Root Problem with Gmail Contacts Sync

Previously posted to "Troubleshooting", but rooted with UnrEVOked: could this be a problem due to rooting.

Gmail contacts on my EVO will not sync with my computer although messages and calendar sync without problem. Get message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly." The last Contact sync was in December, but Gmail and Calendar were sync'ed today! Any ideas/suggestions about the problem and the fix will be appreciated?? I have tried manual "sync" - he help.

I would first try and wipe data and cache of GMail in manage applications, then reboot phone. Then resync everything.

You also could try uninstalling GMail entirely, reboot phone, then redownload from the market
