Question about multiple launchers.

Ok, I like the sense widgets, but I much prefer the LauncherPro+ launcher, and I can live with LP+ widgets.

When I install LP+ and I hit home the first time, it asks me if I want to use Sense or LP+ to go home. And if I don't check the box for default, it will always ask me everytime I hit the home button. I ran that way for a while, so I could really compare the two. I had Sense and LP+ both set up with all 7 screens loaded with widgets and shortcuts, and folders, and I just kept switching back and forth. And in the end, I am leaning more toward LP+.
Now if it were the newer sense like what comes on the Thunderbolt (which I had for a little while) I would go with Sense. But it's not.

So my question is this.
If I have facebook , calendar, weather, battery, and various other widgets running on both Sense and LP+, isn't that a huge drain on my CPU and battery? Because isn't it updating, and running two sets of everything at once?

Now, if I go with Sense, I can just uninstall LP+ and I know it's not doing anything in the background. But if I go with LP+, I can't very well uninstall Sense. So how do I know it's not doing anything? Because it seems like it's just always running in the background ready for me to switch back to it.
If I just make all the pages in Sense blank, does that do it?

Because, even if I prefer LP+, if I think it's slowing me down by using it, I'll just go with Sense.

i had the same question, i never found a true answer, although with multiple launchers installed, i never leave more than one running at a time, since with titanium backup pro you can freeze apps with root. I ran LP+ over sense for awhile, and truthfully that is what it is still doing. Sense is still running, LP+ is just running on top of it. Because all of the functions of the phone are tied into sense like messaging and the browser, sense never quits running. The widgets on sense may still be taking up resources i dont quite remember, but i never really noticed a decrease in battery life or performance while running LP+ and sense, but every phone is different.

Well that is the main thing for me. Honestly LP+ just seems to respond faster, snappier than sense, even though it is running in conjuction with Sense. I don't know how that is possible. But it sure seems that way to me.

Thanks for the the response.

I did find a battery drain so I changed sense to a blank scene. Don't know if it worked or not but it didn't hurt

Wouldn't it be better to root and install a vanilla rom and, then use launcher pro?

Maybe, but I am not going to ROM until the last official OTA update happens, even if it's just a Sense update.

After customizing LP+ for a little while, I remembered why I liked it so much on my Eris.

Is there any non-root app that will take screenshots?

Removing any widgets on the Sense screens would go a long way towards making sure that the Sense screens aren't draining battery while you're using LP.

It's been a long time since I played with LP, I used it for several months when I had an Eris. That was primarily because it was so much faster than Sense, I see less of a need for it on the DInc. However I may have to give it another look just to see what's changed since I last used it.

It's strange to me how when you go to LP+ it's like a totally different phone.
Theoretically you could have 14 screens full of widgets and shortcuts if you didn't mind swapping back and forth between Sense and LP+. You could even dress LP+ up to look like Sense, and it would be really be like having 14 screens. But anyway.

I did delete everything off of all of my Sense screens. So when I go to Sense, it's completely blank now.

I like LP+ mainly because of the actual Launcher. I love having three scrollable rows of shortcuts across the bottom of my homescreen. I can put all my most used shortcuts on there, and that frees up the homescreens for big widgets, like my calendar, music player, facebook, etc. And I don't like having any shortcuts on my main homescreen. I like having the clock, weather and battery widgets and that's it.

I haven't rooted my Inc yet, but here is a pic of my Eris, and my Inc is setup pretty much the same way, except my Clock/weather/battery is all red now to match my Speck case.

Wow, after looking at that picture again, my Inc is much cooler looking. I may have to root just so I can do a screenshot. lol
