back" honestly I dont know many people now a days that dont ahve a plan (phone\data\text) on ATT for less than 59.99 a month. I have to say I am happy that my current phone wasnt discoed when the other phone was activated either. Now its just waiting for it to get here :o(

That is my problem with LetsTalk/Walmart and Wirefly. I have the Family Talk 550 min/$59.99 and the minimum plan they allow through them is the 700 min/$69.99 plan. To keep my plan and my $30 unlimited data, my only choices are Costco and AT&T. Amazon does not let you keep the $30 unlimited data.

It's not even THEIR decision, is it? Others have mentioned that they have purchased from a 3rd party, and when their unlimited data was screwed up, they just called up AT&T and bitched and complained about their authorized reseller screwing up their account.

I've seen posts stating that. I wouldn't want to risk it since Amazon would force a new data plan on me and then I would have to call ATT to get it back. With my luck I would be stuck with the new data plan. For all the possible trouble, Amazon is not that much cheaper($165) than from ATT and Costco. Costco is my first choice as they are have a $30 bill credit, no upgrade fee, free car charger, and most importantly give you a 90 day return period instead of 30 days. My other hope is to try and get it no commitment for the $373.

Well, if it comes down to it, you could just return it, and AT&T MUST set everything back to how it was before the new contract/phone.

That is a fallback... PITA, but it's a fallback...
You could also use the fact that the GPS is broken as right-of-return reason.

I see what you mean that does suck for family plan users. have you tried calling them to see if its available through phone? It probably wont work but its worth a shot. This may be something that ATT forces upon them though through thier agreement.

I can confirm that the FAN# does make a difference. I've been eyeing this phone and after reading this thread checked the premiere website for a discount.

I used my renewal already for the IP4 so I don't get a renewal discount at this time. However, my no commitment price is only $225. I may have to bite at that price.

How did you get it for $225? I want one for that price

That's just the price that's available to me with my FAN#. I did order last night (couldn't pass it up) and it was shipped today. I'll have it on 8/5 according to FedEx. Sweet!

At this no commitment price, even if I don't like it, I can sell it on eBay and come out ahead.

I just bought my Captivate for $50 after instant discount with no activation fee from WireFly. There was the shipping cost for next day but not an issue for me as they were displaying it as $100 yesterday. I had no qualms about purchasing their insurance after the $50 break. Hope this helps, I know I'm excited for my phone!

Well my FAN discount is now showing the 372.99 price as well (was 499.99). Crap may just return mine to Best Buy and get this instead...

I just recently bought the Captivate from the Premier store online at no contract for $200 (ATT employee discount). However, a few days after receiving the phone and using it, when I was checking my account online, I noticed a status message saying my account info was not accurate at the time because of an ongoing upgrade process. After calling ATT, they confirmed that by buying this phone I had "upgraded and signed a new 2 year contract."

No where during the checkout process was this indicated, in fact, every single page through the checkout process had "no contract price" on it. There wasn't even an option to choose a rate or data plan (I already had data on my old phone). In fact, even now when I log in to the Premier site, I still see the option for a no contract $200 Captivate, yet the people at Premier insist that when they pull up the Premier site and pricing, they see nothing of the sort. They say it's either $199.99 w/ 2 yr contract or $499.99. They even say that it was impossible for me to buy it for $200 and that the other prices quoted from other Premier posters (above) at $372 do not exist.

I'm currently in the middle of an open case with them to investigate this matter, because they refuse to remove the 2 year contract and let me keep the phone for $200 as advertised. I did not want to renew my contract, otherwise I would have not gone to all this trouble to secure the no contract pricing quoted to me. I just wanted to let anyone who bought a Captivate from the Premier site at no contract price to be aware. You might have also been unknowingly signed to a new 2 yr contract too. Call ATT to check.

1.Take a screen shot and send it as proof.
2.Return the phone(<30 days) and your 2 yr contract will be voided.
3.If you are an ATT employee why can't you fix it?

Haha, I can see chocolatechip calling customer service, then hearing his own phone ring. But yeah, basically, the company you work at, it's relationship with AT&T determines the price of the phone. If they're just using AT&T for a few lines, as opposed to using it for all of it's services/employees phones, then the price of the phone to you as an employee of that company will be more expensive. That's not a fact, but I'm sure that's how it tends to work.

Bump. Need to know what's the best option for me upgrading my phone early, to buy. I can get it on Premier for 379.99 on AT&T, but am I able to buy the upgraded phone via LetsTalk, too? At least for the 200 dollar price without all the rebates?

Hmm, I don't think I'm even eligible for a full upgrade, I'd rather get w/e the noncommitment price is, which looks like 200 bucks. I guess I'll just go there and find out.

If you can find the Captivate for $200 off contract let us know where. As far as I know AT&T has it for $499 no commitment. Anywhere else it anywhere from $499-$599.

A couple of folks have said random AT&T stores have it in their systems incorrectly at $349, but thats the cheapest I have heard of it for no commitment. All the other deals are for new contracts or renewals.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

They pulled the same crap with me too. I bought my Captivate on the Premiere website for $225 no commitment. Yet, the reps say that it was the upgrade price. I point blank asked her how I could get upgrade pricing when I just used my upgrade for the iPhone 4. They couldn't explain that.

In the end though, the rep I spoke with was VERY nice. When I explained to her that I was on the Premiere website looking at the same offer of $225 no commitment she conceded that she believed me but she couldn't verify it. She recommended I take a print out to the AT&T store.

The guy at the AT&T store just laughed at them. It was almost like a joke to him and his coworker. "It say's right here 'NO COMMITMENT' but they upgraded him anyway". It literally took him 30 seconds to reset my account. They honored the price and I kept the phone.

I'm getting it at 372.99, as it says on the site, but that's on Premier. What happens AT&T approaches a company, offers to serve their company, and gives discounts on their phones in return. But yeah, it shows it as "Non-Commitment Pricing." I'll be sure to ask whether or not it restarts my two years again...

Got mine for $99 through ATT.com ($100 off for cust loyalty). I have seen it for $50 through Amazon also. I'm ok with signing on for 2 more yrs b/c there is no way I am shelling out $400+ for just the device.
