Pros & cons: Htc incredible vs evo

AMOLED vs TFT, big difference

Generally, if you have 4G where you live, Sprint has adequate coverage and you're okay with the much bigger size (not width). I don't see why you wouldn't get an EVO.

Otherwise, rock on with your Incredible.

Carrier discussions are useless and stupid.

I completely disagree with this comment. In my opinion the carrier discussion is the most important part of the equation. We are looking at mobile phones not PIMs so the number one criteria for me is will it work where I need it to. For me personally, Sprint doesn't have coverage at my in-laws (or 10-15 miles around it). If there is anyplace you need your phone to work it's at the in-laws!!! I'm not there very often but if my phone didn't work there I would likely kill myself.... to stop the pain......

It all depends on where you live, work, and travel. Every carrier is strong in some places, and weak in others. User experiences can even differ within the same city, since tower placement will vary.

This is true and it does make the carrier discussion much harder to quantify but the carrier discussion is still important.

My Incredible call quality is incredibly poor.

Interesting, my call quality is outstanding, that was the first thing I checked.

Also, I'm sure the EVO will be a great phone but I got rid of my Palm 650 because it was a freekin brick and it seems the EVO will weight about the same or more and will be even larger. EVO has nice phone specs but I'll take my Incredible. I can drop it in my jersey back pocket without a problem when I hit the road for one of those 30 mile rides.

The EVO is a beast but I wanted to start my NE2 and was sick of my old LG Dare, just couldn't wait any longer so that's why I have the Inc. I have no hate for the EVO or Sprint as it'll add competition which is always good for the consumer :)

As good as the Incredible is, the Evo will probably be a better phone. As others mentioned, the lack of reviews make it a bit more difficult to make the judgment. Sprint's network, while much better than it was, is not on the same level as VZW. That will be the biggest downside. Someone might be able to correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Sprint leases network time from VZW. My understanding is that if you are a Sprint customer on VZW's network time, you only get 2G, not 3G. There are others on here more knowledgeable than me on this, so perhaps someone else will chime in on this point. If you are willing to give there, the Evo is probably a better device and the service will be less costly as well...

Personally, I love my Incredible and am very happy I got it. I love VZW's network as well, so I wouldn't switch.

Sprint can roam on verizons network but not for 3g data.

Verizon coverage is clearly better than sprints.

Customer service cant get any worse than Sprint. I had many horror stories about them.

The evo is clearly meant to be a step up from the incredible and therefore a better phone.

If you can live with lousy sprint and don't mind the plan get the EVO.

I bought the Incredible already planning on moving to the EVO as soon it was released. After using the incredible for a while I think i will be staying with it, not because I think the incredible is a better phone, it’s not, its but just because it’s not worth porting my number cancelling my commitment with VZ.

I however will not start telling myself that the extra features/gadgets on the EVO are dumb and talk myself into not wanting them just because I can’t have them on my incredible just to make me feel better about owning the incredible.

Most people in here are gadget freaks and want every feature they can have on their phone.

The two things I want the most on evo is the 720p recording, extra memory and the kickstand. Yes I know some people think the kickstand is stupid but then they run out and spend 30 on a dock to hold their phone up. I would like the dock to be built in and free. My imagio had it and I used it way more than I thought.

Really the biggest difference is screen size and network. The screen size is a plus for some and a negative for others.
Sprint is not as bad as people think but yes Verizon does have more coverage and their customer support is usually great.

I like it when people say the evo is like a tablet sitting in front of them and it’s just barely 5% bigger than the incredible.
my .02 cents worth anyways

I love my Incredible.

I would probably buy the EVO if it was on VZW. WIMAX isn't vastly faster than current VZW 3G speeds, and wouldn't be worth the extra $10 a month for me, but you have to get it.

Thinking about making my own homebrew kickstand.

My Incredible call quality is incredibly poor. Verizon can't replace it because the phone is backordered until after my 30-day return window has gone by. With the volume of complaints about call quality, I am not certain that a replacement phone will resolve the issue, and don't want to lose the ability to return it. Other than that, it is a fantastic phone. If I didn't have to make voice calls, it would be brilliant.

This is the only reason I started looking at the Evo.. although I am sure the chance of the same radio being used is very high.

I am in the SAME boat as you.

I just got off the phone with Verizon with this exact same issue. they said that when they ship the new one it will restart the 30 day time frame for returns you should call them and demand this as well. If they don't give it to you let me know so i can verify that they are indeed doing that for me and it wasn't some rouge tech just making claims.

AMOLED vs TFT, big difference

I'm glad someone mentioned this, because I deliberately left it off my list of pros for either phone. Each screen tech has unique advantages and disadvantages such that neither is obviously superior.

The Incredible's AMOLED screen is bright, more power efficient, and displays better black depth. However, it is barely usable in sunlight, and it has a noticeable pinkish hue.

The EVO's screen displays a truer white, and is usable outside. It uses slightly more power, and it does not render black shades as crisp.

Having used both techs recently (Incredible, Storm) I'd say its a very close call. The AMOLED screen is probably better in normal usage, but the inability to use it in sunlight is an real nuisance.

Also, to every knocking my listing of the EVO's kickstand: learn to laugh a little bit. Obviously no one buys a phone because of something like that. It is interesting to note, however, that there are people who clearly miss the absence of a kickstand on the Incredible:

I have a friend that works at a sprint store in Merrillville IN. I got to see a demo of it yesterday. I gotta say it really has a wow factor to it when you see it. I had it in my pocket for a couple minutes wearing jeans and was thinking it's just too big. I wanted to cancel my contract with verizon for this but I don't like holster cases and I personally would not be happy carrying it around. It's just my opinion. On a positive note it was loaded with the movie trailer avatar and the picture was fabulous. Overall I am sticking with the incredible but you really need to see it to know if you will like it as it's a big phone yet has the in your face factor many will like.

Coming from the Droid which had TFT I actually prefered the TFT screen more. Except when it came to battery life, that is where i noticed an benefit. when i used my droid for awhile the screen was usually at the top of battery usage. On the incrediable its always at the bottom.

I knocked the kickstand when the imagio first had it and until Iused it a few times and now I really miss not having it.

I am guessing the people that are knocking it have never used one before.

Look, I think its great that Verizon sticks a tower in every Bubblefrick on the map. People who live in Bubblefrick should be able to use cell phones (or "Devil's Walkie-Talkies" as they call them).

I however, don't care because I'm not going to Bubblefrick .... ever.

If you are buying the EVO for 4G, hope you are in an area that has it and forget about using it once on the road (unless within the city's area that has it). By the time 4G is covering their entire 3G area, the "EVO 4" will be out with even better stuff ;)

I have used the HD2 and own an Inc, so at least appreciate a few things:

1. Unless you have big hands/long fingers EVO will be hard to use for one hand operation and VERY easy to drop if you try. Be careful ;)

2. Touch sensors on the HD2 are inferior in response time to the Inc. Perhaps updated for EVO?

3. 1gb rom on EVO is actually weaker than the Incredible. Inc uses the 512mb rom for the OS and stock apps and 748mb for app storage (this is why only 6.6gb free for built-in). EVO will probably have less storage, out of the box. My guess is 100mb less.

4. 1500mah battery is offset due to the bigger screen. No advantage.

5. 1500mah is way too low if you plan on using 4G much at all.

6. Data and calls at same time is only for 4G, which is sparse coverage, at best.

The biggie though is the network itself. 4G is only partial coverage in the cities it currently is in and their 3G coverage is a small fraction of Verizon's.

Things to look for with EVO users:

1. Battery complaints in 4G areas
2. Touch screen responsiveness (if sensors not corrected from HD2)
3. Heat complaints when outputting a real 720p signal to an external display. The formfactor is too small to cover the needed heat dissipation for 720p.

Dude, you are obviously pro-Evo and pro-Sprint, so why drag this thread out? You are going to get an Evo on Sprint. We are happy for you.

Thats why VZ costs more to is because they have to pay for all the towere that are in bubblefrick. Good for the people in bubblefrick but bad for the people that don't because they pay higher prices to support having the towers in the middle of no where.

I live in the middle of no where so I am happy about it :)

Thanks for paying for my towers guys!

My guess on the touch response part is that WinMo 6.5 never truly supported capacitive touch and HTC made its own interface to get it to work. the evo will not have this issue.

I'm not sure if this was directed at me, but if it was, you're way off base. I stated above that I own the Incredible, which I bought the day after launch. I also stated that I will be buying the EVO and testing it also. I don't see how that makes me pro-EVO. I'm giving both phones a 30 day trial run.

Also, I'm not pro-Sprint either. I've been a Verizon customer for about 8 years, and I'm generally quite happy with the service. I've never been a Sprint customer before in my life, although I will obviously have to open a line of service with them to test the EVO.
