Root Question about Upgrade Path to 596

Hi All,

I'm currently on APEX 1.4.1 with 340, rooted, deodexed. From what I understand, I have to SBF back to stock 340, and then use method 2 from P3droid's and TBH's thread. Will this keep root, deodex, etc?

Thanks

Sbf will take you back to stock .340. There'll be no root, no deodex, no not'in'!

Going to .596 will get you root/dedex or odex. Whatever you want.

Enjoy!

I understand that, my question is regarding the interpretation of P3Droid's instructions here:

Official DX Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Release Thread - Something for everyone

From what I understand, I have to

-SBF to 340
-Re-root with Z4Root
-Use DROID 2 Bootstrapper and install those two files from method 2

I'm just trying to verify that my interpretation of his instructions are correct.

Good now that you have read above the you are ready to proceed.

1. Your phone must be in the following condition before you can use the patched updater.

1.Your phone is running the 2.3.340 official Froyo Firmware
2.Your phone has been rooted
3.Your phone is using the Droid2 Bootstrap program (Do Not Use DroidX Bootstrap)

Sorry, yes, that what it ^ says. Good luck. :)

Good to know. A lot of people don't post their successes so we never find out if it was resolved.

A few questions from a first time rooter:

- When rooting with z4root, do I need to do a permanent root or temporary root?
- At what point will I be presented with the option of installing a odex'ed or deodex'ed version of 596?

permanent...

you will be presented with the option after you download the files you need, put them on your sdcard, and choose to install them

Permanent root only means you won't have to root every time you pull te battery or reboot. You can always unroot by going back to Z4 and choose "unroot".
With the GB release, if you're rooted, you're rooted, for now and I'm not sure there's a way to unroot, but who really cares about that anyway?

because somebody thought that was a good idea, they are the right ones, that's the set of files I used this morning and they went right in.

Thanks. I got it installed and working. Now trying to figure out how to get control over the notification bar background color and icons...

Changing the notification bar and color requires editing some files in either the systemUI.apk and/or framework-res.apk. I haven't done any theming with GB and the newly added systemUI.apk.

I am currently on ApeX 1.4.1 and plan on upgrading to GB .596 when I have the chance. I just have a couple of questions about that.

After SBF'ing to stock FroYo .340, if I flash the 2-part zips, will I be on the official GB .596? Also, is the 2-part zip odexed or deodexed?

the two part is rooted, but I'm not too sure about deodex, Bouchigo has a deodex patch that works, so its not really an issue

yes you will be on the official OTA. And several people in P3's OP are saying that it is odexed.
