Root Public Mobile

No. Just do as I instructed.

If that does not work (i suspect it wont, honestly), then you will have to use stock recovery to flash the update.zip. But you MUST have stock recovery. Will nto work in clockwork mod recovery.

junkie2100's tool will root/install clockwork mod recovery. You dont want to do any of this yet. Just get it updated first.

I say dont root and custom recovery because i am not 100% that clockwork mod recovery works on the PM n861 yet.

The first post on this thread has all the info...yes the recovery works and instructions are in the first post..there is even a stable room I'm writing on...;)

Good to know that cwm works on the PM n861.

So after he gets updated, we can get him cwm and root and he is good to go.

Is PMs b07 the same as the boost b11? Or do you guys not have 4.1.2 yet?

I can't send or drag the update zip file to the phone SD card from my pc.
I think this forum is too advanced for my level.
Should I have downloaded from the link straight to my phone?

Sorry about making a mess in the thread. This is getting a bit out of hand with the hand-holding necessary here, eh?

No we have ics and because the partition update for the b11 includes the radio, we can't run b11 without having the flickering screen issue... I'm working on a work around in the background...

Your not making a mess..that's what this thread is for... when you plug your phone into your computer, set the phone to ''mtp''...that will let you put files directly on your sd card. Only put the file named ''update.zip''. Then unplug the phone and go into the settings menu to perform the update. :)

It wouldn't go in so I unplugged phone and replugged in and pushed MTP again but no go.

PM was quite antagonistic. Might they have disabled my phone?
Other files drag and drop.

Edit: Ok, I put it in a new folder and dragged it over and it went, asked "copy to root of SD?" and it went in.
Now the phone mulled that over a while turned off and on and....waiting...
now my home screen opened asking me to choose apps...went to update, and still the same B06

Sweet. Would be nice to have any rom be available for every device.

So you guys could run SuperROM an we could run anything you guys cook up.

Did I need to drag the stock ROM into the phone SD also?

No not the phone storage...on the ad card is where it goes...the mtp media transfer is always a little tricky.... what version of Windows are you running? The page you found the stock room on in the ZTE website, it also had the drivers...it's called ''dev... b11'' that might help...

i dont see any update zip in extreted files i download stock rom extract all files then try found update zip i dont see so any other way to update stock rom bo6 to bo7

I found that using the mirror site you get the file with the update on it. From the ZTE site link though, you get a choice of two downloads, so I used the mirror site.
I still don't understand.
The phone behaves as though it got changed, it re asks me to choose apps and so on but it's still B06 anyway.

i even try all that mine phone is also b06 not b07 anyway i think pm not any officially update software that,s why still stays b06 but i got questein what difference between b06 and b07

Is that menton of "ad card" a typo? If it's not phone SD card, then I'm really mixed up.

Yes that was a typo...sorry about that...the link to the stock Rom(not the mirror) is the link to the zte n861 page on the zte website...it has the manual, the drivers, and the stock software...but you have three tabs...the stock Rom is under the download tab along with the drivers...the Rom is labeled b05 on the site but it is actually b06...and I assure you both I have tested this abd it does update to b07 after you run the software update application...

I just went thru the process again and it went without a hitch... :)

I sent the files to the phone SD card.
The drivers, the update, the thing from Junkie.
Still nothing after update. B06.

Should I have done something with the drivers or with Junkie's file?

Is there maybe some actions that you do that the ignoramii don't know from the instructions?

The update file has been doing something every time.
The phone shuts down and reboots and takes a couple of minutes, then comes on like it's new and the finger pointing screen comes up telling me how to choose some apps.

My previous settings such as display sleep, are put back to default every time I try the update, too.
So the update zip is definitely doing something.

yes the stock rom is b06... i was telling you to do it so that you can try the software update app afterwards. it should check for update, find one and ask you if you want to download it... then it will ask you to reboot... once that's done then it should say bo7 in settings->about phone:... as for the drivers and jubkies tool, tjose are for your computer not your phone...they dont go in the phone :)

Thank you.

I have 2 zip files now on my phone SD card
One is the update zip and the other is the xxxxx642 zip file.
I run the software update app it checks and says up to date at B06

Am I to do something on the pc with any files or folders first? Install drivers, run junkie's download, something like that?
Am I to keep USB connected to the pc when I run the update software app?

Thank you!

Yes. Install the drivers on your PC first. Then install the ZTE Software update tool to your PC.

Hook the phone up to your computer. Verify that media transfer protocol is active. (The phones internal memory and your SD card should both pop up.) Once you verified that, unplug the phone from your computer and run update.zip. (Either on the phone through settings->about phone->software updates->update from sd card, or through stock recovery.)

Once the phone reboots, DO NOT go through the phone setup process. (Finger touching screen.) Leave it booted, but hook it up to the computer. Once the phone is hooked up to the computer, on your computer run the ZTE Software update tool and check for updates. It should find b07 at this point and ask you if you want to update.

Say yes, let it, and you should be good to go.

DONT do anything with junkie2100's tool right now. It does not belong on your phone. Its a PC program that only lets you root/install clockwork mod recovery.

Ok we don't have the software update tool for public mobile.it is only for boost.. we have an apk called software update.. it is the first time we have ota for our phones. Really to get up to date you should only need to go to the software update app. But some people are having difficulty with this... it shouldn't say your up to date if your build number is b06. That is strange.

Junkies tool is a Windows application he made that makes it really easy to install a custom recovery. And the drivers are for Windows too. The only zip that goes on your sd card is the ''update.zip'' you did that a few times correctly as you where saying and every time your settings would be reset..right?... the strange part is that it said your up to date after the first load...
