Root [Q] Velocity App2SD integration for LG shine plus (c710), is it possible?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed that there's a nice little community for the LG Ally. I've seen the Velocity ROM and I like the concept, but I'm kind of scared to try flashing this ROM to my girlfriend's LG shine plus. Both phones are very similar spec wise, but I doubt everything will work.

What I would like though is to know if there's a way to incorporate App2SD to our current LG shine plus ROM, as it is pretty much lacking in that area (Disk space is as limited as the Ally)

Can anyone help me with this? What libs are needed? I've done App2SD on many ROMs off my HD2, but then again those ROMs had integration of App2SD already.

Thank you for your help!

An Ally ROM will not work on Shine. I do not believe any custom ROMs are available for Shine yet.

There are a few a2sd scripts by some people on xda-developers that can be imcorpterated into most custom roms.

Thanks for that, I've actually found a script in the Xperia X10 forums that mentions it should work for all phone types, I'm slightly reluctant to try it though. That's why considering the LG ally is similar to the LG shine plus, I wanted to know if there was a standalone App2SD method for Ally users. Since it's not really my phone, I don't want to mess it up, you know? ;) My girlfriend would kill me!

Thanks for the help!

TO use a2sd you need init.d support (the ability to run custom scripts at boot time) I don't believe any stock rom has this built in.

Also. Dont go messing around unless you have a recovery, or a way to restore your phone if something goes haywire.

If you upload a nandroid backup of the LG Shine Plus, I'll write in apps2sd support for you.

Get me a nandroid back up and i can get you a basic stock rom with apps2sd support.

EDIT: Just saw Trident beat me to it.

Hi guys,

I appreciate the help. Here's some work that's already been done by a few people for the LG shine plus, you can get some images there:

http://androidforums.com/shine-all-things-root/231498-custom-roms-shine-plus-finally-here.html

If you require an actual backup of the phone which is different than what's on there, I'll have to get back to you as it's my girlfriend's phone.

Thank you!

Also, if you know of any features that could be easily implemented to help overall performance of the phone, that'd be good too. (I really have to get into android modding more, haha)

I can upload the nandroid of my phone with dsi's custom rom on it, if you can use that? I just have to wait until I'm at school on wifi, cause I only have tethering here at home and for some reason it doesn't want to upload the nandroid. I'm trying to fight the urge to upgrade phones, and I really need more space for apps, among other things to keep me happy with this phone.

I tried to upload the boot and system image files from the nandroid backup but the boot.img comes up as an invalid file and the system.img just keeps trying to upload forever. I'm not sure what is up with that.

I've spoken to a few people, we need a kernel dev to help us with the LG Shine plus if we ever hope of seeing App2SD or any other development on the phone... The LG shine plus Nandroid and custom ROM (modded by kitchen) is on the LG shine plus forum if anyone is interested in helping...

but, is there kernel source out there too? that's what is needed or else a kernel dev has nothing to work from.

Has LG published the kernel sources for this phone like they're supposed to according to the license agreement they signed with google? They SHOULD have but many phone companies are slow to get this released...

Old thread rebumped, I'd want something to happen with this if possible. ;)

Here's a link to the open source project for the LG Shine plus (AKA C710, AKA Aloha) source code:

Open Source Main

Enter Mobile phone as a category and search for C710. There seems to be code there.
