Root Questions About Link2SD--Optimus V

I'm five minutes from bed, but try putting the card back in the pc, then run the partitioning program again. Not to make changes, per se, but to see if it reads the partitions you've created. If not, just try again. I won't be able to help much more tonight, it's almost 2AM here, and the wife has a 9AM doctor appointment.

Ugh, clearly I screwed something up. My phone still doesn't see my card, but when I put my card onto my PC, it sees all. I think I did the partition wrong, just don't remember what I did. Will I have to erase my card and start all over now?

You know, you can always partition your sd card from the recovery. Much simpler and easier. Just select the size you want and let it do it's thing. That's how i did mine. That way you know the partition will be recognized by your phone.

Riggerman, I don't get the recovery stuff. It was late and I was tired and I don't remember what I did, but perhaps I didn't make the partition a FAT file. I might cry about the loss of progress in Angry Birds, but I backed up everything to my computer as well as my sd card. I just want my phone stuff back!

Yeah, Ben, I think that's what I forgot. Can I go back and resize it again, or do I have to erase my sd card and start all over? Wish there was a screen shot of this process!

Yes, you can resize it again, and even change the filesystem. Although, for best results, your best bet would be to delete all the partitions, and create new ones that are the right size and filesystem. Look at it this way, every Angry Birds level is easier the second time you play through!

Well, you don't have to, but if you choose to follow my advice about removing the partitions and starting over, that will be the net effect.

I never said that was required, it's just that in my experience when you have trouble with partitions, sometimes it's better just to start from a clean slate.

Eh, now it's saying my card is damaged. Man, I must be denser than I thought! I'm tech support for my family, maybe not after today! I guess I'm in denial; my phone just asked me if I wanted to format my card. Guess I'll have to now, huh?

Wait, wait! I rebooted my phone and ran Link2SD, and now it's asking me to select the file system of the sd's second partition! Ext2 is already highlighted, am I going with that? I'm not touching anything else until I hear from you guys!

Well, since ext2 didn't work out, the phone suggested FAT32. I selected that and am now rebooting. Whoo-hoo, I think it's working out, guys! Now it's showing me what I can move to my sd card. From here, I'm looking at the Link2SD tutorial. So after all of this, can I get rid of the bloatware? My main reasons for rooting and such were getting rid of crap, getting a bit more space, and perhaps improving battery life. I'm going to check this out and get Angry Birds back! Any and all help is so very appreciated, couldn't have done it without all the help.

I guess my question now is can I get rid of the bloatware? I'm not going to use the UberSocial thing or Where or Poynt. Eventually I'd like to use another browser, like Dolphin HD; didn't have the space for it before. Would I need to flash a ROM first for either of those things? Also, the good news--I didn't have to start Angry Birds all over again, yay! The sorta bad news is I have to put my music on my phone again, no biggie. I can't deal with the VM ringtones!

For ringtones I recommend the zedge app I've used zedge for years on other devices and the app is awesome. You don't need a rom but it will help you get everything out of your device possible.

Hmm, I'll check out the ROM stuff a bit later, I'm excited for that too. I'm using Ringdroid right now, but might look into Myxer or something that will use my WMA files as ringtones. As far as the bloatware, I think I'll back it up and get rid of it, at least the ones that are safe to remove.

Upon further review...another question/issue. I'm in the process of putting music back onto my sd card, but unlike before partitioning, I can barely put songs on there without quickly running out of space. What's going on? I thought I would have more room after partitioning. I have to have my tunes, haven't even gotten to The Smiths yet, a must! What can I do about this if anything?
