Help Radio Interface Resource Shortage

S-Off is something exclusive to HTC phones. Basically once you unlock the bootloader at htcdev it allows you to flash recoveries and roms without issue, however having s-off which stands for security off allows you to flash unsigned files to your bootloader and install kernels through recovery and also change your radio file. When you first root the phone it's basically only half unlocked, with s-off the phone is completely unlocked allowing you to flash any partition with unsigned files. Just remember that with greater flexibility comes greater responsibility because you are now responsible for everything that you flash, there's no longer a safely net protecting you from yourself so get in the habit of reading everything twice before you start flashing away. Sorry for being so long winded, gotta chill with the 5 hour energy. :D

They are completely irresponsible and are not fixing the issue. They acknowledge that there is a "radio interface error" problem but that's about it. When the signal goes missing, it also affects everything else, including using the web and making or receiving phone calls. I have been calling them about this problem since I bought the phone a few months ago. At first, it did seem as if they were working on it. However, months later, still nothing, and all they will tell you to do is the basic "remove battery - ##clear - factory reset - fiddle with switches on your account on their end - last resort send you a refurb phone" over and over.

It doesn't seem like they are working on anything. The most I got was a small amount credited to my account. They never paid for a full month, even though I've called enough times to set a record for "most calls to India in a month."

They also don't acknowledge that the "radio interface error" affects anything other than texts. When I explained that I am not receiving 90% of my calls, and my signal goes to -120 every 10 minutes, they said they were not aware of this being an issue.

Since I'm not receiving any calls, I figure it's about time I finally do the "turn your phone into an Evo 3D" technique. If that doesn't work, it will be time to let my cool 3D phone go. That's basically your only option, don't count on them releasing a fix.

This has nothing to do with the area you're in, btw. I'm in an area with superb coverage and it makes zero difference.

I concur. Even in areas with fantastic signal (solid 6 bars all the time), I can't get reliable service that is even close to what I was getting with the Optimus V on the same Virgin Mobile service.

This is just getting silly now.

Functionally it's pretty much the only issue with this phone as opposed to my last $300 Virgin flagship, the thankfully inimitable Motorola Triumph. :banghead:

I have to admit, the fact that I can't reliably use voice calling or text messaging pushes this device darn close to the Triumph that I owned.

I don't know what to do about this now. It wasn't so bad before, until I tried the ##CLEAR# thing, and it just went downhill from there. I've tried restoring, I've tried flashing different roms, wiping, flashing all of Leslie Ann's pri/prl's etc. again, nothing works.

Now the message pops up like every time I wake my phone. Don't know what to do.

The ##CLEAR# thing is the story you get when you call Virgin Mobile. Of course, it doesn't work, but it passifies the user for a few minutes, with desperate hopes that it might actually fix Virgin Mobile's problem.

I think I've found a fix. Do the following (I also just made a thread about this fix to help people see it and verify if it works for anyone else as well)

1. Start the Phone app.
2. Enter "##25327#" (this is ##CLEAR#)
3. The EPST menu should come up. Tap on Menu, then tap Reset.
4. Your phone will reboot, reactivate itself, and update its PRL. Then your SMS bug should be gone.

If only that worked!

Yeah that's old news now...now we know the only way to fix the phone is through Leslie Ann's S-OFF thread.

There is a fix for this in Leslie Ann's S-OFF "turn your phone into an evo 3d" thread. It takes hacking and time, but if you want a fully working 3D, it's the way to go.

Ok so I complained to both VM and HTC about the HTC Evo V's radio interface errors.

After complaining about how expensive the phone is and how crappy the service is and how their "fixes" don't work - I got an email from someone saying this:

Fatima,
I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, but on November 14th there will be a software update for the “Radio Interface Resource Shortage” issue. This update will fix the issue. In the mean time you can follow the steps below:

Click the Phone icon and enter ##CLEAR#.
Click Menu > Reset. The device will re-boot. Service will be re-initiated

I understand you have done this multiple of times, but if the issue reoccurs you will have to continue to do this until the software update is available.

So there's gonna be a software update that will fix this?? That better be the case because I'm fed up with this phone and I haven't even had it for a week.

thats good news and thanks for posting that... but virgin mobile has pushed out updates trying to fix this in the past and we still have the problem so dont get too excited

It actually depends on where you live and your signal, i've had my phone for 2 months now and i've gotten that error twice or 3 times but always in the same place and i didnt have signal.

I would put money on that being another Virgin Mobile pile of crud.

I have been working them via email now for weeks trying to resolve their issues (texting and voice problems), and there has never been a single mention of any kind of fix on the way. They just keep repeating the same stand-on-your-head-voodoo-bull over and over again.

I will give them this one thing, although they do nothing to improve the service, they are remarkably courteous and generally friendly when they respond that they aren't fixing the problems.

I travel quite a bit, and I have received this error in so many different circumstances and locations that there is clearly NO connection whatsoever between location, towers, or signal strength. It happens everywhere under all conditions with the device I have in my hand, even when connected to my wireless LAN at home.

Do you find it at all ironic that the date of the fix that they gave you in that email is probably just outside your return window for the phone to get a refund?

I can tell you this, if I was still inside the return window for this device, it would go back immediately.

Why are you bumping all the radio shortage threads? :p

Hi. My first post, plz be kind. :)

I have had the error in the past, tried the junk they told us to try, it worked for a while, til it didn't anymore... just like everyone else.

Today it happened, and I got through to tech support (so I was told), and after explaining the error, he told me that an update will be sent to the Virgin Mobile EVO 3D 4G phones between November 14 (today) and November 16 2012, and that this update will fix the error.

Just putting that out there.

[I've had mine for two months and am very happy with the service (especially for the price), and the phone would be awesome if not for the error.]

I started to get this error today and started to get a bit pissed. Every time I would try to send a text my signal with go to zero bars and this error would pop up and keep popping up until I rebooted.

However after logging into my Virgin Mobile account, I soon realized i forgot to pay my bill and my service was turned off. Weird thing is I could still make and receive calls and use the internet just no text.

After I paid them, no more Radio Interface Resource Shortage and all is well with the world again. :)

Now that the update has gone out, is the problem addressed? Regardless, does the root process have to change to take this new update into account? I am considering rooting and doing the 3d thing, but will wait to see how this update affects things.

Yes, this fixes the issues.
It does the same thing as the "fix everything/Evo 3d" in that it replaces the PRI and radio. It's suspected that HTC just sent us the latest Sprint PRI and Radio in a new package.

The ota also has very minor system update, but it's not noticeable, it's the radio and PRI that are the problem. Regardless of doing pretty much nothing, the system update has already been incorporated into Harmonia anyhow.

Leslie, along with most other folks, I haven't seen the update appear on my phone. I've attempted to "Check Now" through the Software Update selection in System Updates, but there is not update available.

Is there a place in the phone settings that one could go to and see the current version and compare to whatever this updated version is, just to know that the phone has been updated?

I seems that the update was rolled out quite a number of days ago, but very few folks here on the forum indicate they have seen any sign of it.

Okay, I was able to go to the "HTC Update" setting on the phone an manually pull the update today.

The phone performed a firmware update that took about 10 minutes or so over 3G and then rebooted, indicating the update was successfully applied.

Settings > about phone > Software information > the Software Number now reads;

1.14.652.0 710RD

I'm hoping that this not only fixes the resource shortage error that appears when texting, but also some missed phone calls and inability to make outgoing phone call connections when dialing.
