PRL Update For Poor Signal For Incredible..

Okay maybe this was just a fluke, but I went to the Yankee game today and i had a -39 dbm signal while at the game. It was the first time my phone ever showed 5 bars. Is -39 even possible or was my incredible just being weird?

This is because sporting events occasionaly use temp cells to accomodate the heavy traffic to reduce shrinkage.

The OP is just a troll. He is obsessed with the call quality. I have several friends with Incredibles and we have great call quality even if our bars don't show that.

Yeah, he used to stir up all sorts of sh** on Crackberry whining about reception, trying different devices and anything else you can think of and how he was always going to go get an Android or an iPhone, but could do nothing but complain about them as well. He needs to be cut off from technology as there is obviously no pleasing him. Or he needs to develop his own device.

yeah, that may be true. earlier today, he started a thread to say he was going back to the iphone. so hes just here to cause trouble.

btw, that thread was closed by the administrator.

banstick i tell ya

This just in, if you do a *228 and select option 1, at the end of the call, the device will reboot, and a software update to Android 2.1 will be installed on your screen. A new feature will be the Verizon Wireless Teleport Application (VZWTA, as we call it in tech support) You will be able to travel instantaniously to any location on the Verizon Wireless network with a push of a button.

Verizon Wireless - We Never Stop Working For You.

brought to you by a sarcastic VZW tech support rep on his day off reading a forum about how the magical prl update solves all. BS

You're so cool, I need to go get my jacket on...

Brb...

Hey guys, I just posted a better update for the Incredible in another thread. This updates your PRL to include Altell towers that aren't always included in the *228 update. Go here and scroll to my post (#17) for more info:

http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/77406-bad-phon-reception-how-do-i-change-hybrid-prl.html

I tried this and went from average of -98/-101 and zero bars to -84/-95 and 1-3 bars. I never had problems with making calls, I just hope it helps with the battery.

You were probably sitting directly under the tower at Yankee stadium.....being irradiated. You should probably see your doctor and get a sperm count.:p.....(if applicable)

So I updated to a hybrid PRL, noticed a slight increase in signal strength (which turned out to be it simply taking a moment to update once I removed it from my holster), and want to revert it now that I've seen the Alltel map. They have no towers anywhere near me.

Can anyone tell me how to revert to an older PRL?

im in the heart off alltel country in arkansas and it didnt do anyting on our phones, still -98 ~ -104 with 1 bar showing here at home, but as ive said before.. we have no gripes or complaints about call quality and no dropped calls so imo its a bug in the signal indicator and will be fixed later in an update

from post #19.. Note: Doing *228 will overwrite the manually installed PRL to the regular VZW PRL in your area (restore your PRL).

I have been using vzw HTC phones since they came out and every model has always rebooted after doing *228 1 .
PRL numbers differ all over the United States and are not going to change your home reception , they are for ROAMING.
You would have to get an updated radio from HTC for reception to drastically improve.

The only problem is that its not going to help. If you goto settings, about, network, and look at signal strength there you will get a more accurate view of your signal. The range I believe is between -75 and -110, -75 being the best. A rep from HTC said that the signal strength bars don't mean much and you shouldn't pay attention to them while you are not actively using the phone ( on a current phone calll).

I made a signal monitor app, its in the market "Real Signal". Its still basic, but it adds a static 5 bar into your notification bar. You can customize the bar signals too.

Handy for those interested more in what their signal is doing... its not fluffed through HTC's code, its direct signal triggers from the Android OS (API)

So am I supposed to manually do PRL updates or not? I've always done them in the past, but people here seem to be saying that they are done automatically now.

Mine is currently at 51827.

Maybe this will help clear up some confusion. When i first got my Incredible I couldn't get 3G signal. I called support and they told me to do *228 option 2. I was at version 51866 PRL and that didnt help. I went to the Verizon store and the lady there did some trick to change my PRL to 65132. This is supposedly a different "branch" of PRLs necessary in my area because of Alltel towers. Now 3G works great and everytime I do *228 option 2 my phone remains at 65132.

Not quite. GSM phones have their PRL updated on powercycle, CDMA phones do not. It has to manually be done and Verizon recommends doing it once every 90 days.

Answers to FAQs

Mines hovers between -70 to -74 usually. The signal is on par with my Moto Droid and Storm which both maintained very good signals.
