Root Question about ROMS

This may sound stupid and is totally a newbie questions, but I just rooted my phone about 15 minutes ago. Now I wanted to try out one of the ROMs so I downloaded Unrevoked (I think). So the question is how do I open/install it?

I downloaded a ROM Manager, and I ran the setup. All I get from my phone now is the cyanogen mod screen with a little blue fire going around and around. DO I need to do a reboot?

You said you already rooted the Inc but then you ask about installed a ROM with Unrevoked...

Unrevoked and Unrevoked forever are simply tools for rooting your device in the first place.

Downloading Rom manager was a step in the right direction. If indeed you are rooted you should have made a nandroid backup and also should have probably backed up all of your apps using Titanium Backup. I am guessing you probably installed Rom Manager and just downloaded and installed CMod willy nilly without wiping data/cache. You may have done it right though. First boot always takes a long time after flashing!

Alright, my first post is completely wrong and makes no sense. Let me start over.

I rooted my phone USING unrevoked. Once my phone was rooted I used a ROM manager to install Cyanogen. However the first time I tried it got stuck in a complete look of the opening screen. After about 30 minutes I decided it was looped, and since I followed the directions and backed up my original ROM, I just restored my old ROM. I tried it again and this time it loaded up (Super cool), however I could only set up an exchange account. From the original site I guess that I am supposed to download the optional google mod, however the link is bad. Also I had no ability to use any apps/go to store to get apps.

So now I restored it (again) to the original ROM and I don't know what to do to get the full ROM.

Should I just try a different one, or should I try a different link to get a "full" ROM?

You can get Gapps through Rom Manager in the Cyanogen section. (called Google Apps (Froyo).

However, I hate loading Roms OTA so if it were me, I'd get both CM6 and Gapps from here, place on SD card, boot into Clockwork and load both from recovery:

Gapps we want is HDPI version located way at the bottom of the page on the right. To install, wipe data, clear cache and under "advanced" wipe dalvik cache. Then install CM6 only. Let it boot up the first time. Power down phone, go back into recovery, load Gapps. Done.

Otherwise, skip it and try a Sense based Rom. Then you can forget about the Gapps stuff. I can recommend Myn's Warm 2.2 as my Rom of choice although I haven't tried the newest version b/c I'm still on an older build that works perfectly.

+1 for Myn's Warm 2.2. I have RLS4 (newest release) on my phone and it's very stable and fast. The mods and themes available for this (and all EVO based ROM's) are almost overwhelming. It seems like you're not a sense guy but if you do decide to try a sense ROM I highly recommend Warm.

I like Skyraider Sense 3.5 myself. MIUI is a fun ROM to play around with too. If you are still confused let me know! Have fun flashing ROMS!

Short version:

Do it all over, but download the Google apps this time too.

Long version:

I think it's best that you just get the ROM you have now up and running. Get comfortable with installation, and then worry about finding that perfect ROM.

As iowabowtech was saying, your problem is that you didn't load the Google apps, also called gapps, to your phone. Google doesn't allow devs to include Google apps in their custom ROMs. As a workaround, devs include links to the missing gapps hosted on separate servers. ROM manager will list the gapps alongside the ROM downloads themselves, but they are still a separate, additional downloaded.

I think your best option would probably be to start all over. I know you've already done a good part of the work, but I think it's best that you do it all from start to finish. It's not hard, but it'll leave you feeling more secure.

Go to Download ROM in ROM Manager and choose to download the latest stable release of CyanogenMOD, just as you did before. This time, though, select Google Apps as an additional download. Once both are done, it'll ask you if you wanna backup and clear cache. You don't really have to back up since you're running on a recently backed up copy, but you might want to anyway. Your preference. Definitely clear cache, though, and let ROM Manager take care of the rest. When you're done, you should have a good, clean, fully functional ROM.

i got the same thing u gotta wipe your fone boot in2 recovery and u will c it there. MAKE SURE U DO A NANDROID BACKUP B4 U DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!
