PRL Update For Poor Signal For Incredible..

keep in mind you signal will bounce all over. it can be -77 one second and -70 the next and the phone just sits there. That is just the way the CDMA signals are
 
Okay maybe this was just a fluke, but I went to the Yankee game today and i had a -39 dbm signal while at the game. It was the first time my phone ever showed 5 bars. Is -39 even possible or was my incredible just being weird?

No change in strength. What does work is the holding it by two fingers so as not to cover the antenna...

You were probably sitting under a tower.
 
dont notice huge amount of boost in signal strength (if any) but the signal bars do stay a bar higher, so it may at least help battery life. the dbm fluctuates depending on ur hand anyhow so -95 to -88dbm ^ could just be fluctuations.
 
I updated my PRL a couple of days ago...

PRL now shows: 51866
Signal: -56dB

Previous signal quality in the same location with my BB Bold 9000 on AT&T was -70dB

I'm happy :)

A rep from HTC said that the signal strength bars don't mean much and you shouldn't pay attention to them while you are not actively using the phone ( on a current phone calll).

I'm always in the low -50s :)
 
People need to understand that the r in prl means roaming so it has nothing to do with the signal strength of the phone unless you're in an area where VZW coverage sucks but a roaming partner is better. I'm in NYC so the PRL does squat diddly for me.
 
Does the signal dB even matter? I sit at around -100 to -105 in my house, but I make and receive crystal clear calls all day. Nobody has trouble hearing me either.

We all know the signal bars are nearly pointless. I suggest that the dB numbers are as well.
 
I normally have a -70 db almost all the time.

What you fail to realize is that a PRL update allows your phone to use trusted partner towers(alltel), since verizon's towers may be at a longer distance away. I updated my phone to a hybrid PRL and now have a constant -80 or better signal. I do believe verizon needs to update their OTA PRL to fix this issue.
 
and i went from -64 to -73 within about 1 minute of checking and the phone is sitting on my desk....like i said the signal will jump around, that is just the way the CDMA technology works
