Root PRL update warning

lMonsterl

Android Expert
I updated my prl normally through the menu settings last night. Said everything was successful. However, it left me with no mobile or 3g service with a same prl that i have used prior in the same area. No amount of factory and service menu resets would get the phone to restore the original radio partition settings. LG and Boost could neither help me. Since I only bought the phone 2/19 I was able to get a free replacement from Radio Shack (thank god).

Just wanted to warn you guys to watch for that just in case it happens to you.

It could have easily been fixed by pushing a prl through the computer but they obviously cant do it over the phone with no service. Since I have not been able to successful update a prl manually through the pc yet, let alone find my msl without calling boost (logcat, cdmaware, connectbot, t.e., meid converter, esnchecker didnt work).

My advice is to not try and update it through the phone until there is a way to manually flash through the computer. If not you'll have wasted 6 hrs of your life like i had to today and last night.

What is your PRL now? Mine was 60683, I just updated mine to 60685 with no problem..

Glad you were able to get another phone! Hmm i wonder how that happen!

Anybody wanting there spc/msl code use this guide!

read my post, it said i tried that already. used hex and dec and tried both and they were invalid. I know for a fact because boost told me what it was. Thats only part of the process. Cant get the phone to connect to cdmaworkshop to update it, lgnpst only connects in emergency mode and then doesnt give me what i need.

when it updated it went to 61007, which is an old one anyway. Not sure why

Hmm let me see what i can scoop up on this.. But anyway i don't see why you couldn't update i just did and mine did without any problem!

ive done it before so im not sure why it was the one time. I dont know if it didnt fully download or what the issue was exactly. No one from lg or boost could tell me either.

Same here on the update happened last Friday but I originally thought I screwed it up with done scripts. Returned it and got another

It sucks that you had to go through that. In the future, you can manually switch your PRL using the instructions below. I can verify that these work with the Marquee. The trick to getting CMDA Workshop to recognize your phone is to make sure you have installed all the LG driver packages (there are three for the Marquee), and then dial ##7678# to get into DM mode (don't reboot). The next time you plug your Marquee in it will install drivers for the virtual COM port you need:

I'm surprised they didn't give you your MSL when you called about the problem. If the guide 903TEX posted doesn't work for some reason, you can always call Boost and tell them you want to do a factory reset and they should give you the MSL without any hassle.

Here are a bunch of PRL files you can try:

I hope no one else has to deal with this.

Changing the prl was not the issue.the prl remained. I used cdma and tried changing to every sprint prl and back to the boost prl. The issue is that the update somehow messed up the radio, at least that is what lg told me.

i bumped this thread since people are still having this problem

Monster, I'm been using CTmod 3.6.8 and have been getting weird 3G Data problems. The data would sometimes just stop all of a sudden after leaving the phone alone; the 3G or 1x icon would just totally disappear even though the reception shows 2-3 bars. Also, it may sometime happen after I disable wifi or I leave my house and wifi goes away but 3G never kicks in. Only way to fix it is to reboot the phone and that doesn't work some of the times either.

I'm on Sprint so I'm not sure what's going on... not saying it's related to the ROM or kernel. By the way, I'm not doing anything crazy in terms of clocking, just the typical 300MHz to 1.1MHz range. I didn't have this issue with with the official ZVC. It could still be something's not set up correctly on my phone.

Anyways, I noticed blood put some 3G tweaks in /system/build.prop; I removed those tweaks and thus far 3G data is good ... will need to run a few days to see if it's anything related to those tweaks. I removed the following in build.prop:

net.tcp.buffersize.default=6144,87380,1048576,6144,87380,524288
net.tcp.buffersize.wifi=524288,1048576,2097152,524288,1048576,2097152
net.tcp.buffersize.umts=6144,87380,1048576,6144,87380,524288
net.tcp.buffersize.gprs=6144,87380,1048576,6144,87380,524288
net.tcp.buffersize.edge=6144,87380,524288,6144,16384,262144
net.tcp.buffersize.hspa=6144,87380,524288,6144,16384,262144
net.tcp.buffersize.lte=524288,1048576,2097152,524288,1048576,2097152
net.tcp.buffersize.hsdpa=6144,87380,1048576,6144,87380,1048576
net.tcp.buffersize.evdo_b=6144,87380,1048576,6144,87380,1048576
net.ppp0.dns1=8.8.8.8
net.ppp0.dns2=8.8.4.4

and changed the DNS to use OpenDns servers (I heard people said they're faster in resolving hostnames)

net.dns1=208.67.222.222
net.dns2=208.67.220.220

CTmod is awesome except for my weird 3G data issue. I'll need to see if 3G is still good with the above tweaks removed.

Yeap Bcareful updatin PRL. Thanks to cjreyes I was enable to fix mine ....what happens I mess with the roaming menu. And later I hit Prl update that disable. That screws my network services...

I don't understand any of the things you are all saying to do to fix this, but I apparently just had this happen an hour ago. Pllllleeeease...can someone assist me in how to fix this PRL problem?

Try going in to your settings and enable roaming. Then try updating your PRL again.

what you have to do if you have no service on boost is to force the phone to roam in another carriers network thats why you have to turn on roaming in your phone you wont be charged for it but it will take more than one try to get it to work if you are running any custom rom its under settings.

Thanks for correcting me on that one. I misread the others post and told her the wrong fix. I've since changed it to the correct one. Well, atleast I hope it works.:D

Automated MSL from Boost. Thread by Khorosho. http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-prevail/581439-boost-mobile-gives-away-msl-automated.html

I recently was calling in to troubleshoot my prevails PRL issue, I ran across an automated option for retrieving the MSL code.

Call 1-866-402-7366 (dont call from your cell phone as the prompts wont automate)

*Press "4" for troubleshooting
*Enter ten-digit boost mobile number
*Press "3" for troubleshooting
*Press "1" to accept your number playback
*Press "5" to reprogram your phones Data and Voice Services

Here comes the automated walkthrough have paper and pencil ready.

*Enter your 4 digit pin code.
*Press "4" to move to next step until it says your MSL code.
(its roughly the second or third step)

This method takes about 2 Minutes and doesnt require root or apps or debugging modes. If you simply want it this is how to get it. Also it does nothing over the air to your phone. I have done this multiple times to program friends phones.

WARNING: This automated process is to do a SCRTN Reset. this wipes the phone number and activation from your phone. I don't recommend this if you are fine with your services. SO DONT ACTUALLY DO THE STEPS ON YOUR PHONE. Just listen to the Prompts.

Hope this helps those that still want the MSL and cant stand talking to outsourced Reps.

Have a great day.:)

thanks for this thread. i cannot get any service after prl updated to 60687. have been roaming for 1 week. now flashed with 12123 prl by dfs, and i have not bad signal - was worse before

good look, monster! thx man! i should've mentioned im rooted running zvc-stock rom brw, if that even matters.

I had this exact problem a week ago after an automated PRL update. I couldn't get any data connection (3g or 1x) even though the bars were full. The only way I could get internet on my phone was via wifi. I found out the problem, at least for me, had nothing to do with the PRL. Here's how I fixed it:

I'll preface this by saying that I'm running the stock rooted ZV4 boost firmware. This may work with Sprint, CTMod, or unrooted Marquees as well, but I'm not sure. First back up your apps and data. You need to use an app like Titanium Backup rather than CWM recovery, because CWM will make a backup image of the entire system, including the glitched configuration that's keeping mobile data from working, so use Titanium backup or Go Backup, or something of the sort. After I backed everything up (which you do need to do, because the next step will wipe the entire system), I used the Sprint reprogramming code ##786#, and chose "Reset Default". It then asks for your access code, which is your MSL number. I assume most people know how to obtain their MSL, but for those who don't, here's the method that worked the best for me:

Rather than calling Boost to get this number, I installed aLogcat (via Wifi) from the play store, then went to the dialer and entered ##3282#, then I chose "Device Self Service", then selected view. After this, I opened aLogcat, hit the menu key, chose Filter, and typed "msl" and hit OK, which tells aLogcat to search its log for the phrase "msl". After this, I get back a line in blue text which reads "D/InfoItems( 1560): Msl is filled as : ******". The six *'s will be your MSL number. I think this method is a bit quicker than calling boost, and it can be done straight from your phone without using a computer and CDMA workshop.

So after you've got the MSL, you enter ##786# in the dialer, as I mentioned before, and choose Reset Default, then enter your MSL. This completely resets your phone, and for me, it brought back my 3g data connection. I then used Titanium backup to restore all my apps and settings, and my phone was as back to normal. I hope this helps!

Good look dude! If the manual PRL update doesn't work, looks like I may have to use this in the future.

Update: at 4am, I woke up with my head on my keyboard (passed out trying to fix this shyt) and i said eff it and wiped it out with CWM and did a fresh install with CTMod 3.6.8. All works PERFECT now, except where i stay (with my step-grandmother) is like 2 miles from a cell tower, so reception is TERRIBLE and ONCE IN A WHILE i'll walk into just the right spot and BOOM - i'm in international roaming. I'm still gonna do the manual PRL push as monster suggested though. Thank you all for all your help! You guys have been like Guru's to me as i'm a noob to all this and have done pretty damned good in my opinion, thus far. Hell, I've got friends offering me $$ to root their phones! Thank you all again! Jah bless.
