Root Proof: Jellybean upgrade

yea i dont see them giving us the kernel source. theyre not very good about that at all. but maybe if enough of us complain after it gets released they will

So, Hypothetically, lets' say, JB is rolled out for Sequent. How does a notification arrive? This would be a first for me.

And who, would be able to receive, an Over the Air (OTA) upgrade.

1) Only stock, un-rooted?
2) Only stock, rooted?
3) Any ZTE Warp Sequent, that boot's up?

I'm on bo9, and of course rooted, and as late as yesterday, tried Settings/System Updates/Update Firmware, ... as usual, nothing available.

So, IF ... we get a shiny new updated Jelly Bean for this phone, anyone know HOW to get out of the way, in order to receive it? :)

You will need stock recovery. Won't matter if your rooted.

I have recovery on the sd-card from loooong ago.

So, is this a matter of timing it just right, (during an open-time-window that an upgrade roll-out is announced)?

Or, stretching into infinity, any time you feel like doing the download?

Also, when the recovery is flashed, and the update is than available to download,.... that seems like a monster, (some of the ROM's we have here have been huge, so I've grabbed them with the PC, than USB'd to the sd-card, what would you expect an upgrade be in size?

Thanks Guy's, I knew you'd be all over this stuff. (my first go-around with smarty-pant's phones). :)

Use Junkies tool to put stock recovery on. Its much easier.

You will receive the OTA notification, and when you do, then put the stock recovery back on and install it.

You can install it anytime. As long as you are running outdated software (B07/B09), you will constantly get the notification to update, so you can download it and install it at your leisure. ;-)

i call zte spoke to rep in spanish way better to understand he told me that jelly bean is under testing with the sequent to make sure works fine with the phone he also told that and update will be in the near future of course jelly bean

Last month, when Boost Mobile listed three handsets that are upgradable to Jelly Bean platform on its website and than changed its mind, ZTE Warp Sequent was included besides LG Venice (over-the-air update to Android 4.1.2 already available) and Samsung Galaxy Rush. Since in the email from Boost Customer Care, “other phones” not a phone are mentioned, it’s expected that additional Android 4.0 handsets will be upgraded to Jelly Bean. We’ll see pretty soon, from today May 16 to May 23, which handsets, in addition to ZTE Warp Sequent, will be upgraded to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. cut from prepaid mobile phone reviews.

is that the same prepaid news site that said the updates were coming, then said they werent, then said they were again?

Boost thinks they're slick lol. Customer rep on phone said expect the update in the next week, and when I said "great so it IS coming" he tried to cover it and say "if". Smooth one lol..

They're also ignoring the question when I quote the email posted earlier (omitting the name) and ask which "other phones".

theres still a possibility it wont happen. you all have to keep in mind boost has to rely on zte to make this happen. so dont get your hopes too high. also how many of the people working there do you actually think know what the hell theyre talking about? some tell you its coming, some tell you its not, im willing to bet money not a single one of them knows for sure kuz the only people high enough in the chain to have that info would never talk to us

and that prepaid phone reviews site is just rumors and crap, same place that said it was coming, then said it wasnt, then said it was, and all the "articles" are written by the same person known as admin
