Root quick darktremor questions...

Are you using setcpu to change the speeds of the device?

Nope. Not installed. At this point, I don't try any oc "funny stuff" on her phone anymore.

On MikG v3.0 we started with lithid's aggressive then tried more-freedom then less-freedom, ratcheting down to find a reboot'less setup. Which the less-freedom may have gotten falsely blamed, it might be worth checking again, as I'm pretty sure instability at that time was caused by lack of space at that point.

So now we've moved on to new sd card, a2sd with new rom version, and new kernel (again, MikG v3.11 w/ anthrax). I might be changing too much at once.

Perhaps I don't know where to set the bar. 3 or 4 reboots a day seems high to me. But I've never used a rooted/rom'ed evo as my daily. Do you evo root users expect that many reboots?

I hardly ever get reboots. I get one every now and then on a fresh install but I can't recall the last time I had one on a stable Rom.

My dads phone on the other hand used to reboot all the time in mikg. Anthrax helped it but he hasn't complained about it in a while.

Tommys classic or some other rom made for our phone might help that issue out

but that sense 3.0+ lockscreen sure is handy. ;)

we've never tried Mik3d. but given that it's is not as popular as even MikG, that might NOT (edit, whoops) be heading in the right direction.

well. I guess before I totally beat this thread to death, I should ask:

What would you say are the top... two or three roms or rom/kernel pairs that are known for rock solid stability? sense roms are not necessary, I think she got along fine with launcher pro back in the htc hero days.

I appreciate everyone's help.

Tommy's Classic & MikG are probably the top sense ROMS. Some enjoy SOS as well but I have no experience with it.

Decks cm7 build is solid but I've never ran it. MizzouBrentis our resident AOSP king so if you're looking for that I'd ask him :p:D

Jumping on xperts post.

paully - none of the ROM / KERNEL combo's are a Science. Its really an art to get things the way we want them. Everything we do is a YRMV situation. I have been having real good luck with the Nitrous ROM and Anthrax Kernel. Even though at point I'm on a stock kernel. I live out in the boonies so I don't expect to get great battery life. Tommy's Classic is another good ROM that I have had some success with. Even the Last Stock based on the Last update runs really good on my phone. This is an area you will have to just keep plugging at until it works the way you want it. Also understand that other apps could be causing the issues

I appreciate the encouragement.

we may have to give Tommy's a go, although first I'll let this combo (mikGv3.11, anthrax) mellow for a bit. kernel's are strange creatures indeed.

I was worried about the app's. on our last go (mikGv3.0, lithid's less-freedom v0.9, which really does deserve another go), we did a complete fresh installation of all apps, and I deleted TB's data from the sd. I thought something in there may be draggin it down.

If I can jump in here, I have to say (and mizzoubrent will back me up) that decks 1.3d is by far the smoothest and most stable aosp. I absolutely love it. Love. It. Add tiamat for a kernel and you'll be golden. I don't need to use any memory tweaks/ram tweaks, the Rom size is tiny (compared to sense) and it just never lags, reboots or gives me any issues.

for what it's worth...

here's the observations. the MikGv3.11/anthrax combo rebooted a couple of times, that first morning. the it ran great for like 30hours. but last night and today, the force closing during phone calls has been pretty bad. many.

after looking at how she sets up her launcher, she won't miss sense. there's nothing there that beautiful widgets and android agenda widget can't provide.

we're goin vanilla! gonna give deck's 1.3d/tiamat a try. i'm still digging to see if these two are darktremor compatible, do you use it?
