Pricing and Release Date in the US...

Thanks! :)

Treb, are you using a screen protector? Local Bestbuy showed that they had the Zagg protector in stock in the system, but the salesman and I scoured the store and could not find them, guessing they are still packed in a box in the warehouse or something. They said to try back in another day or two. I'm a little hesitant to use the S Pen in the meanwhile though. Not sure how the naked glass holds up to S Pen use as I've always had a protector on my Note 2.

No screen protector. They tried to sell me a ZAGG for mine as they were on a shelf right under the display model, but no thank you. I just removed my ZAGG off of my Note 2 & couldn't be happier. Tired of the feel and you can't enjoy the beautiful display that these devices give us w/ the ZAGG.

If you decide to go the ZAGG route make sure you buy the original version & NOT the HD. The HD is too thin & you will have line marks from the S-Pen. The orginal one can support the S-Pen & will not show lines. Alot of Note 2 users learned this the hard way.

DrEx take yourself back to BB and get your 8. If....and that's a big IF a 32 becomes available you'll be saying you're waiting for the 64 then the 128. :D :p

Good to know, thanks for that. I am using a Mime glass protector on my Note 2 and love it, would pick one up in a heartbeat if they had one for the Note 8 but that's not an option right now.

Sounds like the Zagg HD is no better than the cheapo ebay protector I had on my Note 2 for awhile. Once I really started using the S Pen the cheap protector had noticeable scratches all over it within just a couple of weeks. I might just hold off on a screen protector for now and see what comes to market for the 8.

Nah, 32gb releases, I'm right there to purchase. No way I wait for the 64gb because they claimed that for the S3, never brought it over, Note 2, didn't even bring the 32 (let alone 64), then now the Note 8 (despite offering the 32 on the Note 10.1).

What I'd regret more is if I didn't have the patience to wait a month after initial release, only to find out that they release a 32gb version and different color than white (e.g. black or whatever else they end up doing). Now, if they release a formal statement saying that they won't be bringing the 32 over, then I'll go to the store right away and get the 16gb Note 8 or the 32gb Note 10.1.

As it stands, it's too closely priced to the Note 10.1. Some might just go with the 10.1 because it offers a better value even if it is an older model now.

It'll be interesting to see if they do bring a 32GB version. I have to wonder what the pricing for that will be. I can imagine Samsung pricing it at the current pricing of the 16GB model and then dropping the price for the 16GB model. That would make more sense. Otherwise it'll be a hard sell with the 32GB Note 10.1 already priced closely to the 16GB Note 8.0.

Yup. My theory is that, if they do release a 32, it'll be same price as 16 with the 16 dropping lower. I just don't know if there will be a release on the 32.

Samsung needs to have better releases for their tablets. Why not make every version available from the get go? It seems to work pretty darn well for Apple. It's just smarter, because, I'm also waiting for the 32gb black version. I like loading my tablets with tons of hd games, and 13gb usable space isn't going to cut it.

with removable storage, what is the point of loading the device with media? apps and games i can understand, since it IS annoying to wait for them to be recognized after reinserting a card.

i'd prefer to pay less for the device and just buy a flash drive or SD cards for my media, since they work in other devices as well. i don't think it increases the load times an appreciable amount, at least from my experience with the device.

There are certain video apps that require the data to be stored on the internal SD. If you've ever purchased a blu-ray disc with a digital copy, majority of them are Ultraviolet copies and/or some other form that ultimately can be downloaded through Flixster. Flixster still has not figured out a way to identify downloaded files on the SD card, therefore any download can only be idnetified through the internal SD.

Some might say that rooting and tricking the system into identifying the external SD as the source of "internal" storage, but that's not an option for me. Between my work and personal files, I only have about 4gb left of the 64gb card (this is on my Note 2). On top of that, there's only 9.8gb (approximately) of available internal storage on the Note 8.0. The Note 2 had a little more available, but not much, so considering that I have my entire Note 2 internal storage almost filled up...there's no doubt that I'd fill up the Note 8 storage as well.

As for using the USB dongle for flash drives, I find that much less reliable and hate to carry that extra piece around when not needed.

i can understand this. fewer things to carry is always preferable, i agree.

is downloading UV copies through another program not an option? not trying to be a jerk, btw, the internet is terrible for tone. just wondering, since i've never downloaded the digital copies of movies before.

but yeah, if Flixster is poorly written*, and that's your only legit movie source, i can see why you'd prefer the larger one, and i would too in that case. thanks!

*in this respect, i like the app.

That is only one example. I have multiple other reasons. Just wanted to give one big example.

it's only been a day, i haven't had a lot of time to discover any bugs or things that really annoy me yet, but i'll keep you all posted.

after about a week of owning it, still pleased with the experience so far. only additional complaint is WHY THE HELL IS THE MIRCO SD SLOT UPSIDEDOWN? there's a ridge on microsd cards, for pulling them out of the slot. this ridge is blocked when you eject the card from the device. annoying. not deal-breaking, but irritating if you swap cards a lot (and with only 16Gb, ~10 usable, you're probably not going to be throwing a huge movie library on the thing).

I have a Note 10.1 32GB and I can tell you that I only have a little over 9GB of free space left. Only 100MB of it is multimedia. The bulk of it is apps+data. So some will definitely be out of space with a 16GB model. It's also convenient being able to just install and leave on your device and use when needed. Instead of having to install, uninstall for another app, reinstall again after uninstalling another app, etc. It's a PITA. That is what is happening with my Note 2 16GB.

I'm so close to buying a pre-owned 10.1 32gb right now. So difficult holding out, just to see if there's any change to the Note 8 offerings (price/color/storage).

I stopped at Best Buy yesterday on the way home from work and was able to check out the Note 8. I wasn't completely wow'ed by it having previously owned the 10.1 but I must say the size is perfect for me. It was as fast as I expected the build quality seemed on par with my Note 2. I didn't think it felt cheap.

The only drawback is the $400 price tag. As soon as I see it for around $350 I'll pick one up.

I'm thinking if they do release a 32GB Note 8, the price will be higher. May as well grab the 10.1 at that rate.
I'm still getting the 8 next week though. I'm loving the S pen can now be used on the capacitive buttons.

Yeah, like I said I agree it is about 50 bucks overpriced but hey, I just got my tax refund and couldn't help myself. :)

I agree the size is perfect. I like that I can hold it one-handed portrait style with my fingertips wrapping around the edge for a firm, secure grip. Don't think I could do that with the 10.1. You're also looking at a higher PPI density on the smaller screen, so there's that. Build quality does not feel cheap at all, the complaints I've read about the back cover of the 10.1 feeling flimsy are non-existent. Not that that would have stopped me from purchasing the 10.1, but the whole thing feels just as solid as my Note 2, if that matters.

I can't at all fault people for wanting to wait for a price drop though. I think $350 is a fair price... but even having forked out $400 for mine, I have no regrets at all. This thing is boss. Took it to work and my co-workers were diggin it too. :)

Yeah. I was thinking about adding this to my Note collection. LOL. Then saw the price and design of it and, well, was completely tuned out. Definitely don't like the position of the speakers. Also no cascading windows like the Note 10.1. Yeah, it may be smaller, but I can still see it still being able to utilize some cascading effect. Oh well, I'm still happy with my Note 10.1. ;)
