Pros/Cons of HTC Rezound vs. Galaxy Nexus

Gnex owner but HTC/Sense Lover here. I have always loved HTC phones and swore I would never change. But the Gnex got me! When i finally got to go buy it I saw my first real live Rezound. That phone is nice. I love it. And not only is it NOT fat but I think it's real thin. I couldn't beleive it when i saw it. Sense is great, i don't care what anyone says. It's almost impossible to not like it. It's widgets are UN-MATCHED, period!!! I have been trying to get my Gnex to be like all my former HTC/Sense phone with little luck. nothing in the market compares to any of the Sense widgets, nothing!!
The mail client, the calender, peep, etc can't be duplicated. And I must say iI miss them real bad. The Rezound is one bad A_ _ phone.

So as you can tell I love the Rezound. With that being said I love my Gnex also. It doesn't have half the problems you hear about. I am the most nit picky phone person on the planet. If a notification doesn't do what I think it should do, I cry about it.

But I have the Gnex pretty close to what I need. A few things are missing but liveable. To each their own. Neither phone is better. Neither phone is worse.

The ONE and only reason I can't leave the Nexus is the screen size. Once you go that big you can't go back. Plus once you have on screen buttons it's hard to go backwards also.

So my advise is if you have the Rezound stick with it. You are missing nothing. But don't try a Gnex because a few of the little things will make it hard to go back.

Just my opinion. and by the way my signal is perfect. I get the exact same reception I did in the exact same places as I did my T-bolt. So unless the T-bolt reception was garbage (which I know it was not) the Gnex is fine. Batt a little better than the T-bolt and great on 3G (as good as can be for a smart phone i should say).

Both are great. But if they both had ICS and on screen buttons i would jump on the Rezound in a second flat.....

P.S. the speaker volume doesn't bother me either. I have never had a phone with a good speaker. Especially the T-bolt with the kickstand in the way. The Incredible wasn't much louder either. they were all almost unusable to me (on speaker).

[/CENTER]6]does your 3g/4g work well for you in your area? I just got this phone last week and I work at MCRD near old town. The internet connection seems to go slower there and I don't know why.

Im prior military and bases always suck. Works great in my area and around MCRD. Well, I never did a speedtest at target or the strip club but never noticed any change.

Have you tried go launcher and beautiful widgets? I had a droid charge n missed the hell out of sense. Widgets n the little things like the ease of uploading multiple pix to fb n tagging. Here's my "initial review/first impression":

I love this freaking phone! I had fearswhen deciding which phone I would purchase while researching. They included battery life, build, stability, camera, and how much I would appreciate it compared to my old incredible. I loved the inc but didn't know how i would feel having another htc sense device considering I felt like I was shelling out more money for a device I already owned (-4g ( have 4g on my charge,tho...)).

Well, no more fears! It's a fresh feel considering how responsive n quick this is. Battery life is better than the Inc and the charge. Build quality is great. It's got some weight to it but it fits. It feels right in my hands. The charge felt too light for its size like their was nothing but plastic, air, and battery. The iPhone reminds me of a piece of sheet metal. The rezound feels like it should n likeit looks. Im glad I'm backon anhtcsensedevice.I rememberhow I felt when I switchedto the charge; "oh, damn I cant do this /that anymore". Now, I have everything back I had to get use to not having plus everything the charge had. The camera is ridiculously good.No more ghostpictures(extremelywhiteand/orblurry)!

Best phone I've owned and the only phone that met my expectations without sparing anything.

At home, my Thunderbolt never got 4G. My 3G speeds were 2-3 Mbps. On the Rezound, 4G mostly always (except real foggy/cloudy days). Download speeds 10-15 Mbps. I can see not noticing a difference in signal strength from the Thunderbolt to the Nexus. Going from the Thunderbolt to the Rezound, the signal strength will probably be the measuring stick for all my future 4G devices going forward.

Oh shit, son! My girl just went there yesterday! Hook it up!

My work party has been there the last two years.

Rezound rules!

Oh really? Haha!

I can probably work something out, what did you need?

That's cool about your work party! What is your company if you don't mind me asking?

I will message you if i decide to get my daughter a pass. I'm imagining a mod sitting at a filthy computer desk, eating Cheetos, with steam coming out of his ears just waiting for me to reply off topic...

Secret Lover & TxGoat, thanks

Yes, i have tried EVERY widget there is. Some are good but still not close to the Sense ones. Thats why i don't like when people make fun of Sense. Yes touchwiz and Blur are awfull.. I have used both and can't stand them. But HTC got it together. And Sense doesn't lag the phone like people say what so ever. And i never thought my T-bolt got that great of reception (and you just confirmed it for me). But i never lost calls or anything.

but I love the Gnex and like i said, if i didn't get it first i would be a fellow Rezounder. I just don't like people making fun of it because I know it's a great phone. And the Gnex is also.

They're both a good step up from the Thunderbolt that's for sure, especially if you had problems with your Thunderbolt as I did. I'd say both phones have a lot to offer, especially someone enjoying 4G for the first time (granted Verizon's outages probably don't make a good impression). The sad part is these phones aren't going to be the flagship for much longer as the rumored quad-core devices approach public release. The good thing for the Nexus crowd is with the signal issues being more of an engineering design issue and not so much a Quality Control issue, you guys may have a way to get out of that phone when the quad-cores hit.... haha ;) :p

The only quad-core phones releasing within the next 6 months are Tegra 3. Snapdragon, Exynos, and OMAP are all releasing dual-core models using new CPUs (A15 and Krait) while Tegra still uses last year's A9. Tegra 3 has a lot of real muscle behind it, but due to the limitations of multiple cores and diminishing returns (almost no code runs 100% efficient in parallel), these quad-cores won't show a real performance boost anytime soon, although the GPU is still nice :)

The real upgrade will be the A15-based quad-cores that come out in 2013 (and the quad-core based Krait in late 2012). Until then, today's dual-cores are still relative beasts.

Is the screen really bigger on the Nexus?:

razr-nexus-rezound-screen-brightness.jpg

Nexus in middle, Rezound right, Razer left. It is a bit wider. But there is alot of wasted space IMO, including both screen and entire phone itself. Expecially the soft buttons on the bottom when you get back to the home screens. I went from the Nexus to the Rezound and felt like I had more screen space with the Rezound.

Just what I thought when i went from my nexus too. Proof is in the picture though. Look how much more of the page is visible on the rezound. I am really surprised and impressed with this.

I believe i read earlier that the home button and that on the gn is part of the screen like honeycomb so statistically the screen is bigger but the screen real estate is smaller. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The person who did that screenshot has the Rezound's browser set to full screen (hides the notification bar). It's a subtle trick that certainly helps make the screen look better. I'll have to try a Nexus again, but I could have sworn that you could tap the "chin" to hide those soft buttons. If that is the case, between that and the notification bar, you'd get more space.

Regardless of my "if" statement on the soft buttons, it's obvious that they set the browser to full-screen on the Rezound, which means that it was clearly or accidently done to favor the Rezound over the others.

The page zoom isn't the same across the three browsers, so it's not completely a fair comparison to look only at the web content shown. Using the rectangles in the center left of the displays as a reference point, I get the Nexus using about 9% more horizontal space to show the same content.

But if you consider that he put the Nexus in the middle, that's favoring it even more. He should've alphabetized them which would mean the Razr should be placed in the middle, Nexus, Razr, Rezound. Then again he could've put them in order of release date in which case the Rezound would be in the middle: Razr, Rezound, Nexus. Or he could've just based it on 4G signal strength which it would've put the Razr in the middle again.....and the Nexus 3rd of course.

my post is mostly sarcastic by the way because you guys are discussing differences that are practically negligible. The screen size advantage of the Nexus is lost when the on-screen buttons appear for navigation. During video playback you'll gain back that real estate, but the amount of size you'll gain would probably have some people saying, "I'd rather just gain the extra size going from a phone's screen to a full 1080p HDTV".

The nexus hides the onscreen buttons when watching videos. It is bigger but in reality the added screen space isn't dramatic enough to be a deciding factor IMO. I think most will agree people are buying the gn for an unadulterated ics experience.

Oh, anyway to keep the resound to show the status bar when web browsing by default? I hit settings to get it to pop down if I receive a text.

Because its a discussion about what this thread is intended for. Not a big deal, and actually, the point of these forums existance.

I very much wanted a GN, but when I compared the form factor of it with the Rez, I liked the Rez much more. The GN was too wide for my small hands. ICS is nice because it's fast with its hardware acceleration, but the interface didn't impress me. I like the Sense or GB interface better. I think GB just needed to be skinned/theme bluish and add hardware accel.

Like others have said, the Rez's screen makes better use of the phone's space than the GN. It looks GN has a lot of wasted space on the surface of the phone, that bugs me.

I hope softkey buttons don't go away, I find them very useful. I don't want the buttons hidden when watching a video. The Rez's screen with more vertical space has been very useful to me. I like web surfing and being able to see more. Also when using the keyboard in portrait, I can see more of the app I'm in, helps a lot in IM apps.

I am a Rezound owner. Purchased it about a week before the GN was released and seriously considered exchanging the Rezound for a GN but my conscience wouldn't allow me to (I know you can but didn't feel right about it). Now that the Rezound has been unlocked by the HTC Devs I absolutely love it.

I am in a poor reception area typically and have had no issues using the Rezound at home or as a mobile hotspot. I do not have high speed available and the Rezound is my home internet service as well. Works great after I changed the modem settings to Rev. A (no 4g available either and 3g was getting axed under the factory settings).

The Rezound was not half the phone it can be when it is first purchased. It had a lot of bloat on it and needed some definite tweaking. But all of that effort has been well worth it. I am as happy with the Rezound as I have been with any phone I have ever owned (some listed below).

Atrix
Atrix 2
Iphone 3gs
Iphone 3
Several Windows mobile phones 2009 and prior
A couple of Treos
Several blackberries including the Storm

I currently have no regrets I did not wait for the GN, I am very happy with the Rezound. I expect to use it for a longer time than some of my previous phones.
