Root Public Mobile

To clarify, Boost B09 is not really an "update" to PMI B07. While 9 is a bigger, later number than 7, they are both ICS 4.0.4 and the sw version numbers are different because the carrier is different. You should use the one that works best for you ;)
 
They all work the same now with the exception of b11. Lol that is, no mms on any of them even stock PMI 06. It's doesn't really matter anyways I'm not planning on staying with Public, at the end of the month this phone will only be used with my Wi-Fi at home.

A quick question, I'm a complete noob so it might sound dumb, but can the n861 be unlocked and than perhaps get mms working? Idk I'm just throwing out ideas. Thanx for all the help here.

I really don't know why your mms is not working. If you went all the way back to PMI Stock B06 partitions and rom, it should work. Have you tried updating your profile? System Settings > System Updates > Update Profile

edit: You probably would want to be on PMI B06 or B07 when you do this. The profile would likely be different for Boost B09.
 
Yeah I meant profile sorry but ya they don't have that either I don't think so lol good news is that now in a month I can switch to the superrom and not have to worry about no network
 
The public mobile b07 is in fact a revision of the boost mobile b09...it is newer...it is a downgrade not an upgrade... as long as you use the Public mobile partitions(firmware), you should be good with the exception of b11 which requires a firmware that is not available to us...

Where do you get this file from? It contains the cefs partition and partition.mbn.. how can I flash it? I have a n861 that is stuck in the qdl mode

Also IIRC you posted a file that had the extraction of the OTA update from boost n861 from the tmp directory? I can't find that post now..

  • eMMCBLD.HEX - a boot code to upload in phone memory in order to be able to flash, this file is MPRG7x30.HEX (M for MMC device, PRG for programmer, 7x30 for CPU type) renamed (the e is because we are in emergency mode).
and the emmc_recover and pbl tools

so I just got the n861 from public mobile it comes with ics 4.0.4 will this root work for my phone ? the build is ICS_PMI_N861V1.0.0B06 I this helps in new to the hole rooting thing
 
smartmanvartan posted his setup somewhere. I believe he was using a modified version of Wi-fi Tether for Root Users. If you look around you can probably find his post.

Can somebody help me out? I want to install publicmobile.apk but all it does is fail. I want to get back the info portal a.k.a PM Download Store. I have an old backup which I extracted the app from. I tried installing Siren Music and it worked fine so I uninstalled it. the "publicmobile.apk" is 5.63kb and it's odex file is 1.89kb. Am I supposed to merge them or is there something im overlooking? I wanna check if they have anything interesting for download.... Yeah.... im bored...
 
But then how do I access the download store? I spent like 3 hours yesterday trying to understand what the hell it is I can spend my wallet money on. -_-

Did it used to be a system app? If so it won't work unless it is again so with root just push both the apk and the odex file to /system/app then set permissions properly(should be the same as the other large majority of system apps.) and then just reboot the phone. :)
