Root Questions About Link2SD--Optimus V

You will need some kind of file explorer. Popular choices include File Expert, Androzip, ES File Explorer, and so on. Quite a few to chose from, but they all work in similar fashion. With the explorer, navigate to /system/bin (it will be obvious once you start) then look for su. Long press on it, you should see a context menu. Chose properties, and let us know what the permissions are. These directions are paraphrased, the actual steps, and names might be slightly different.

Hey, guys, been out all damn day, didn't anticipate that. I'll download the file explorer first, then go back and reread the tutorial. You know I'll be back!

Okay, so I installed ES File Explorer and finally found su. It says yes, it's readable, but no for writable and hidden. Are those the permissions I was looking for? What is this button labeled "show checksum"? I haven't clicked on it.

Hidden? It should say something like rwx r-x r-x. That's the format of what we're looking for. The checksum is something else entirely, no need to mess with that right now.

No, don't see anything like that. When I first saw it, it asked me how I wanted to open it and options (text, audio, video, image). I'm just sharing that to make sure I'm looking at the right thing.

Okay, got that rwx thing to show up by going into the settings of file explorer, then changing the permissions. I actually saw this info in another thread, so I'm glad I wasn't alone with that issue. Now my permissions read rwx r-x r-x. I feel like I'm on my way! Still nervous about the whole "resizing" and creating FAT files per the Link2SD tutorial.

Haha, you're right about that! Can't believe I've come this far, but even before I started, flashing the custom ROM seemed like it would be more difficult for me than the actual root. All the help from everyone who responded truly is appreciated. Think if I'm able to, I'll start the Link2SD stuff tomorrow.

When I go to resize the partition, what am I putting in to the "unallocate space" before and after, like what numbers? I see where I'm supposed to leave 1-2 gb free, I just don't know how to fill the allocation stuff out.

Occupy Free Space, lol! I just realized it's in MB, the before and after unallocate. Does it matter? Do I just put in 1 MB in both of those spots, the before and after, I mean. Getting a bit confused here, sorry. I majored in English, I don't do well with numbers.
Off subject, when I plugged my phone into my PC, for no reason at all, "Nowhere Man" started playing, and I haven't listened to music all day! Occupy The Beatles?!

Yeah, Ben, I didn't change the unallocate space before and after, they both still say 0MB. Am I changing the actual partition size (7576.00MB), and if so, what am I changing that to?

Try making your partition 6576 MB, that will leave you with 1000 MB (which is 1 GB). I usually place it at the end.
If you want to occupy the Beatles, how about Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band? I mean the whole album, not just the song! ;)

When you say you place it at the end, do you mean where it says "unallocate space after" or am I just changing the 7576.00MB and that would automatically show up in the "unallocate space after"?

We could occupy Sgt. Pepper or The White Album or Revolver, can't decide which one.:)

Yes, allocate after.

How about Magical Mystery Tour? Honestly, pretty much any Beatles after '66 is going to make my day! :p

Do you know how long this process will take? I'm truly supposed to be doing something else, bad girl! So I'm going to change my partition to 6576 and see what happens.

We can also Occupy Abbey Road then, whoo-hoo!

Ha, love it, brotherswing! Well, I'm going after it in about five minutes, so I kinda hope you guys are still around in case I blow something up.

I did the reboot before, but don't know about recovery. Even though the phone says there's no sd card, it can see when I take it out! What did I do wrong during the partition?
