Root Quick PRL Swap in CM7 (updated 4/5)

I did lock onto an Alltel tower, digital roaming, 3g, no voice/MSM. At least I'm assuming it was an old Alltel tower. It was unknown to Open Signal's data base and all of the Sprint and Verizon towers in my area are in there. It was and old Alltel prl. Data was no faster so no biggey.

It's possible, in some geographical areas it *may* get you on other towers, that Sprint had/has arrangements with

Is there an easy way to flash the PRL?
 
Anyone have any issues after using this. it did allow me to flash new PRL but now the signal strength is ALWAYS on -120 and I can not send text
I have tried multiple PRLs including my original. any ideas?

That sounds like you have evdo only. No voice either, I assume?
 
No voice is tested and working I just can't send or receive text It;s not
VM my wife has them too hers is working. actually data seems good if it text was not broke I would leave it as is. I may go back to stock reflash the old way and see if that fixes it

OK... that was weird I checked the network settings it was set for CDMA/EVD0 I changed it to CDMA only my text went through immediately
and signal metter dropped to 96dbm and I had 1x data. Then switched back to CDMA/EVD0 and everthing is working now... seems to be a glitch I found. any way wanted to let you all know in case someone is as lucky as me LOL

Is there a way to get the MSL code without switching back to stock rom? I'm on CM7 right now. Tried MSL Reader from the market but to no avail =/

No. No known way. CM7 dialer won't do the needed dialer code.
As you found out, MSL Reader is for HTC devices.
 
omg how come I can't find my COM number? My drivers won't seem to install? Do I have to be stock ROM then plug it into my laptop to install the drivers? I'm on CM7 and it's not showing my phone under Ports =[

EDIT: NEVERMIND. When I plugged it in while it was in recovery mode and restarted, it found the drivers. weirdddd THANKS for the guide!
 
Thanx, this is so sweet. Prl changes in less than a minute instead of 15+ minutes swapping roms back and forth.

Ok, I didn't come up with this (kyouko did) but it works.

You still have to have your MSL (stock ROM, run alogcat, filter for sec_code, dial ##33284# , enter 000000 when asked for MSL, read your real MSL number from sec_code line in alogcat log)
Write it down and you won't need to flash back to stock anymore to swap prl files.

I was finally able to get a new prl on my phone just now thanks to this thread. After placing the new prl...the phone quickly rebooted and when it finished loading it stated digital roaming for a few secs and then that went away. I did notice an extra bar and cant wait to test to see if the signal has improved. Again, thanks for creating this thread!
 
Having a problem getting the MSL from the stock image. When I'm getting prompted to put the 000000 code it's not taking. Any help!?!?!?!?

I was unable to get my msl code, used my recovery back to stock or so I thought...never could get msl...Read how to take back to stock, but I do not want to lose my activation...How do you use the files to take back to stock and not lose activation. Glad to see can make changes in CM7. Help appreciated.
 
I typed in "000000" and it said it was wrong, I tried again and it shut down my phone. What gives?

Edit: Nevermind..forgot to run aLogcat
 
Hey, I have my MSL and QPST sees my phone and I can select the new PRL (11115) but when I chose "Write to Phone" my phone just reboots and the PRL is still stuck on Version 61007. I even used Terminal Emulator to enable Diagnostics. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Well, your phone automatically reboots everytime you write a different PRL but I'm not sure why it's not sticking.
